  1. My pup did this when he first started. He grew out of it now that he is used to being on a leash. In the beginning, i let him play with the leash at home so he is used to sniffing and smelling it, then he just grew out of it.
  2. How do you teach a dog to bark and shoosh on command? My dog is not a natural barker and even when he get frustrated.
  3. Thanks Tassie and Dyzney for the confirmation that I'm doing the right thing. I was thinking of getting a second pup when Teddy is a bit older to keep him company. Its always good to have a companion when we are not home and to keep him out of mischieve. But I'm worried that he may not tolerate or welcome a new one - may cause him stress rather than relief. Has anyone been in the same situation with their dog before?
  4. Its been nearly two months since starting this thread. Teddy is now accepting other dogs, he no longer growls at them and are acceptable to them even at close distances. Improved very much since raising this thread! However he will go and sniff them but he doesn't want to play. If the other dog makes a sudden movement and want to play with him, he gets a bit nervous and backs away. Anyway i can encourage a healthy play behaviour?
  5. huski,I'm sure you checked it but just be careful of the salt content. The other day i brought packet from a korean supermarket to put in miso soup and they are generally very high in salt. Not sure whether it is the same as the ones you brought.
  6. Thanks for sharing that, sounds familiar with my little boy as well. I will keep going to obedience to expose him to other dogs as I don't know too many dog owners so he only meets his own kind once a week. Its also good that he learns some good puppy manners anyhow!
  7. Anyone got a good recommendation for a dog trick book?
  8. Thanks will do. I hope that gradually he will be able to overcome the growling. I'm try to stay away from dogs bigger than him (for now). Although the bigger dog may be a sweetie, my pup may feel threaten becuase of the size. Once he is ok dogs his own size, then i will try with the bigger ones.
  9. Just an update on this, I took my mini for his 3rd obiedience class and he is doing a lot better. No more growling... today actually started pouncing around with another dog. He is not bothered by other dogs being around him - i noticed he only gets distracted if they make a very quick movement. I'm very relieved that he is getting along with other but will be watching closely on his behaviour. A great improvement since his first week
  10. Thanks all for the replies. Other dogs in the training class seem to get on so well together and some were in the same situation (ie not exposed to other dogs before), so was very concerned when my mini (which is very sociable breed) became aggressive. He had plenty of playmates when he was at the breeders so didn't think it would affect him that much without the company of other dogs for a few weeks.
  11. How can I socialise my puppy with other dogs? I've started taking my pup to doggy school and does not socialise well with other dogs. He is not used to seeing ohter dogs around.... so when he saw them for the first time, he growled. I mainly kept him inside the house before his vaccination took effect. He is ok at seeing other people and he can be such a sweetheart but with other dogs, he gets so distracted. How can i safely sociallise him with other dogs. I don't know of too many other dog owners.... will he snap out of the aggression eventually? He is 5.5 months old
  12. I'm also curious as I haven't been able to get some from my butcher either, is it like this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brisketphoto.jpg, if so, aren't these ribs? Or are they like http://www.recipetips.com/kitchen/images/r...cts/ribtips.jpg? And are they mostly bones and high in fat?
  13. Has anyone been able to teach the dog to catch the food on his muzzle. It starts off by putting food on the dog's muzzle, then he sits very still until you give it the command. Then it will toss open its muzzle and quickly grab the food that was sitting there before. My dog won't stay still
  14. he is much better now. He only does it on command if he is sleepy. He doesn't like to lay down and only lays down when he is sleepy . He is a lot better at it.
  15. you could pinch its cheeks
  16. hahah yeah one flew out as i was playing with him. Its so microscopic. Would giving bones during this time make the teeth crooked?
  17. hahah in a very unnatural kind of way.... I really need to stop him to keep doing this
  18. The vet recommended I use Aloveen shampoo & conditioner on Tilba as she's been scratching ever since I've had her. So far I've used it twice. I want to know how much do you use? It says to use sparingly so I've dabbed it on britches, chest, tail & a little on the back. It's not enough to go all over, otherwise I'd use the whole tube. I've rinsed out lightly. Does it affect the skin if left in? or does it really help? Did that resolve the scratching?
  19. Stupid question but who is Leo? Is it just a brand?
  20. another 2 dropped out today. He probably swallowed one and the other flew out as I was playing with him. The tooth is probably going to grow back by tomorrow morning! He is still biting me - i was hoping for a couple of days of non biting with the puppy teeth out... fat chance that will happen since it grows like a beanstalk. I yell ouch and turn away (he doesn't care). Do they eventually grow out of it naturally?
  21. hahahah i noticed a smell in my pups mouth today. The vet did warn me that it could become smelly while it loses the teeth. Usually but what age would they have all lost the baby teeth? There are some teeth in his mouth i don't see it falling out anytime soon... its so intact!
  22. I was wondering how many people use conditioners on their dog. I never understood the use of conditioners on dog, my dog is short hair and has not had tangled up hair (as yet). Is it suppose to make the coat better? Is it suppose to help itchy/sensitive skin. I'm using aloveen shampoo at the moment and thinking whether I should add on a conditioner. I noticed the aloveen conditioner does not need rinsing, is alooven conditioner any good?
  23. are lamb too rich for a pup? i'm interested in feeding it lamb but i had people tell me they are too rich
  24. I heard a while back that you should never cut off the whiskers of your pet. Having a schnauzer, the mole on the dog's side is one of the guides to clip up to and the mole often has a whisker on it. and i also noticed there are several whiskers that are mixed in with the beard.....so hard to avoid not cutting. I'm trying to recall the reasoning behind it and i think it had something to do with balance.... however it applies more in cats than dogs. I don't know whether this is a myth or fact, anyone care to clarify or confirm?
  25. hahaha yep, it'll be there tomorrow! The anticipation is almost like waiting for santa claus! :D I'm really suspicious now which are the adult teeth and which are the puppy now. I could have missed it earlier! Do all of the teeth fall out or just the selected few when they changeover?
