Does Your Dog/ Puppy Growl When Playing?
~*Shell*~ replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is like Zero too - give him a tug toy and he'll growl at you while he's tugging. I know what Zero's growl sounds like and it's nothing like the low, deep growl he used to get when he wanted to get aggressive with something. He also growls out of excitement sometimes (like when we go to Nik's house to visit ahsoka, jedi and fable and there's a whole house full of dogs there) - he would never get aggressive with Ahsoka and yet, he will make this growly noise at her. -
OOOOOOOOO PRETTY!!! Makes my new bag look like crap! I just bought a lowepro computrekker - not particularly stylish but it was a lot more comfortable than the other bags I tried.

I have a brand new car that I don't want Zero's paws touching (or him shedding on) so I use a blanket and a backseat buddy. I got the blanket from coles for like $4 or something but the backseat buddy was expensive! I love it though and he settles a lot better than he used to on our old polyester one!

Zero tends to skid to a halt and then change direction quickly when he's doing zoomies - he'd just tried to stop himself: Zoomies with Ahsoka at the beach (she's a lot faster than him!)

Love the first one of Ivy!

Yes!!! I'm puppy clucky at the moment. Considering in the last few months I've photographed this: This: This: This: This: This: And this: It's a wonder that the cops aren't after me for stealing any of them!!!

My parents have 3 pet friendly investment properties. 1 is a townhouse - they are fine people having pets, the owners of the other townhouses are fine with people having pets but strata says no. The people who live there have 2 cockatiels which were approved by strata. The next is a unit - again, they're fine with pets, as are the owners of the other units but the management of the block says animals aren't allowed to walk on common property so you can have a dog, but you have to carry it. The people who are living there at the moment have a small dog. The third is a house with a nice backyard - the people who live there have a cat, a bird and have just asked if they can have a dog. My parents have said yes. The house is always immaculate and she takes great care of her cat and bird so they were happy to let her. I know I'm going to have problems when I move though! I'll have to make Z up a resume!

That's really sad that they'll believe a muzzle but won't believe the dog's owner. I have never put a muzzle on Zero. I had a vet ask me once if he could muzzle Z (no aggression or hesitation displayed from Z but the vet was unsure of big dogs ) - he went off his rocker at just the sight of the muzzle. He has never seen one since and I refuse to ever put one on him (i suspect he was probably beaten while wearing one - he was quite badly abused before i got him). That being said, Zero was once so dog aggressive that he tried to attack his own shadow when coming around a corner and having the sun hit him a certain way (he used to slink around corners just in case). He was always on the lookout for them and would have happily killed another dog without hesitation - and yet, he didn't wear a muzzle.

You have my sympathy Kavik - that was the story of my life a couple of years ago! I used to walk Z and people would always let their dogs come running up to him. It's horrible because you want your dog to have a lot of good experiences (ie, dog walking past without getting too close so your dog won't react) so you can set your dog up to be rewarded for being really good but people are just idiots, even when you tell them! Poodlefan - i used to ask for a sit so i could get Zero's attention. He was much more likely to give it to me in a sit than if he was moving. Also, being brought straight towards another dog can set them off. Zero making eye contact with another dog used to really get him going (he went through that phase!) so a sit was a good option for him. I didn't want Zero to greet the other dog because he would react with any kind of greeting. I just wanted him to get used to having other dogs around him without him having to greet them. Once he'd got that down, I started introducing him to other dogs properly but there was a long time there where he needed to be around them but not "with" them.

Just Some Of The Things My Dogs Eat, Aside From Meat

Zero's the same!! He's true to his breed though - he loves ice... and sorbet -
Some of my best photos of Zero have been taken in my backyard! I aim for places that make Zero comfortable and happy - that being said, I'm looking for some good locations myself. That's the best part about 52weeks - you have the time to take a lot of photos in a lot of different places!!

She's been coming up on my facebook mini feed and just posted a comment so I'd say she's fine! She's watching an awesome movie at the moment judging by her status!

*jealous* I would kill for a 5D Mark II - alas, at the moment it's a little out of my price range. Time for some hard core saving!

Zero is a perfect gentleman 99.99% of the time but on that odd occasion where he forgets himself, he will catch you with one of his teeth. It's almost always straight on the nail, or on your joint so either way it kills!!!!
-
What Huski said! I use devon roll (in perth they call it polony, so i don't know what they call it in other places) and I cut to size. I also taught Z to catch - if he's really really excited, he will sometimes catch my fingers so it's better to teach him to catch it rather than take it from me.

They're both just beautiful! I love the first shot - gorgeous!

What Breeds Wouldn't You Recommend For A First Time Onwer?
~*Shell*~ replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lol - the 2 breeds I've owned are on the OP's list. My Danika () as a puppy - my family's first dog: And Zero now - my first dog on my own: Danika was a great first dog - obedient, easy to train, very gentle. She loved to go for a run but would turn on a dime and come back to you if called. Fortunately, she had brakes, unlike Zero who often barrels into my legs when recalling! I think it depends on the person as to what breeds don't suit them as a frist time dog owner. A sibe has been perfect for me, and my dobe was too when I had her. I don't think something like a british bulldog would have suited me though, even if it might be the perfect first dog for someone else. -
Aww thats beautiful Shell Rusty was beautiful! He knew that after a bath he would get a treat but he wouldn't react until you said the word biscuit - then he would run into the kitchen to the cupboard where his treats were kept and sit there with his tail wagging. He was also obsessed with his kong and we would often put it under the bathroom stool - he would walk up, knock the stool over and then go and show everyone that he had "found" his kong. Such a little character! My aunt and uncle haven't even thought about getting another dog since he went to the bridge. They're working on my dad at the moment though trying to get him to get one

My aunt and uncle used to have an australian terrier named Rusty who loooooooved his boogie board. He would nudge it and bark at it till they put it in the pool for him, then he would sit on it and float around for a while before going for a swim and then get back on it. He could do that for hours! He was such a gorgeous dog - even up until the time he died (at 16), he would ask for his boogie board to be put in the pool. In the end they had to hold it steady so he could get on it and watch him like a hawk while he was in the pool but they said it was worth it to see him happy.

Is this what you mean? It was my first time shooting at the aquarium and it was a lot tougher than i thought - I feel like my equipment and inexperience really let me down. The 450D is really bad at anything over 400ISO and it was really limiting!
-
Zero has food allergies and intolerances - wheat, preservatives, colourings and artificial flavourings. He also has hip dysplacia, but that's from being obese, physically abused and not conditioned properly (plus i suspect partly from malnutrition). Who knows what he could have been if I'd had him from the time he was a puppy! I would like to think he could be doing flyball and agility.

I went in, saw this face: And was told that he had 4 hours to live. Decision made.

Nik and I are coming down from sydney. Bit of a road trip
