If it was me, I would be going the 50mm but it depends on how much space you have as Kirislin said!

If you're in Sydney GoldenWei, you can go out to them and have a look! I'll be heading down that way in a couple of days to grab a present for my cat.

I have 2x16gb cards for my 5D mark II - i would just start with 1 though. I only have 2 because i shoot video for work.

If you are really wanting to trim them back and are worried about it, you can take the tiniest bit off the tip everyday. The quick will shrink back as you cut the nail until a certain point (usually smaller than you would want to cut it). If the dog has one white nail and the rest are black, you can estimate how much you can take off the nail before hitting the quick with that one. As GSD fan said, if you nip the quick and the nail bleeds (and it will bleed a lot if you hit it), you can rub some soap on it - or you can use corn flour to get the blood to clot. Just throw it on to the nail until it stops bleeding. Keep in mind though that if the dog licks at it, it may start bleeding again.

Aperture - taken at f/22 (the minimum aperture for the 50mm 1.4) with a 30 second exposure. Taken at the Walcha 3 day show on friday night. High - the sky in walcha last weekend (same night - just before the other one). It really was this colour. Absolutely beautiful, even though it was wet as anything! Tea Cup - Zac is my god mother's cavalier. He's little compared to his "sister" so people often ask her if he's a "teacup". Don't know about anyone else but he doesn't look like a mug to me! -
Shall I start a 52 weeks for dogs 2011 thread in a couple of weeks? I have all over Zero's photos but I haven't put them up! So lazy! Might have to do a mass upload!
-
Zero doesn't have a desexing tattoo but Mow (my cat) does. I would prefer to have the tattoo (there have been quite a few entire dogs stolen in a suburb a few kms away) but don't mind that Zero doesn't - it's pretty obvious he has nothing!
-
Zero plays with his kong, kong wubba, squeaky ball, squeaky newspaper and frisbee in the pool - he will often go and dump his other (fluffy) toys in there too so while I don't purposely throw his soft toys in there, they usually end up in there anyway!
-
There is one at the Rouse Hill (sydney) RSPCA too that I have heard is a sweetheart. Unfortunately there are just so many of them in pounds at this time of the year though no fault of their own.

Please Buckle Up Your Best Friend

In the car I use a ruffwear harness (that is actually the palisades backpack but without the packs on it) - I have not found anything as well made as it and Zero has been through 4 harnesses so far. He has had this one for nearly 2 years and it still looks fantastic. The straps are padded and for the first time, Zero is happy to sleep in the car with it on so it's comfortable for him. His has backpacks that attach to it but I don't use them anymore: I will be buying this harness for any future dogs I have too. -
Tell Me Where You Buy Your Gear. Time For A New Toy :)

I have the non-IS version and I'm happy. Haven't had a problem with it yet but I have very steady hands and can carry it around all day without a problem. Next on my list is the 24-70 2.8L but it's a long way off. Too poor for anything close to that! -
Don't worry - you'll get there. Auto is your friend for a couple of weeks while you learn what all the numbers mean! You'll pick it up, especially with that book! it's awesome.

Here's Zero's; ETA: Oh and this one! Crazy dog!!

Rehabilitating An Aggressive Dog
~*Shell*~ replied to Agility Dogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There are not enough laughs in the world to cover the hilarity of this comment. I don't know who you know who can cure aggression in 10 minutes but I for one would like to know so I can see how they do it. I had mutiple behaviourists tell me to have my dog put down over the space of 18 months because his dog aggression couldn't ever be cured so anyone who can do it in 10 minutes deserves some kind of prize. Agility dogs: It took me about 8 weeks from the time i saw a behaviourist whose methods worked for us but we're the exception in that Zero turned around pretty quickly - for many it's about life long management, not a cure. Tell the owners of the dog to prepare themselves to overhaul everything they have done with the dog in the past and not expect that their dog will ever want or be able to play with another dog. I went in just hoping I could take Zero on a walk without him trying to kill something and he's so much better than that but I also have seen some really awesome trainers who went in expecting that their dog would be perfect around other dogs but who probably never will be. If they find that their dog isn't getting better, tell them to try another method! -

My pride and Joy Zero -
That's because it can't have two points it's focusing on. The lens can only focus on one. Close down your aperture. Instead of setting it at something like f/2, set it at f/4 or f/5 and see if that helps. The depth of field will be wider and you should get more in focus.
-
The red dot will focus in the area between the two dogs. Go into your autofocus and scroll until you have all 9 points focusing or if your dogs are sitting next to eachother, set it to either the left or right focus point. If the dogs are next to eachother, both should be in focus. Does that make sense?

Christmas Time.....on The Hunt For A Lens

I have bought from both DWI and Digitalrev - was pretty happy with both. It did take digitalrev a week to send my items though - i got them express through DHL so I thought them not having them sent to me for a week was a bit strange. I did buy a lot of things though so maybe they were waiting on something that wasn't in stock? DWI was good too - the items arrived without a problem though their postage was a whole lot more than a lot of other places. -
What've You Done With Your Photography This Year?
~*Shell*~ replied to iltby's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I wish I'd had more time to play with my camera this year! I think I've learnt so much and I can't wait to learn more! Some things I'm proud of are: A shoot with Lovemesideways' Riddick and Rover: working with very low light photography: Shooting with the gorgeous Trinity: Working with kids and not getting crappy shots: Not to mention I now have a DOP credit to my name on a shoot I did for LifeStyle YOU on my 5D mark II (video) and my shots have been used for external print ad campaigns. The new promo should start going to air over the weekend so I'm excited to see it on TV! I count it as part of my photography because all of my knowledge came from my photography. -
"professional" Dog Walkers Walking Muzzled Dogs...
~*Shell*~ replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
My standard response to any dog approaching mine is to tell the owner of that dog that Zero's in training and that I would prefer them not to approach whether they're friendly or not. Don't get me wrong, I still get a**holes who complain about it but generally people are pretty good. I get a lot of people ask me what he's training for so I just tell them he's a therapy dog (he is a delta therapy dog) and that I want him to not react at all to another dog which is very very difficult if that other dog is jumping all over him. Some people just need to learn some manners - any dog walker who lets the dogs run up to a person holding a child is just asking for it. I would absolutely let them have it. What would happen if that person didn't understand dogs and thought they were attacking or something - their first reaction could be to kick at one of them (which is what happened at an on leash park around the corner from me when someone let their dogs off leash). Both the child and the dog could get seriously hurt. -
We tend to go overboard with the flea bombs but we make a day of it - set them all off, leave the house for 4 hours, open the house back up (open every window), leave it like that for 2 hours, then someone comes home and vacuums everything. All the animals get flea treated in the days leading up to it (with capstar) and in 5 years, we've only had fleas twice - once when we babysat a friend's cat, even though she wasn't supposed to have fleas, she was crawling with them, and once when we babysat my brother's cats - he had just moved and his new house had a flea infestation. He flea bombed his house but forgot to treat the cats so we treated them and then bombed our house the next weekend. ETA: I should add that when I say everything gets vacuumed, I mean everything - chairs, rugs, matresses, door mats, everything! Bedding is also washed in a super hot cycle, rugs are picked up and put on the table so the bomb can get to both the rug and the carpet the rug was on, and we move the couches out into the kitchen (which has no carpet) so that the bombs can get to the space under the couches.

I have a Nissan X-trail. It has the biggest boot of the "small" 4WDs and i love it. Lots of other DOLers have this car too. I test drove the Rav4 (was no bigger inside than my old corolla hatchback), the forester (which was better than the rav4 but didn't have as much space and i didn't think it handled as well), the captiva (which my uncle told me not to buy and he works for holden!) and the honda CRV (again, didn't handle as well and wasn't as big) as well.
