The human quality ones? Can this be used on animals? How do you stop him from licking. Even with an ecollar, they still can get to some places. Doesn't betadine also sting on a wound?
-
Can you see that far into the ear canal to determine there is gunk? I flip his ears inside out and i can't see that far inside.
-
I find that when I use the 30, he is not nearly bald -still has quite some fur on him, i'll post it the next time I clip him. And the 30 doesn't make him look poodle like either.
-
Oh really? Even a little amount of fur has that much of an insulation effect? You learn something new every day
-
Ok thanks for the tip. His ears is back to normal yesterday. and stupid me caused another irritation on his tummy by clipping it too short (as you already know)
-
Yes i know, big mistake. Never again! The itching has settled down today "phew". Thanks all for the suggestions. He is still a bit irritated, just went to the supermarket looking for the Curash powder, never used it before so don't know what it looks like and asked the staff there. They didn't know what it was. Is it like baby powder? And what is apex cream and where could I get it? I've clipped the body using a 10 before but i think its too long. I prefer the 30 clip - i know the schanuzer is usually a 7F or a 10. A 30 clip also means he is cooler in summer (with less fur) and that he needs clipping less often. When winter comes, I use the 10 blade and probably let it grow out a bit to keep him warm. Never again am I using a 30 on the tummy! Is it harmful to give him a shorter clip using the 30 blade - i mean in terms of fur molecules or blood circulation. I notice his body is generally very warm after a clip - with both the 30 and the 10 blade.
-
But what about the licking? How long does the itching stay for?
-
What number blade are you clipping with? If your blade was hot you may have burnt your dog. If you have some Apex cream put it on and it will soothe the clipper burn/ itch. If he is getting itchy after clipping, a soothing bath with Aloveen shampoo will also help. I bathed him with Aloveen before I clipped. I'm not clipping against the hair and I'm pretty sure its not heat from the clipper. I think I clipped it too short - using a 30 blade, read somewhere that thats what to use for the tummy area (can't remember where). So mad at myself for causing the irritation I've clipped with the 30 blade on the tummy before twice and both times were fine so not sure why this time is different. I can't put any cream on him as he keeps licking. I only clipped the tummy today, his coat is still pretty short so I left it alone. For the future, is there anything wrong with using the 30 blade on his actual coat? I think the 10 blade leaves the hair too long.

How can i lessen the itching after clipping my dog. I clipped the tummy section today and he has been licking at it. I know next time I won't clip it so short.

I use the clipper to lightly cut the hair off the inner ears. The hair in the canal, i use scissors to cut any protuding hair (never point it inside the canal). and when he is lying on me, i use my fingers to pluck any hair out. Is this not the correct way?
-
Thanks, i saw that too. His ears aren't red but have been shaking his head alot after I applied Dermotic. Hope this is ok. Only with my fingers. I did give it a clip as far as I can.

Hi, Does anyone know where the medication DERMOTIC for yeast infections in ears can be used a couple months after it is first opened? I still have plenty left over from the last time my pup had ear problems. Ears are starting to smell again and was thinking of applying some. See post #10 http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...t&p=4375256

Its a relatively brand new pair of clippers that was recommended by other dolers on this forum http://shopping.ninemsn.com.au/specs/shear...clippers-16-5cm I've only used it about 4 times so i think it should still be sharp enough. How can i sharpen it just to make sure?

haha I tried that also but he still doesn't like it. I put him on top of the washing machine - he is used to it as this is where he get blowed dried and groomed. I actually tried what the youtube video did. He doesn't mind me touching his nails or putting the clipper on his nails now which is good... but as soon as he senses the clipper cutting down, he will mouth me....
-
Oh my god.... i wish my dog would stay that still!!! Are you using a dremel or the normal clippers? My dog's hair is long so i've stayed away from the dremel incase the hair gets caught.

Hi all Could you please share your tips on cutting your dogs nails. My dog hates it... initially he would just mouth my hand when i touch his nails. Now that he is bigger, he is starting to bite instead. He gets agitated even when i touch his nails with my hands. I tried the touch and treat method but he is not interested in food when it comes to touching his nails. Thanks

yes i tried this using kikopup. I think i'm doing it wrong. he gets the idea of the target and moving his head side to side, but as soon as i remove the targets, he doesn't know what to do. Any suggestions on how i can do this? Make the targets smaller and smaller. What are you using? If you're using a post-it or something, fold it in half or tear some of it off. Keep reducing it down until he's targeting nothing. Actually i've taken the targets away (ie post it notes) and he can do it but he expects the object that the post it note was tagged to to still be there. Once i take him away from the object, he doesn't get it anymore. Actually he runs back to the object and touches it

I'm trying to teach my dog to shake his head from watching a you tube demo of using two targets on the side. So everytime he touches both with his nose, i click. I've taught it for a week now and he gets the concept, however, as soon as i take the target away and move to a new area, he seems to go back to the original place where the target was initially to touch it. I think i'm not doing it correctly, he thinks shake head is simply touching the target and not moving his head, any suggestion?

Thanks, you don't find it an issue with changing blades and possibly have the clippers not aligned properly? It is quite easy to change blades on the Wahl KM2 and they snap on very easily. As long as you place the blade on the tounge correctly and then snap the blade down (you will have to then run the clippers to get the blade on properly) they will line up fine. When I was clipping I had 4 or more blades (of each size I used) and changed them as often as required, sometimes very often on warmer days and used very regular applications of a cool spray. When finished you then need to clean them thoroughly, spray with lubricant and store in a dry clean area ready for next time. I found The KM2 tended to heat up quicker in either speed setting than the older Wahl clippers that I used before them. Thanks all for the clarifications. Rommimum, the instructions on teh wahl clippers says that you have to leave the clipper running before you push the blade down into the lock position, wouldn't this be difficult as the blade as the inside white thing is moving. If the blade is getting hot, is it a sign that the clipper itself is overworking, so changing the actual blade won't really mean anything as the motor is still hot?

I oil them just before clipping. Should I be doing them after instead? Anyone else have a KM2 running on one speed that can give me an idea of how long before the blades heat up so i can compare?
-
Its actually more like 5 - 8mins when it becomes really hot 1) They do warm up quite a bit very quickly.... after a while it does get hot. 2) Yes - 3 drops of oil - i turn it on, place one drop on the right hand side, middle and on the left hand side. Let it run for a bit and then wipe with paper towel any excess. Is this correct? 3) Mostly going in the direction of the hair, minimal going against the hair (probably 10%) I'm using a #10 blade. Is alignment a problem with changing the blade, I've got a spare blade but i didn't want to change it because i am worried i may misalign it. So is it the motor in the clipper i have to worry about overheating or is it the blade itself?
-
10 -15 mins - brand new wahl km2

What do you do when your clipper heats up? Do you have a spare blade to change so you don't have to wait till it cools down before you finish the clip? Is it bad to continuously switch the blades.... would this cause the clipper to not align correctly?
