  1. OK, so I have just come through a BAD WEEK, even though I feel like having a huge rant that is not the reason for this topic Twice this week I have had to deal with puppy owners and vets who have either have no knowledge of the breed or only see them as possibly helping to make their January bank balance healthy. I am at least thankful that one did contact me after her initial vet consultation and I managed to send her to a GOOD vet in her area and of course the puppy is a very healthy, happy individual. The other sadly did not contact me prior to having her not quite 5 month old female desexed and hip x-rayed (which of course were completely normal) so now the vet is running up blood work on Toxoplasmosis, Neosporum Caninum and then they are going to do testing for Osteochondroma. How can I help these people that don't or won't listen when I recommend them to Good vets in their area? For me number 1 ------- is I tell them to contact me first before allowing any vet to do anything invasive to their puppy, ( unless it is life threatening) --------- BUT as you see they don't always listen..
  2. Progesterone test first. Can't believe your vet didn't suggest that first or even do a slide and see what the cells are doing.
  3. I am another for never leaving puppies with adult dogs unattended --- Ok to leave with Mum if she doesn't mind Never leave food out either I always take it away after 10 minutes -- grazing throughout the day forms bad habits and picky eaters.
  4. Another vote for Dogtainers and estimate about $140.00 - 150.00
  5. These days I work for a vet that only has walk ins and I hate it, I am constantly apologizing to people for them having to wait a long time. The day is often a complete mess and we regularly have people walking out. We often have breeders come in with litter vaccinations & microchips with no notice, my vet just keeps going at his usual pace. Very annoying. I once had a breeder (new Client come in at 5 o'clock ) with 7 adult dogs for vaccinations 4 people already waiting, (we close at 6 o'clock). I didn't leave that night until 8 pm. Previously I have only work for vets that have appointments and the day is organized and usually on schedule except for the odd emergency. Give me appointments any day
  6. Yarrowfell ---- Good News ----- Lovely photos
  7. When ever I open an email from my puppy buyers the whole family rush to see the photos and read the tales of what they have been getting up to. It is wonderful to know that these people are so happy with their puppy and that they enjoy every moment with them and want to share those moments with us their breeder >>>> I still receive photos and a card every Christmas from a buyer who does not own a computer and she bought a puppy from my first litter 6 years ago. It's Christmas send the breeder an update and some photos - Go on it won't kill you --- :D
  8. Sorry pure breed, Yes you may have paid a lot of money but think also of the breeder, she spent many hours perusing pedigrees and then choosing a stud dog, probably spent many dollars to get the bitch pregnant, making sure the bitch ate well, worried, waited, lost many hours of sleep, worried endlessly over the health of the dam and her puppies, fed them well, socialized them, her list is endless and YOU CANNOT EVEN BE BOTHERED TO LET HER KNOW HOW THE PUPPY IS GOING, DEVELOPING AND GROWING YOU ARE SELFISH NOT EVEN A PHOTO. Would it really hurt you that much?? :D STAYING IN TOUCH WITH THE BREEDER CAN BE BENEFICIAL FOR BOTH OF YOU. I also ask puppy buyers to stay in touch it helps me assess my litter and know if I am on the right track with my breeding program.
  9. LMWS, I felt a huge knot in my stomach when I read this --- So sorry for your loss. MissMonaro sorry all of your hard work ended in heartbreak & I hope the rest of your litter are doing well. Yarrowfell I hope that the rest of your litter is doing well.
  10. Congratulations everyone, sorry for the ones that didn't make it, I will always wonder why they don't make it and could I have done anything else for them. During the past 2 years I have lost at least 1 puppy in each litter it is so disappointing, no wonder I am a complete mess during the whelping, I just keep wondering if the next puppy will pop out screaming. I'm thinking of starting to give my next bitch pregnancy vitamins starting before mating her.
  11. Congratulations Risyntira, Love the Borders.
  12. Congratulations Sway 4 back boys to choose from, Hope mum and bubs are all doing well. Mum and puppies here all going well. Wow this is going to be a busy month --- Good luck to all of those with bitches still to whelp.

  14. Well Razz is playing games, last night I waited while she snored all night. Took her temp again at 6 am and it is back down to 37.1 and eating like a horse as always. Congratulations Missymoo 4 baby Cairns. I hope everyone else is going well and delivering healthy puppies. Looking good Miosa
  15. So sorry to read your news BB You gave them all that you could, just not meant to be.
  16. Sway, what is your girl doing?????? Don't worry she will probably beat my girl, I hope that she is only fooling me, she only went down to 37.0 and then she has gone back to normal. I do like it when they hit 36.9. But they don't all read the book. Last litter this girl ate a full dinner at 7.30 and the delivered her first puppy at 10.35pm. Good Luck Sway, Missymoo, hilaryo, Addicted2gold I hope we all have good news tomorrow.
  17. Razz has temperature drop 37.0 so she is also on whelping watch.

  20. Add me to the list Cossavane German Shepherds confirmed Wednesday by ultrasound at last Razz is pregnant. No phantom this time  Edited I forgot to say when they are due I am so excited >> due November 8th from first mating.
  21. If we allow it this will just go away and people will forget all about the subject until one of their puppies is involved. It is all about education. Send your puppies off to their new homes with a warning for the owner to contact you first before letting any vet touch their new baby That is what I do.
  22. lovealab, they don't send them away, they are read on site and the surgery is performed on the same day, they HAVE to be desexed at the same time as well.
  23. Teekay, Did you feel intimidated or blackmailed into the procedure? Did they make you feel as if you had to do the procedure ASAP for your puppies well being? Did you just take your puppy in for a vaccination and they brought the subject up of JPS? Did they want you to book the procedure there and then. How old was your puppy at the time. From what you have already said I take it that you have already read my other thread on Juvenile Pubic Symphyodesis that I started 23/02/2009. I was told by DOGS NSW that they were going to do an article on this but as yet it has not been done (I live in hope that it will happen). At the moment I have a litter of puppies and in my puppy package I will be adding a warning about vets that offer this procedure, they will also be given a veterinarian of recommendation for the area where they live.
  24. Teekay, May I ask what symptoms your puppy was showing prior to the surgery?
  25. I once saw a dog have it's ear amputated after having a pressure bandage applied, it became infected and it turned gangrenous ---- not a pretty sight.
