I feed my dog interceptor, that covers heart worms and intestinal worms - so do i still need the all rounder? http://www.pets.novartis.com.au/dogs/inter...orSpectrum.html

hahah my fault sorry!
-
ok thanks. Is drontal a good brand then? Since i missed worming my older dog, if he has worms in him, would it be safe to administer the all wormer or does he need a blood test to have the all clear before doing so? I haven't seen any worms in his stool tho. oops. :D I must have missed that instruction from my breeder - for some reason i was under the impression that worming was just puppy, then the rest is heartworm. Better get some tomorrow. I think i saw some post/article somewhere a while back saying the supermarket all wormers matches if not better than the non supermarket ones. Thats why i thought allwormers were from the supermarket.

so the all wormers are for life? not just the puppy period. So when does heart worm need to start?

Is the heartworm not the same as the all wormer? Are the all wormers the one from the supermarket?

Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
giraffez replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry for your loss, i have tears in my eyes reading what you have gone through and how devastated you must be. I had to see my dog past away a couple of years ago and it was the worst feeling in the world. Time will heal. I'm now blessed with another dog who makes my heart melt everytime I see him and I am getting another puppy soon. Although they are no replacement for my old dog - he will always be in my heart, they bring joy to me. Thats the sad thing about owning a pet, they will most probably past away before you do, but the joy and happiness they bring you when they are alive are invaluable. Take care and don't be so sad. -
Its been a while since i've done this so I've forgotten what to do Worming What is the timetable for worming a pup? Is this the drontal? And when do I start heartworms? I think i started this on my old dog when he was 11 weeks. Fleas As for flea treatment, are the strength of the medication in the topical vial the same for each weight level - the only difference being the volume of the medication to administer? if i have two dogs that need the 10-25kg packet of flea treatment where each treatment is 2.5mL, could i buy the next weight level up (ie over 25kg which contains 4mL) and half the medication between the two dogs?

thanks all. very insightful information provided

Is this one u describe necessarily the most dominant one? Isnt it the case that the most dominant one, is the one least shy? Or not necessarily?
-
What are you breeding for? For what reasons did you breed batches of puppies? i'm not breeding. I'm buying a puppy. koalathebear beat me to it
-
I've been reading on choosing puppies from a litter and it is suggested not to take the most dominant one or the shy one as they are harder to train. Is this really sound as isn't there always a dominate and shy in the litter (because you are comparing)? The dominant one in batch 1 may not be as dominant as the most dominant one in batch 2 - so wouldn't that make the one from batch 1 a good selection when comparing with batch 2 and not a good selection if just selecting from batch 1? (hope that makes sense) What behaviour do i look for if a puppy dominant? Could playfulness be misinterpreted or considered as dominant?

Very cute. Thanks for sharing

Yes but even if i were to do it in the backyard, my older dog will still be on a leash
-
Is the front yard considered neutral territory? The only time he is allowed there is on the way out to walks.
-
hahaha thats so funny but great it turned out well! :D Thanks all for sharing your experience.

He has only been around 1 puppy before that i saw in the park and I think he was a lot more gentle with him. No growling, but just want to sniff. Fingers cross it all goes well with the new one
-
Some he growls at and some he is fine. Thats why i'm so nervous Thanks for the tips

I'm getting a puppy soon but i'm very nervous about introducing it to my current dog who is just under 2 years old. Was hoping someone can share their experience to help me make the experience as positive as possible. Some tips I've picked up from googling are: 1) Never let them meet for the first time in the house, take them to a place where its neutral 2) Reward the resident dog for positive body language 3) Expect and allow a bit of growling and showing who is boss but be quick to intercept if it gets too rough 4) Seperate food and bed areas 5) Let resident dog know he is number 1 and not to focus all attention on new puppy. Are there any other ones that I could use? With the neutral area where they meet for the first time, does it have to be a brand new place? Or could it be just outside in the front yard or at the end of the street? And how long does it take the resident dog to accept the puppy - is it mins/hours/days (god forbid)? Any suggestions would be fab! Thanks

Secretion & Foul Smell From Rear
giraffez replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
If it smells like fish, its most probably his anal glands. My dog had it recently, he didn't scoot either... i think it was excitment that caused it. Surprisingly after you clean it with a wet cloth, the smell almost dissapears (but you have to throw away the cloth!) I never been able to express the glands myself although its supposed to be pretty easy to do. Maybe because its empty so nothing comes out. Maybe someone can shed some light on how to tell if its full and how to express it correctly. -
Thanks all for helping me understand this

Hi all I'm not a breeder and have no intention to breed but my question is for breeders so I hope I'm posting in the right section. Just for my own curiosity, for humans, if brothers and sisters mate, the baby may come out genetically deformed. Does this apply to dogs as well? Is it ok for siblings from the same batch to be used to produce pups?

A year ago, the same thing happened to me. I rang them and they instantly refunded my money. Recently i emailed them with a question on something on their website, no reply. Looks like maybe the company have grown and the service could have gone downhill. What a pity.

hahah this is so funny!
