My pup has been much much better on the grooming table after 2 weeks. However, I still can't get him to stand still. Alot of the times when he gets nervous, he climbs onto my shoulders. How can I get him to stop doing that? Sometimes it helps when i need to brush his underside but when he is on my shoulder, i can't trim the face. He also despises the clipper on his ears. He tries to bit the clipper everytime i try to trim the ears. Is there something i can do to stop that?

My pup came with Supercoat from the breeder. Even at that stage he was farting an awful lot and poo'ed a lot too! I changed it to cal natural gradually.... he didn't have any problem adjusting... i completely switched it over by the fourth day.

I got a sample pack of artemis which i did 1/2 and 1/2 with his current dog food for a day and he seem to do fine. He is not having mince at the moment... but sometimes i mix in some meat we use in creating soup broths.
-
I'm running out of the old one, could i mix it with mince instead? Or maybe with just brown rice since artemis is high in protein already
-
I hope so. But artemis there is no grains. Would he get an upset stomache when he starts?

Chicken Treats From China Beware
giraffez replied to Lizzy06's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
how about the Love 'em liver treats? I think they are 100% australian own and 100% pork and beef -
no milk. Just California Natural. Will be switch him onto Artemis soon.

My puppy farts an awful lot. Is this an indication that his dog food is not suitable? His poo is nice... not runny though.
-
i have to try that too! Its interesting as I was thinking the same thing with teh amount of carrot intake. If humans have too much carrot, they can getting poisoning such that the skin turns a yellowish colour. I guess this poisoning can also happen in dogs as well .....

can dogs be allergic to peanut butter? kids are often allergic to peanuts when they are young... is it the same for dogs?
-
my pup understands the sit command nicely and does it unconditionally... but all the other commands eg drop, shake hands etc... he only does it when there is a treat. What wrong signal am I giving him?
-
I brought the same thing but I read the package which had a very small fine print ( i thought it was irresponsible of them to put it that small as the packaging specifically states its for puppies ) that says not suitable for puppies less than 4 months old. I didnt end up giving it to him.... brought him a lamb neck bone instead and he loves it. Chews on it for an hour without getting tired... i had to grab it off him when he wasn't looking And yes i was thinking the same thing. Giving him something to chew is better than him chewing us! :)

i thought i'll share with you Teddys bath experience. I was planning to hold off the bathing till next week as it has been raining all weekend and next week too! But Teddy couldn't help jumping into a muddy hole after it had stopped raining Anyways, i tried to wipe the dirt off his beard and feet but that was too much. I decided to pop him in the sink and just wash the feet and beard. Once that was done i though what the heck, I was wet already, he was too, so i ended up bathing him completely He was shivering quite a lot but i used warm water... i think he was nervous rather than cold because after i had finished he stopped the shivering. He hated the hair dryer - plainly said, he freaked out and i have scratch marks all over me But towards the end, i managed to settle him and he was nervous but not as much as before and was more controllable. Dried him up and gave him a big treat. He then decided he wanted to go out and play.... i thought he had other agendas on his mind (ie the muddy hole). I let him got out to relieve himself and straight after that he ran for the hole again Luckily i caught him in time and brought him into the house! After all that, I now have a clean dog and a hole in the backyard to patch up.... Why won't it stop raining?!

very cute! Thats great news! Looks like you and I shared the same experience. Hope your pup turns out as great as mine did! (except for the biting... no biting ....)

Not really- those things are a compound of milkpowder and all sorts of stuff- and chunks can break off or be chewed off. These may be swallowed....and get stuck. If you have a look on DOl.. heaps of people feed chicken every day!! Use wings (whole) and carcasses(frames) .... legs are the weight bearing bones, and I guess they 'could' splinter.. but RAW chicken bones are soft and digestible Roo tail lengths are terrific, if you can get them! Oh - edited to add THIS , if you're interested Thanks!
-
because it splinters. I read many posts in this forum that says the same thing. maybe they were referring to cooked ones... i can't remember. Is there a kind of bone that is more suitable for puppies? I asked in another thread (or maybe it was this one) whether the knotted bones are any good. I was tempted to get one today... i think that were made from pig hinds.. are those okay as well? I also notice the pedigree dental bones for puppies has a very small fine print that says not to be given to puppies under 4 months old. Wonder why this is the case.. if pups can have raw bones, surely dental bones are okay as well are they not?
-
I'm very new to this raw bones thing so please help me here. What exactly do I ask for a the butchers? Raw lamb's neck? How big do I want to cut it -> small so my pup can chew but big enough so it doesn't choke? Besides lamb's neck what else can I get?
-
shad, have you visited your pup again yet? I'm eager to see how it turns out. Seems like i went through the same thing not very long ago All the best! Keep us posted.
-
I don't think its smoked... its just dried and plus its not a small piece... its like 15 cms long so i don't think he can swallow I have been told to avoid chicken so have not given him any. He is biting a lot so wanted to give him something hard to chew.
-
The one i brought is raw but dried out. Is that ok? is it a smoked bone? not sure, i didn't ask but the store told me it was dried. how do i tell? This is what it looks like. Sorry, the flash went crazy.

I brought a lamb neck today. Haven't given it to the pup yet. Is it okay to give him bones to chew at 10 weeks?
-
Yeah the breeder suggested so. Teddy is 10 weeks coming to 11. Does he still need his food moisten. Maybe I should gradually reduce the amount of water.
-
Nylabones are not ment to be eaten. i thought it was suppose to encourage chewing and ultimately eaten. Maybe its not nylon bones i'm referring to. I'm talking about those hard whitish yellow knotted bones.
-
How about nylon bones, are they beneficial or full of chemicals?
