omg, can't believe a couple of us has this problem. The funny thing is with the train, he is only fearful when going out for a walk, when coming home, we walk the same route and he is happy as larry. He is on alert but tail is wagging and happily walking. Even when a train approaches doesn't startle him. Train station is quite far from the walk, its not only at the train station he stops, subsequent to leaving the area and when we are far away from the station, as long as we are walking further out from our home, he will stop and refuse to walk. Coming home the other way he is fine. When he sits and refuses to walk, a small nudge on the bum will startle him also. I tried using a spray bottle but he doesn't care about getting wet. Tried treats, he will walk to the treat and then stop walking again. His beloved squeakers - he won't even budge.

According to this podcast https://www.spreaker.com/user/vettalkradio/vettalk-radio-sat-13th-february-2016?utm_source=widget&utm_medium=widget, kangaroo is one of the meats that is prone to allergies. From reading on the internet, fish seems to be the best protein for itchy dogs. I've also added flax seed oil to my dog's diet, I'm not sure whether it has helped but coats certainly improved. I've also tried Calendula Tea rinse, works temporarily for my dogs but they start itching again. My vet suggested giving him antihistamine, works on one dog but not as effective on the other. My older dog used to scratch like hell and lick his paws, as he grew older, he seems to have gotten better. I'm not sure whether his immune system has developed over time or whether its the diet I put him on (taste of the wild salmon kibble), i actually think its more the former because he was still itching for a while after I switched him only the salmon kibble.

Doesn't seem to be a problem inside the house or in the backyard. Runs around no problems, no limping no trouble getting up. Also doesn't explain why he doesn't stop on the way home, only on the way out. At times i notice his tail between his legs when we are passing the train station - I know he is afraid of loud noises so he doesn't like the train passing by. Places away from the train station where he stops, his tail isn't between his legs but I see him looking around to assess the surroundings. But he hasn't had a bad experience in those places.

I have a problem with my 4yo boy. He never used to have an issue going for a walk. Since last year, he stops very often and refuses to move. He is excited when I get the lead out so I think he does not fear going out, but once we are out, he refuses to walk. Most often stops at the same spots. Doesn't make a difference going the same route or taking a different one. He hasn't had any bad experiences at those spots. When we turn around towards home direction, he doesn't have any issues walking back. How can I encourage him to walk? He is food oriented however, even with treats, it doesn't work during the walks. He is a mini schnauzer

I think so. I bath two dogs - one after another. The other one seems fine. I'm not sure whether it is the shampoo. Because now that I think about it, where there is dandruff on the back of the ear (particularly towards the tip), i don't put shampoo on at all. Its just water.

My boy has dandruff. I notice it particularly immediately after a bath and it can last 1-3 days which by that time has all fallen off until the next bath. I'm using Dr Oz's shampoo and put loads of aloveen conditioner on him afterwards. It seems to mitigate the issue but still notice small flakes especially at the tip of the ears and towards the backside of the body. He is also on flax seed oil every second day. Any recommendations? The shampoo is all natural ingredients, could it still be too strong?

Has anyone had issues getting plaque off overseas recently? I placed 2 orders recently and both have tracking on them, both have returned to sender as the status. When i contacted the supplier to see whether they got any idea what wrong with the transit and they said one is coming up as damaged on transit.

Paw Nutriderm Shampoo Or Dr Zoo's Shampoo
giraffez replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
okay thanks. He doesn't seem to be losing fur or nipping at the area, just times of the day where he is constantly scratching the belly area. He isn't scratching after a bath so I'm not too concern about aloveen but when i was reading some of the posts, some people indicated that aloveen is not the gentlest shampoo around so was hoping to put him on something else. He used to have dandruff after a shower but I now use conditioner on him and seems to have resolved that issue. Also just started putting him on flax seed oil. -

Thanks all. Have tried calendula tea also, little relief. Currently using aloveen but have read that it can make dog itchy so wanting to try something else. -
Has anyone tried Paw Nutriderm shampoo or Dr zoo's itchy shampoo http://www.pawbyblackmores.com/products/nutriderm-replenishing-shampoo http://drzoo.com.au/pet-skin-products/itchy-dog-shampoo.html/ Currently using aloveen but dog still has those sensitive itchy spots that send the hind legs scratching when you touch it.

sorry hard to describe. This isn't my dog but it shows the exact area http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii41/nadinetreadway/JoeyBelly1.jpg Its easily accessible to scratching with the hind legs No he doesn't wear a harness. Only when walking The area doesn't seem yeasty... the speck of dirt is dirt colour and not the yeast colour either. It doesn't smell either.

Thanks all There is grass in the yard, there isn't any ivy and no trees that litter pollen at our place. Skin scraping - is this an allergy test? Can it identify what they are allergic to if its out in the lawn? I've been to the vet for allergy problems before and they haven't suggested any tests..... it was antihistamine and "potential" diet allergy. Which reminds me, my cousin's vet in the States recommended a dose of clarityne for her dog's allergies. This is human medication but was prescribed by the vet and dispensed at a normal pharmacy. Has anyone given this to their dogs before for allergies?

ear cleaner as is epi otic? What do I do with it, just apply it on the skin?
-
i've tried maleseb and calendula tea already with little results. The tea gives a bit of relief but comes back itchy the next day. He is on a grainfree fish diet. Isn't fish the most unlikely to develop an allergic reaction? He has been on it for over a year and only just started scratching. I don't want to start him on antibiotics unless its the last resort. He doesn't scratch on the the belly button but the area in his underbelly just behind his legs
-
Thank you all. He has been licking at it because the spot is all brown from the saliva. Are there any anti fungal cream I can get at the chemist that can be applied on him? How about cortizone or something like that... I think it was some anti fungal for the human feet.
-
Yep, its just like the photo. How do you treat it?
-
Thanks. Do you use it in its raw form?
-
he is on monthly flea treatment. How do i wash it off, its hard to come off. It only appears after lots of scratching.
-
My dog has been scratching constantly under the belly. I noticed there are small specks of dirt-like stuff that appear after a long scratch. This doesn't wash off easily with a bath. Are these flea eggs?

What Shampoo Do You Use And Why?
giraffez replied to skyehaven's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Erny, I've tried calendula tea. It provides some relief but only tempoary, the next day or an hour or so later, he starts scratching again. I'm really thinking of switching shampoo. Using Aloveen at the moment. When to check out Fido and there are so many different formulas. Not sure which to get for an itchy dog with dry skin. Can anyone help please? Thanks -
Omega 3 Supplement Recommendations
giraffez replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming

Omega 3 Supplement Recommendations
giraffez replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ok thank you. I don't know whether its grass allergy because it only happens during the spring/summer. I remember reading a thread around feeding omega 3 without vitamin E. An owner was saying it caused his dog serious problems and had to be admitted to emergency. I can't find the thread any more to re read it. Anyone know which one I"m referring to.
