My little boy lost two teeth yesterday (there were two holes in place). This morning when i checked again, half of both tooth has already grown back!!!! Is it really that fast???? I wonder how many other tooth he lost that i missed!
-
if he has loose teeth, would chewing the bones break off the tooth that is loose and potentially cause him to swallow it?
-
is it okay to give bones to a puppy who it beginning to lose teeth?. My pup should be teething in the next two weeks. Also, are bones from racks of beef ribs okay to chew (raw)? Or are they easy to splinter?

how do dogs get along at the dog classes esp on the first day. Do i still have to be cautious once he has had his 3rd vaccination? I'm a bit nervous because it will be the first time my pup has played with another dog. They other day he saw another dog and both started barking at each other.

This thread has got me wondering. my pup had his second vaccination 2 weeks ago and due for his 3rd in another 2 weeks. Is it common practice for vets to only charge the c5 without the consultation fee? Initially i had the impression that the 2 came hand in hand (ie consult fee+ vacination) but reading the previous posts suggests that this is possible. Since the pup was checked 4 weeks ago (when he goes for his 3rd vaccine), do I really need the vet to examine again? that will set me back another $60+. Hoping to get some understanding on this. If it isn't common, then i won't bother asking my vet whether this can be done.

How soon can a puppy go to obidience school. I'm planning on enrolling my pup soon (waiting for 2 wks after the 3rd vaccination) - is this the right time? Do the schools usually take puppies anytime or is it like school terms where everyone starts on the same day? If it is the first one, how is it possible to teach the same command to a dog that has been there for weeks compared to one for the first time ... wouldn't there be a gap here?
-
How did you do that??? I got a feeling my pup will just ignore! i've been trying to teach it to drop with fetch but it doesnt work without food!
-
All vets around my area charge around $95 for the consult and C5 vaccination. I asked like 4. Isn't it rare to go to the vet for a vacination w/o a consult?

Hi, I just want to get some suggestions as how i should handle this. Sometimes my pup quickly snatches something we accidently drop on the ground and run as fast as he could away. if is it a sock or a piece of clothing then there is no harm done to the dog but I am concerned that if he ever picks up anything that he shouldn't, it could hurt him (eg. a small object that he could swallow). The more i chase him, the more he runs away. How can i make him stop. He knows stay but won't listen to the command when he is on the run. Thanks

I tried this with teddy today but his hair was too short so the peg wouldn't stay on. I then used an elastic band and it works well! so those with short hair could give this a try. He has not quite got the shy concept, when i take the elastic band off, he thinks i just want him to touch my hand so his paws doesn't reach his muzzle... did you have the same problem TerraNik when you first started with ahsoka?
-
Yes yes yes. Teddy did the same thing at first. Actually he didn't run away but he backed away. I think it was because everything he missed, i tried to grab the food that fell on the floor. I think he was a bit nervous i was doing that. But when he got the hang of things, he no longer did it. I started with food rather than toy.... but it was his toy that he learnt how to catch

hahahahhah thats sooooo cute (and very very funny!!!) Thanks i am going to try with Teddy tomorow. I don't think i will have as much luck as ahsoka... teddy is still pretty hyper during commands

I don't know that roo tails will last long with Dante and they can be expensive. I bought some Kangaroo Jerky (the meat which is cut in strips and dried) yesterday - it was quite expensive and even with my little dogs, it didn't last long. Yes. Ask the butcher to show them to you and they look like the classic cartoon bone with a big knob on either end and the straight bit in the middle. I'll see if I can find a picture. Roo tails are a great teeth cleaner and are not expensive at all. Knuckle bones/marrow bones can do more harm than good, many dogs break their teeth on them. Can roo tails be purchased at the butchers? and do they have a lot of meat on them? I am looking for some bones that does not have much meat on them but is safe to chew and consume.

Thanks He has no problem using the tempoary doggy door. He goes in an out as he pleases with no issues. He just doesn't want to go very far to the grass area if there is no one with him. silly thing. Yep, i'll try locking him out for a while and see how that works. Trouble is, if we lock him, we not sure whether he actually goes to the toilet (we can't see the grass area from inside the house)

14 weeks .. getting heaving by the second!
-
thanks for clarifying that. I had to cut it in half because the bone is massive! about as long as my pup! He loves it though
-
hahah tell me about it. I take the umbrella out (massive one) and shelter him with it and he just looks at me as though he is shy that he won't do his business while i am looking hahahah I end up wet and he is dry! heheh He doesn't like the wet floor either. As soon as he sees a wet patch, he will sit there and won't move. Thats why I don't understand why he can jump into a muddy patch or likes digging up dirt after the rain
-
Yep thats what we do, we take him out and praise...no muck around until he is done. But without our presence, he would only sit next to the door, he won't go to the grass area. By the way, i forgot to mention we created a tempoary doggy door for him until we figure how to make a solid one so he has an opening to go in and out as he pleases..... He should be using the doggy opening when he needs to go but most of the time we have to step outside before he will go out to do his business

i gave my dog a beef knuckle bone that i got the butcher to slice in half. I noticed inside the bone, there is some content - is this the bone marrow and is it safe to give it to the dog to lick out? Is this high in fat.... it must be high in calcium that stuff.

My pup has been doing well on toilet training outside however, the rain these couple of weeks have encouraged him to start peeing inside the house. Its wet outside and he doesn't want to go out to pee and poo. Its difficult as since we got him, its been pretty much raining everyday. On sunny days (which has only happened like 3 times), he is fine. Also, he won't go outside unless someone accompanies him. Sometimes he will go out and play himself but most of the time, he won't go more than 10 steps outside before rushing back in. How can we encourage him to do it on his own?

is there any brands you could recommend, or ones that should be avoided

This is what the vet said. I just couldn't remember the right words.... But looks like its a proven thing that plucking is the option for hairy ear dogs. I don't want to have to sedate the dog to get it plucked when it comes to ear infection. If there is smell coming from the ear, is that a sign of ear infection. And if so, is that when i need to use the epi otic? My pup is fine for now but I can see it happening in the future.
-
Is the toothbrush the one you slip on your finger as effective as the one with the handle (like a human toothbrush)
-
Becks. I love your new icon! So am i right to say if i can see it, i can pluck it.... as a measure of not going too far inside? I can see hair deep inside the hole and not sure whether I should pull it out. Is it better and less irritable for the dog if i do a bit at a time over several days or simply all in one go and don't need to touch it again for a while?

I wouldn't. The way it works is that the pup's maternal antibodies have probably worn off enough by 12 weeks for the vaccine to work - so pup will probably become solidly immune by 13 or so weeks (i.e, a week or so after he is vaccinated at 12 weeks). However, some pups don't lose their maternal antibodies quickly enough for the 12 week vaccine to work. Those pups will not become immune until a week or two after they get their final vaccine. So for some period between 12 weeks and whenever they get their final vaccine, those pups are still at risk of catching parvo etc. We can't tell if the 12 week vaccine has worked in your particular pup or not, so it's just safer to assume that he's still at risk until after his final vaccination. Get pup out of the house by all means, socialise him, but just be careful where you take him and which dogs you let him associate with until he's had his final vaccination. You could call and ask your vet too, since I'm unfamiliar with the exact vaccine brand & protocol you're using, but that's my understanding of how it normally works. There are also lots of trainers on this board who can give you advice about socialising safely, if you wanted to start a topic on that. Hope that makes sense. Thanks. would a walk up and down my street be ok?.... not planning to introduce him to another dog just yet until fully vaccinated.
