Hi, I had my vet check my puppy at age 8 weeks as she also had watery eyes,( clear and not causing any redness to her eyes) my vet said that it was because her eye lids were, at that stage rolled into the corner and over her tear duct and as she grows and her face fills out all would be fine 2 months later it simply cleared up. No treatment . No entropion or distichiasis. IMHO 5 weeks is far to early to make a call on entropion unless of course it was very severe.

For me I would visit the vet and tell them the symptoms and then say that you would like their opinion as another vet has said """""""""""""""" . You do need to be upfront with what you would like to know and if possible take records from your other vet as that would save you $$$ because they would not need to double up on tests.

How Long Can A Bitch Go Past Her Due Date Of 63 Days?
Fordogs replied to Jsk's topic in Breeders Community
I had a bitch go 5 days over. Took her to the vet every day past 63, he checked her and said all was fine and it was she delivered 2 healthy puppies on day 68. -
So true Miss Dannie, Bob was a True Blue Guy, I can still remember the first time I met him at a GSDL show and as he walked past me my dog Jola tried to take his hand in her mouth because he didn't stop to pat her, he immediately stopped to talk and gave me some training tips. and that was the beginning of a friendship spanning 8 years. I truly miss Bob at each and every show I attend. RIP BOB

Juvenile Pubic Symphysiodesis- Hip Dysplasia
Fordogs replied to baker_girl's topic in Breeders Community
Wayrod, you give no indication of where you are but here in OZ especially if you own a GSD you do have to have to provide proof of hip and elbow results of sire and dam in order to register a litter. TOO BAD all other large breeds don't have to follow suit. Yes I do know that MANY do this voluntarily but it should be compulsory as with GSDs. ( Sorry if I have offended anyone as I am not sure as to other breeds and regulations). -
Juvenile Pubic Symphysiodesis- Hip Dysplasia

baker girl, If you go to the Breeders Community way back on 23/02/09 you will find the topic I started back then. At that time Dogs NSW promised the do an article on it BUT as yet it has never happened, if it had maybe it could have save quite a few puppies from having an unnecessary procedure done. -

Baker Girl, click on my user name and you will find a number of posts regarding JPS. After selling a couple of puppies to ACT I researched JPS and most clinics use USA data for their reference BUT here in good old OZ we are more vigilante in health testing than in USA. The puppies I sold to ACT were PENN hip x-rayed and found to be very good BUT the vets still recommended doing the procedure simply because they were LARGE BREED PUPPIES so BEWARE and be sure to get a second opinion PRIOR TO HAVING A MAJOR PROCEDURE PERFORMED ON YOUR PUPPY. -

Please do a search on this site regarding JPS surgery and please DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR VET RE THIS ISSUE. I am too emotional about this surgery and already had issues with vets on the subject. Some vets will really try very hard to push the surgery onto young puppies before they are 20 weeks old. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE NOTICE UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN A SPECIALIST FOR A SECOND OPINION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Pet Health Insurance As Part Of Puppy Packs
Fordogs replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Breeders Community
For both of these puppies I did recommend that they should see a vet that knows the breed , the owner of the male puppy did just that with in 2 days, and went to see a vet in their area that I recommended who relieved their minds and told them that they did have a very normal healthy puppy with absolutely no health problems. The other owners said that they were going to take their puppy to see a vet that I recommended them to but as yet they are still to do that. -
Pet Health Insurance As Part Of Puppy Packs
Fordogs replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Breeders Community
I did register my puppies with Pet Plan until 2 of my puppy owners who continued on with the insurance contacted me with all sorts of possible problems with their puppies. Vets were encouraging treatments such as Penn hip x-rays at age 20 weeks and hip fusion as a preventative surgery and unnecessary blood tests, and putting unnecessary strain on both new owner and me. All testing on both of these puppies came up negative and the owners both felt that they had put their puppies through unnecessary stress and only lined their vets pockets ------------- Both owners canceled their insurance. So for me no more Pet Plan, which is a shame because I thought it was a very good idea. Sorry to be the only negative answer. -
Hi. Please order 2 medium and 2 large for me thanks.
-
Ptolomy, Sorry didn't come back until today but my girls GSD's would love large or medium i-squeeks. They are tennis ball mad and I know that they are no good for their teeth.

Hi, I don't suppose you happened to have a couple of leftovers do you ? If you do I would buy them in an instant.

Picky Pups - Is It A Stage They Go Through?
Fordogs replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My almost 5 month old puppy went off her food after the rest of the litter left, I found the only way she would eat was if I hand fed her ( yes I know that was very bad of me ) but she refused to eat out of any bowl. The next thing I did was to scatter food onto the floor, she ate that and thought it was a game, then I let some fall into the bowl and before she knew it she had eaten a full meal out of the bowl. Never looked back. -
I agree with Nekhbet -------- sit on the floor / grass and call him to you, have treats and when he climbs up on your lap praise and treat. He will soon find that it is a nice place to be.

Actually poodlefan the vet did damage the permanent tooth bed and that tooth never erupted as the vet went all the way down into the bone. As a vet nurse I myself have removed many baby teeth with no problem, they are usually very easy to remove.
-
A vet charged me 350.00 for a fractured baby canine. When I saw what he did I was extremely upset ( the puppy was only 4 months old,) vet did a huge flap to remove it when all that should have been necessary was to dig it out. Never went back there. Canines are very difficult to remove there is as much tooth under and into the jaw as above therefore an adult dog probably will require the flap that this vet did on my puppy. My old girl damaged a lower canine a number of years ago and it has never given her any trouble the vet says while it is ok leave it alone.

Adult Canine Teeth Coming Out But Puppy Teeth Still There
Fordogs replied to happie's topic in Puppy Chat
Give you puppy something to chew on like a big raw meaty bone. I bet those baby teeth will fall out very quickly. -
pinkpuppy, be sure to give him some big beef knuckle bones to chew on. Glucosamine Chondroitin is also good for the cartilage also.

Sorry for your losses, Lat year I had a bitch day 56 she had a fever, temp of 41.0. She was checked by my vet at 6pm and he said all appeared fine -- good heart beats and mum not in distress, by 12 am I knew that she was early stage labour -- She was not having any contractions and so I was not too worried but I was hoping that she would not deliver for another day or so --- She delivered first puppy at 8.45 am that same day the puppy was very hard to get going and I was sure that she would not survive, 2nd puppy was alive but did not survive, 3rd puppy still born, 4th puppy also still born 5th puppy was detached and the sac was full of faeces, (which the puppy had inhaled and digested) the sac was black and shriveled up ( I believe that this puppy was the reason for both the high temp and early delivery ). I phoned my vet, in a high state of distress and was advised to administer Oxytocin and just to get the remaining puppies out ASAP. This is the only reason that we ended up with 4 live screaming puppies. Her previous litter was 7 puppies all fine. I do not know if I will breed her again.

Just my 2 cents worth. A couple of years ago we were just finishing off packing the last minute items, as we had sold our property and were leaving the very next day (we lived on rural property and our dogs were contained in their very secure long runs - as I thought). I was walking another within our well fenced outer yard when I saw a neighbors Foxie loose and it was in my yard heading towards the dogs in the long day runs. I still don't know how but I leapfrogged the 4 foot outer fence to chase it off but it took no notice and just as I landed on the other side my 2 dogs grabbed it , I was horrified, managed to pull them off but the dog was injured. Later that day I paid them a visit to see how she was doing. Husband said that the wife had taken to letting the dogs out each day and that it was all their fault --- but the next day as we saw the removalist truck out of the gate the Ranger arrived, ------ they had made a complaint --- he inspected my property fences and dog runs etc. and he said that was aware that the dog was on my property and that the owners admitted to him that they let the dogs out for a wander each day, we had nothing to worry about as our fencing was more than adequate and he would take no action. AND my fencing was nothing like yours I feel you should not have to make any contribution at all - you have done all that you can to confine your dogs and the onus was on your neighbors to see that their puppy was safe before allowing it the freedom of the yard. JMHO. If the Ranger saw your fencing he would be amazed. FORT KNOX I would say.

I have fed my dogs for the past few years on Bonnie Working Dog. My dogs have always done well on it and the price depends on where you live I pay $48.70 for a 20kg bag but some only pay about $43.00

Try putting a couple of drops of Liquid Tears (eye drops) in each eye and see if they will flush out if not take her to the vet for a check up. Don't mess with eyes
