  1. Our vet uses Pentosan which is the same as Cartrophen but cheaper, he charges $100 for the 4 but said we could come back every 6 months for 2 shots rather than 4 so it would be cheaper. We have been using Joint Guard on our boy for about a month or so and it is brilliant, as good as Cosequin but much cheaper! We just moved to a house with a sloping block and lots of stairs and our boy is doing really well, no probs at all. We are now giving the Joint Guard to our 7 month bully as well as a preventative and they both get Omega 3 and 6 oil which helps their coats as well!
  2. My bulldogs get chicken necks regularly but one week our butcher was out so I bought turkey necks instead and after a couple of meals she was throwing up and now won't eat them. I put it down to the turkey being a "richer meat" than chicken and she just couldnt tolerate it. I would think that duck would be the same? After the turkey incident I wouldnt feed mine turkey or duck!

  4. I use Muscaban for my two, they hate it as it smells pretty bad but it does keep the flies away!
  5. OMG this is too funny! Erny I do see what you mean, but Bubba does tend to "tigten up" in the cold and "hang loose" in the heat if you know what I mean, actually it is extroadinary to see the difference the temperature makes so that could be that which is causing the er droop :D But IMHO I really dont think there has been any change in size over the past 7 weeks! I am glad zoiboy that you didnt notice too much shrinkage prior to 7 weeks, as I was beginning to think maybe the vet had put it in wrong or something I will be sure to keep you all up to date if there is any more change!
  6. I felt so wrong taking that photo, I had to make sure none of the neighbours were watching Needless to say I won't be getting that one printed at the local shop!
  7. Hahaha ok this is kind of weird but here you go... The before shot I found was taken in August 2005, sorry its not very clear but its the only one I could find, and the after shot I took this morning. The implant has been in for 7 weeks and not much change in size as far as I can see. I think his were particularly small for a Bulldog to start with so I was worried about how much they were going to shrink, but so far they still look normal. The last time he was put to stud the vet said he had an extremely high sperm count, so it will be interesting to see if this returns once the implant has worn off, hopefully no longer than 12 months. Enjoy!
  8. Well as it turns out I have searched the photo files and I do have a 'before' shot that I can post, so I will take an 'after' photo tonight and post them both tomorrow with the exact date my boy was given the implant!
  9. After much research I had the Peptech Impant "Suprelorin" inserted into my 2yr old male entire British Bulldog to prevent unwanted pregnancies in our new bitch pup who is coming up to 6 months. It seemed an ideal solution as we do not wish to breed her until 18months and the implant is supposed to suppress testosterone (hence sperm) production for 6-12 months. It has been around 2 months since the implant was inserted and to be honest i havent noticed much of a difference in his behaviour. He was never aggressive around other dogs including entire males to start with so didnt expect anything there, but he still marks his territory on every tree and post when we go for a walk which i thought might change, and he still shows some interest in sniffing our bitch's behind and unfortunately still humps the cat (the er male cat) :D His testicles have not shrunk at all in my opinion but as his behaviour hasnt changed much so perhpas it is taking a little longer to work in him. I spoke with Peptech about the "shrinkage" and they said that the testes only shrink by a third, so should still be ok for showing. I will give you an update if I notice anything else, can't say I have a before photo to compare if anyone is interested in shrinkage from a show perspective, but for my purposes the implant seemed ideal and apparently full sperm production returns even after 5 consecutive implants (ie. 3 yrs).
  10. Hi - my vet recommended Cosequin over Sasha's Blend as he said it was much stronger and better value for money. It is a little bit more expensive but apparently much purer product, has worked wonders for my bulldog! You can buy it online a lot cheaper as well www.vetproductsdirect.com.au is the cheapest place i've seen, I went to buy mine today and they now sell it in a 30 capsule pack for only $20.30! The 120s are $73.95
  11. you're welcome...i hope it is as good for your baby as it is for mine
  12. Hi Kelly I buy Cosequin from www.vetproductsdirect.com.au they have it for $73.95 for a bottle of 120 and all my local vets were charging around $120! My vet was happy to reduce the dose to only 1 capsule a day so it lasts me 4 months (my boy is 25kg). I did hear that you can now get Cosequin in a 30 capsule bottle so you can buy it monthly, not sure how much this is you would have to ask your vet, but it is definitely worth it!
  13. We have our British Bulldog on Cosequin which is what our vet recommended and i have to say i was totally surprised by how good it is! It contains purified glucosamine and a special 100% chondroitin whereas sasha's blend only contains 14% chondroitin according to their website. Apparently chondroitin is what stops further degredation of the cartilage so it is the most important part, glucosamine only creates more cartilage but then you are still fighting the break down of the cartilage. Thats why glucosamine tablets alone are not as good as a product that also contains chondroitin (I read that on the web somewhere!) Cosequin is a little more expensive than sasha's blend but my vet said you are getting a purer product and better value for money. I buy mine online so it ends up even cheaper
  14. My vets recommened for my boy Cosequin which has concentrated glucosamine and chondroitin (which is what is in the shark cartilage and mussel products but its purified so the body doesnt have to try and metabolise it). Its a little more expensive but apparently its worth it as it is the only one that has clinical studies to prove it really works. I researched it alot on the net and its the number 1 prescribed arthritis product for dogs in the US, but you can get it here through your vet or www.petdirect.com.au. We have just started it so no comment yet, has anyone else tried it???
  15. My staffy pup had demodex but we believe it was genetic as she has the few spots on her head as an 8 week old pup which we tried to clear up with better diet (Missing Link added as well), tea tree and neem oil topically (which unfortunately did nothing for her) and eventually ivermectin when she was 16 weeks. By this stage her whole body was covered in lumps and she had lost most of her hair the poor angel, but it never made her "sick" as such. We were cautious about giving her the ivermectin but it was a last resort. We titrated the dose slowly and i have to say it is amazing stuff, she never got sick from it and the spots disappeared within a matter of two weeks, and her hair began growing back. By 6 months old she looked like a new dog again. The only side effect was on my part, i was allergic to the ivermectin in her skin and every time i touched her i broke out in a rash, but that was bearable. I sympathise with you because generalised demodex is a nasty thing to deal with, very expensive as constant vet visits were needed but there is light at the end of the tunnel! We had great results from the ivermectin but im sure cases may vary. Good luck!
