  1. Some very good advice guys, thanks. I will be experimenting this weekend Nicely put and so true! I never saw it this way but i can relate to it. Good luck saxonpup, hope u dont need to undo the give command like i have to and start again
  2. Thank you both. My dog does this already. He will let it go if i have another in my hand..... but i still need to have something else in my hand before he lets go. How can i work on just having one? And with option 1, running away from the toy isn't an issue, he doesn't really do that... he usually comes to me and rubs the toy all over me wanting me to grab hold of it... and he won't release without a treat
  3. I can't seem to get my dog to do the give command. Actually he does it only when i have food in my hand. Otherwise, he just hangs on to it like he wants to play tug. I can 100% of the time get him to give when i have a treat in my hand but as soon as the food is gone, his selective hearing kicks in. How can i correct this?
  4. hahah my dog does exactly the same thing. He loves his flower pots. I generally put it away as once it shatters i'm worried he will eat the plastic pieces.
  5. But if i focus on the eyes, i lose half the frame below because i'm pointing higher. Should i change my AF dots to a higher dot, at the moment i have it set to the centre dot.
  6. Love the first one especially. Great shot. Is there a command you use for this dog eye look? Did you take that with a f1.8 50mm?
  7. The knuckle bones i give hardly have any meat on them and i strip out all the fat so i don't think its too fatty unless the bones are fatty in nature. I'll try lamb and chicken next time. He used to love the pork bones... but lately i think he has lost some interest in it. I've stayed off beef for a couple of days now as another poster has mentioned it triggers the paw licking, noticed he has licked less (not sure whether its psychological tho ) I also noticed the padding on his paws have become almost plastic like rather than the rough surface it was before... not sure whether this is a good thing
  8. raw pork knuckle bones(not sure if that is the name but its like the ones in flinstones)
  9. Thats weird, I find that when i give him bones, he tends to have runny poo that night and the day after.
  10. wow thats a big improvement. Thanks for letting me know. I'll keep an eye out on the beef thing as well. What causes the anal gland to get blocked? I can't see any runny poo so not sure why his anal glands are blocked.
  11. Yeah i'm not too sure. Recently i noticed he was licking at four at night. its all stained and so is his beard. I checked the paws and nothing seems to be wrong. It may be behavioural because i noticed if i get his attention and get him to play, he seems to forget about the licking - if its itchy, he would keep licking right? Some people on this forum mentioned it may be diet (but nothing drastic has changed, he has been eating the same brand since a puppy - except i swtiched him to weight management version). Another mentioned his anal glands may be blocked. I washed his paws a few times and blew dry it but didn't seem to help much. Trimmed the hair between the gaps as much as i could.
  12. i'm actually quite worried about this. I was thinking of checking the park out first and if there are too many dogs then i'll leave but if there are only a few around then i will try. Are all off leash parks fenced? Is there such a thing as leashed dog park? I guess this is just a normal park hey? I find it hard to socialise in obedience training. The owners don't seem to want to have anything to do with the dog or pull their dog away even if it is just play and the trainers don't encourage it either esp if the dog is a bit nervous around dogs like mine. So i'm not really sure where to go and was thinking a less crowded dog park
  13. thanks all. I defintely after a fenced one. I just want a bit of socialisation for my one. As my dog hasn't been around many dogs, i;m planning to keep him on the leash until i am comfortable. i used to go to bicentenial park but its not a "dog park" per se. Sometimes i don't even see a dog there.
  14. Is there a list of dog parks in Sydney? Does anyone know any dog parks close to Rhodes?
  15. Is it possible to get rid of saliva stains? My dog has been licking his paws so often his beard is no loger white
  16. Thanks for that. I'm going to google the electronic whistle. I can't imagine myself booting another dog. I found this: http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefro...n/product/L7202 You reckon 100db is enough to deter a dog?
  17. Great i think i'll carry one of these however I'm going to get some odd looks carrying one of these on a hot summers day! Maybe i should get a bike horn... http://shop.goeasyonline.com.au/store/air-...-bulb-type.html If i need to boot the dog, where should i aim?
  18. i can't bear to look at those wounds .... I'm not sure i would like it off the lead, i was next to a very busy road and his recall is good in a normal situation but not sure about one like this. I didn't see the dog coming at all as it came from behind.... my boy saw it first and by that time it was too late. A fire extinguisher sounds like a good idea, but i hate the thought of lagging it around with me on walks. Maybe i should keep a squeeky ball with me. And throw it - my concern is, the dog may go and fetch it and come after us to return the ball. Maybe a device that makes a loud noise will be the answer....
  19. Thanks all, next time i wont attempt to pick it up. Any tips for what to do if the other dog is aggresive. I want to avoid any force if possible as it could hurt the dog and aggravate him further. Some of u mentioned u would yell at it... That didn't cross my mind at all as i know if i yell at my one in the spur of the moment, he probably wont think anything of it let alone yelling at another dog. Also, the fact my dog thought it was a threat, is this normal reaction?
  20. I was walking my dog today on a leash in my neighbourhood when all of a sudden a dog a bit smaller than a full grown german shephard starts barging towards him. The dog must have escaped from a car or a home (i'm not sure) but the owners were not far behind running to catch him. The dog was not aggressive (luckily) but my dog saw it was a threat and started growling. The other dog was sniffing my dog and made him very nervous. At this time i was trying to calm my dog and blocking him from the other dog. But if the dog was aggressive, i wouldn't have stood a chance. I think its the carelessness of the owners of the other dog to let the dog run out but being an owner myself, I appreciate with all good intentions, sometimes accidents like this do happen. It wasn't like the owners was walking the dog unleashed - now that I would have been pretty angry about. I felt so helpless in the situation, I was trying to pick up my dog but he was struggling so I couldn't get him, what could i do next time? For about 5 seconds when the dog appeared, I couldn't see the owners so could have been a strayed dog for all I knew. I had a water spray in my hand but decided not to use it as I didn't know how the other dog would react.
  21. Edited In lightroom on the creative - Aged Photo setting JS I think those shots are great ;) Thanks. Is this on the canon, or another camera brand. I have a canon and cannot find the setting Or is this a photoshop setting.... sorry i'm a newbie to this
  22. Nice . How do u achieve the colour of the first two? Is it a special setting? Doesnt look like sepia, is it because u have applied a filter?
  23. Yes i noticed that. At 1.8 if i'm up close, the dof is shallow but if i take it a lot further back, it's almost like a high aperture shot. But iwas intending it for close up shot which are the ones i'm having problems with
  24. Canon 550d Thanks all, i was shooting at 1.8 aperture.... I thought that was the beauty of the lens.....never even consider shooting at a higher aperture. Will give it a go over the weekened
