Hi BB could you please add me to March litters German Shepherds due March 5th, we saw 5 on ultrasound  After 3 attempts Bella is finally pregnant :whee:

I would prefer for a baby NOT to have an anesthetic unless it was absolutely necessary and the first time it happened to a puppy of mine I rushed him off to the vet who said that he was fine, no reason to remove the tooth and yes he was. Yes I have also had a broken tooth and not had any pain (just as well often cannot get a dentist appointment for a couple of weeks). The ultimate decisions is yours to make :)

JMO I would tend to leave the tooth alone unless the gum or the jaw becomes swollen or inflamed. I have had the same thing happen to me a few times and only once did my vet remove the tooth, that was after an abscess formed because the tooth had split right through the middle into the gum letting infection down to the gum. It can happen so easily with babies. Just keep an eye on him.

Fordogs replied to Pat Smith's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Pat, I am sure that with all of the help given by DOGSonLINE users Hera will be back home with Peta very soon. Good Luck -
So sorry to read you bad news, Just don't know what else I can say except sending you and Rommy :grouphug:

Does anyone use the Protec C3 C2i for the fist vacc.
-
Ok so this is not a one off event, He is a Stafford and a great number of them have skin problems. Have you tried a gentle Shampoo like Aloveen from your vet? Maybe you need a vet visit, he might need Antibiotics or something else to sooth his skin.
-
What have you been using on it?

Liz she is beautiful, Wish you both all the best.

How exciting another first timer, it sounds as if you are well prepared, I always have fresh goat milk in just in case I need to supplement the puppies, mum has usually been having it any way for a couple of week prior to whelping and just in case mum stops eating ( I have one of those )I always have those little 6 or 8 packs of roo meat that are kept in the fridge section at the supermarket, chicken breast pre cooked and small fussy dog food like My Dog. A thermometer I keep handy and hang above the whelping area and just check the internal temp every now and again (don't want a broken thermometer in the box). Mum and the puppies will let you know if it's too hot. Good luck, will your vet allow you to help with the puppies?

First Litter....all Advice Appreciated....pups Have Arrived
Fordogs replied to king's topic in Breeders Community
Congratulations King, both you and your girl did well, 7 is a good number. :happydance: As for being calm I always feel just as you were feeling, believe me it doesn't matter how many litters you deliver it is always the same. My girls always manage to chew at least one cord down too far and panic stations, puppy squealing, mum trying to take back her baby and me trying to tie off or get forceps on a wriggling puppy to stop the blood from squirting. Hope you manage some sleep time. -
I have seen ingrown hairs along the spine on Ridgebacks but I have never seen the problem in that area, on the last pic it looks like the skin is sloughing off. Is that what is happening? Are you applying anything to the skin and is he on Antibiotics?

MOST Dogs of all ages usually cope really well with re homing. You all need to step back a little. As a breeder I always tell puppy buyers to call me first if their situation changes and they can no longer keep the puppy. Let's all be realistic life can suck at times, it all falls apart, you may move, may be left alone or perhaps with children whose priorities come first etc etc. I only recently helped one of my puppy buyers find a new home for their 1 year old dog, I advertised and screened all of the phone calls, of which I had quite a few and then passed on a couple that I thought were suitable and yes we did find the dog a wonderful new home where it has settled right in. So please contact your dogs breeder and I am sure they will be more than willing to help you out. The decision of re homing your dog is never easy to make. I think that the OP is being very realistic, trying to organize a new home for her dog now and not leaving it until the last moment.

French Bulldog Puppy - Am I Too Cautious?
Fordogs replied to Barry the Bulldog's topic in Puppy Chat
I agree, it may not be what you want to hear but I think that given your time restraints and your living arrangements you may not yet be ready for a puppy. Your puppy is very young to be away from it's mother no matter what the breeder said and playing all day with 2 older dogs is definitely not a good idea, your puppy needs lots of rest and you are asking for him to be injured even if the 3 dogs are being watched an accident can happen very easily. Taking him out is also a danger if he is put down on the ground he could possibly pick up parvo and even if he has had a vaccination he is not fully covered until 10 days after his second vacc. -

You still haven't answered WHY you're doing the mating IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF RETAINING ANY OF THESE PUPPIES. What are you hoping to PROVE?

You have to look at your own dog and decide, look at his temperament, if he is he easy to train, is he well behaved around people and other dogs, are you able to prevent him from escaping. If you can say yes to these questions then all is good BUT if he is showing any signs of aggression towards other dogs or people marking his territory inappropriately eg inside or on the outer walls of your home or when visiting others then I would have him desexed. Health wise, I have only ever seen only a few dog with testicular cancer but I have seen quite a number with prostate cancer and a great many dog that have been very badly injured during fights with other male dogs over a female on heat. I really don't think that desexing male dogs is purely for health reasons the biggest reason is to prevent behavior problems. You also have to look at your puppy contract, what has your breeder stated? I am not advocating For People to Not Desex BUT just to allow their dogs to mature a little that's all.

Why is everyone in such a hurry to have the boys castrated? I tell my puppy buyer to wait until they are at least 12 months old. My male is 7 years old and I have 4 females he has never had a stud and no accidental matings. No, he is NOT aggressive either, he is very easy to live with NOT like my bitchy females always eyeballing each other. I think you guess I love him the best
-
QUESTION ?? If this is a TEST MATING then why are you not keeping the whole litter?? or at the very least keeping all resulting puppies until all health checks are done. Sorry if I have missed where you have referred to yourself keeping any of the puppies. I also have a breed where compulsory hip and elbow scoring is required for breeding and registration of all puppies and through out my many years of working as a vet nurse I have seen the results and pain of puppies with genetic grade 3 patellas even with surgery many still do not have the quality of life that should have been available to a healthy specimen.

Why not contact local breeders and ask if they were culling any older dairy goats. I was lucky to source one of these a short while ago. As with kids make sure that they have NOT been on any medications recently or that they were not killed by euthanasia injection. Though I am sure you would ask this anyway.

A good scrub with hot soapy water would be enough. As for cleaning post whelping I love baby wipes they do a great job / safe for a baby's bottom excellent for the whelping box.

I shake my head and wonder just where these people manage to come out with such garbage. Hope your sister didn't listen to him. What breed of dog does your sister have ? and what breed mated with her? If there was a huge difference in size the bitch could be treated by her vet to abort the possible litter or even have the bitch desexed.
