yeah i thought the same as well. But on a different note, last time when I took my dog to have the annual vaccination, he was given the same brand as the one from the previous year and the same type of vaccine but had an allergic reaction to it whereas the year before was perfectly normal. very weird.

Thanks I typically give it like 2 hours after food and it's okay every time. Not sure whether it was really the heartworm hat cause he diarrhea in the first place but wouldn't like to have that repeated again
-
When giving heartworm tablets(chewable), is there a way to do it to minimize a tummy upset? Usually I have no problems but the last dosage may have caused diarrhea

Looking around for pet insurance, has anyone joined with woolworths pet insurance? Their cover seems quite comprehensive (w/o having read the pds). How are claims like?

Scourban - Causing Constipation After Diarrhea
giraffez replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was told it has at least a 12 month shelf life and doesn't have to be stored in the fridge. Agree on the price - one litre left my credit card screaming. Mine was more like 100mls. -
Scourban - Causing Constipation After Diarrhea

It was quite expensive. Like $25 for a small bottle (very small bottle). Are there other places beside the vet that this can be brought at. Maybe online? I have some left, should I keep it in the fridge -
Scourban - Causing Constipation After Diarrhea

Persephone this is genius! Thanks. I was sceptical that the water and steak tip will work for my dog but he drank it all. He had a tiny poo this morning, hard as stone ( this was before I gave him the water). How much water is too much? I'm going to cut down the rice And give him water, banana, sweet potato and chicken instead. Will the stool soften up eventually ? And Rysup - sounds like what is happenIng to my dog. It's good to know that it can last a couple of days and it will still be okay. -
Scourban - Causing Constipation After Diarrhea

You guys, lol! He isn't even attempting to go. The quantity of food he is eating ( no less than before the diarrhea), I would have thought there is something to give. My vet suggested to continue with the full dose of scourban. Maybe I am being overly paranoid, but we haven't had to pick up poo off our lawn in the last two days! Im not complaining but a tad worried -
Scourban - Causing Constipation After Diarrhea
giraffez replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
Could it also be because of the bland diet. He has never been on rice before, usually sweet potato and kibbles. I read that rice can cause constipation aswell -
Ok, so my boy had diarrhea so took him to the vet. Vet prescribed scourban and antibiotics and I fed him the dosage accordingly. The next day, he wouldn't poo so I reduce the dosage of the scourban by 1/4. It's been 48 hours and he still hasn't poo'ed. He is eating, playing, drinking normally. Is it normal for him to be constipated like this after scourban? My vet says I should continue with the scourban as it takes a couple of days to completely firm up. He has been having a bland diet also, rice, chicken, sweet potato. Thanks

Thank you all, I found it

Once every 12 hours, 4ml each time for dog weighing 11 kg

Does anyone know what this is called? I use it to connect my gentle leader harness to the collar of my dog. I'm trying to buy a new one but I've done searches on ebay and the likes for "Connectors" and it doesn't come back http://www.petpalspetcare.com.au/images/dcp01438.jpg Thanks

I did end up going to the vet this week. Vet put him on scourban and anti biotics. Since starting on scourban, he has poo'ed only once, the dosage may be a bit strong causing constipation but when he poo'ed the stool was still soft. May cut down a bit i think. Is it okay to give plain yogart (with live cultures)?

I've start started ooking into pet insuance and they are so expensive. Cost more to insure my dogs than it does me ! Was wondering whether anyone is with medibank pet insurance or prosure and if so, is there a promo code you can share.

Thanks, his energy is back to close to normal so think that is an improvement. His poo is darker than usual though. I don't think this is related but about a month ago, he got into the kitchen garbage and got to some cooked fish bones. I was worried this may have go stuck in his intestines so I monitored very closely the next couple of days after the incident and no blood in the stool, no runny poo, no change in behaviour, no change in apetite, he was on top of the world. I don't think this is related as I would have thought the bones would have broken down by now. But could i be wrong?
-
ok he has finally pooped. Firmed up a bit and not watery anymore. Still not back to normal yet and the volume is small compare to normal. Thats a good sign yeah?
-
Thanks for asking. He hasn't pooped this morning yet so i don't know. I but i think his poo was still runny yesterday night after the pumpkin, rice and chicken. He is still eating and drinking and being his merry self. He was slightly weaker yesterday when i fasted him. Is it still to early to go to the vet? Should I give some time for the food to take effect first? I called them yesterday and they asked me to monitor him for any degradation.
-
Ok my dog has been fasted for 24 hours. I gave him rice+chicken+pumpkin. He ate it all went outside and poo'ed a little (very little). Poo was very watery and was chocolate brown in colour (where as this morning was still yellow brown and not watery). Hope the rice+chicken+ pumpkin would do wonders. Will check his poo again later tonight.
-
I have a pumpkin at home, I'll let him fast until tonight and feed him pumpkin tonight
-
Interesting! Since my dog thinks with his stomach, it never occurred to me that this was ever an option! :)
-
Thank you. No, the BH bag is half finished. When fasting, how long before i will see the results of the stool firming up? 24 hours seem to be a long time without food for my ever hungry schnauzer (i'm sure he won't be too happy about that). The poo isn't watery, its runny solid type.
-
Thanks guys. It started in the early morning of Tuesday. No blood in the stools. And he threw up this morning of clear/white foamy liquid. No deviation in behaviour seen except he must have been upset this morning when i fed my other boy and not him. :) He is drinking water which is good. He has been on BH for a while now and my other boy eats the same thing too so I don't think its the dog food. I gave him a bit of wombak (chinese cabbage) with his meal on Monday night, he has had it before (not often but has had it before).

One of my mini has diarrhea. I feed both my minis the same food and the other is okay. The one with diarrhea is still full of energy and being his normal self, no sign of discomfort. Sould i modify his diet to firm up his stool and if so, what with? He is currently on black hawk kibbles ( has been on it for a while now so it's not the kibbles) with sweet potato added or a banana. Should I stop the sweet potato and add rice instead? Or should I be fasting him instead?

Thank you But the bark he makes when I get home is more an anxious bark. Almost like he is crying. Should I be reinforcing that with a pat?
