  1. LizT, I am hopeful, so I will do exactly as I would have if I had not done the x-ray. I do have another bitch that has had phantoms BUT this girl is different, she is always very lean and never ever passed up a feed except during the last week before she had her first litter. Fingers Crossed for a good result.
  2. I have a female that I was absolutely sure was in whelp and due in 8 days. She has put on weight and filled out some but not as much as she did for her previous litter of 8 puppies. For the past 4 days she has been off her food and that is exactly what she did when she had her first litter but after an x-ray yesterday (but not a very good one) that said NO PUPPIES I am a little confused. I think that I will continue to treat her as if due to whelp in 7 or 8 days, take temp each am & pm, install her in my whelping room and hopefully wait and see what happens. AM I IN DENIAL? possibly yes. BUT hopeful.
  3. Tapua, where abouts are you? Check your local phone book and you may find a dairy goat farm in your area, there are 2 within 30 minutes drive of where I live. Milk is very cheap and I buy frozen.
  4. Hi Waffle from that full head picture it all looks OK. That was why I asked for a full head shot, don't worry he will be fine.
  5. Hi, when did he have surgery? Did it look like that when you picked him up from the vet? I have seen eye ablations before and that just does not look right to me. Do you have a full head photo as it might look different?
  6. It looks like September the first month of Spring is going to be very quiet. I for one am very happy that my litter is NOT due in Winter, thank goodness, as the past 2 years I have had litters in the cold winter month of August.
  7. Hi, I have been waiting for someone to start a September list. I will be doing an ultrasound on my girl next Tuesday BUT don't think that I need it for confirmation as I am so sure that she will be having some GSD puppies around September 20th
  8. I only had to walk my puppy past the dog van and she tries to drag me away she is 8 months now and still dislikes the car but has been better recently. A friend told me to give her a peppermint lolly 20 minutes before travel and I think that has help her as she has not vomited in the car for a few trips. Don't know if it is the peppermint or she has just grown out it. Another friend has a dog that also suffered from car sickness, her dog always traveled in the back of her station wagon dog so she thought she would try her on the back seat and she has never been car sick since. Trial and error I think. GOOD LUCK.
  9. I don't understand why your vet won't order it in, most vets are more than happy to do special orders and they can usually have it in 3 or 4 days. Have you offered to pay before they order? If you do have to change try full cream goat milk prefer fresh or frozen from some one who has a dairy goat, (not from the supermarket )
  10. Firstly is she already in season if so what day is she and last of all is she to be mated this season? When I have used Chlorophyll I start on day 1 of heat as that gives better results and you don't want to mask the odor if she is to be mated. I also buy the more expensive brand and give 10mls am and pm on food.
  11. Charcoal is good for the digestion so she must know that already and she is trying to help move it along smart puppy. My dogs will also eat charcoal from the fire when we have put it in the holes they dig, it won't hurt them. Yes a bag or some gloves might be a good idea for you to check what she deposits for the next 24 hours.
  12. Had a puppy a couple of years ago that was ripping her blankets up and one day she did a poo that was completely enclosed by a piece of blanket it must have been 1 1/2 inches wide and about 7 inches long after that day all she had in her crate to lay on was a piece of particle board until she stopped chewing. Sounds rather harsh I know but it was better than surgery to remove a piece of blanket. Compared to that I am sure your puppy will be fine but I would just keep an eye on her for the next day or so.
  13. Thanks SecretKei check it out. Sorry I should have done a search first.
  14. Thank you all for your advice, it is all very helpful and not only that I don't feel so lonely now about my problem puppy. Thank you for your offer Alpha Bet might see you there one day It sound like a fun place to train. Both of the clubs near me are NO CHECK CHAIN types so I give them a miss I am open to all types of training as I have been involve with Puppy Preschool and Barry Weston"s books are very helpful so I know how easy training can be with most breeds but my GSD devil in disguise would be an even bigger challenge using a flat collar or halti as a training collar, she needs a little firmer tool used correctly of course with lots of encouragement and treats. Yes we endeavor to do some training every day in several short session Actually Alpha Bet, just reading your post again has me thinking I do know a few of the boarding kennels in my area maybe one of them might allow me to take her there and introduce her to more dogs.
  15. My now 8 month old puppy really REALLY wants to be friends with every dog she meets but unfortunately she is so much in their face they soon back off, even with my other dogs she is submissive, licks their face, rolls over and then jumps all over them. I don't allow her to get too close with strange dogs because I am sure that if I do one time she will be bitten. When the other dog is not too close I can get her attention, she will come in front nice and close, watch me and she gets treats but if they are nearer she takes no notice what so ever, then I look like an idiot with a wild, uncontrollable dog. She is not aggressive just uncontrollably happy to see you and friendly. Yes she even has her own cheer squad Does anyone have any ideas as to handle this kind of behavior. All ideas welcome, this is getting out of control and I also want her to have friends that like her !!!!
  16. Definitely teach your kids NOT to disturb your puppy, puppies need their sleep !!! Would you allow someone to pick up your sleeping baby? It's the same thing !!!
  17. Good Luck with your puppy, I hope that it will be fine. Wonderful show results.
  18. Why not just Google whelping forms you will find a number and surely one will fit with what you are looking for.
  19. Hi Sherri I have sent you a message.
  20. My items were delivered in 3 days. I still haven't needed them - waiting - waiting - waiting on my bitch.
  21. Do not buy the baby nasal ones they are too fat and completely useless. I bought one for my last litter and tossed it, better to buy the elongated ones from Sway. ( Very fast delivery)
  22. OK I was at work yesterday and trying not to give the riot act to a puppy person. Puppy was just 6 weeks old and owners brought in for 1st vaccine. They had already had her for 1 week !@!!!! Yes they were doing the right thing!! Unfortunately a local ranger was also in the waiting room and gave the puppy owner a run down as to why not to buy a puppy prior to 8 weeks of age. Unfortunately it is NOT the fault of the buyer BUT the problem lies with the breeders who only want to unload the puppies ASAP. There are far too many breeders out there that are too willing to unload their puppies at just 6 weeks or even earlier just to be rid of their burden. These Yes BYB are only too willing to be rid of them, they do not give pedigrees, puppies are not microchiped, no diet info, worming instructions and the list goes on. We will never be rid of these breeders, they will continue to do the things that they have always done and that is make money from their bitches at least twice each year.
  23. Bob, Yes I agree, why go through with an AI without doing a progesterone test first, a teaser dog is not always reliable some bitches will tease and accept a dog to mount and mate even though they haven't ovulated. And some studs are so good they won't touch a bitch if she is not ready then you have the other kind, if she's on heat then she is fair game.
  24. Bob, not everyone has a stud dog in their yard and that is why we have to test. Even if the stud I will use lived closer I would still do progesterone testing just to make arrangements easier for the stud owner. I would prefer to take my bitch once and get the job done rather than bother the stud owner multiple times with a bitch that just isn't ready. My bitch at the moment is day 22 and still is not ready I don't know what game she is playing.
