  1. Well, I have received an email from the puppy buyer stating that the original xrays will NOT leave the Vet clinic and as such will not be sent to Roger Lavalle as they are not members of the GSDL so he will not read them!!! (Don't know if this is true, I will have to check). Years ago when I worked in a large city vet practice we regularly sent xrays to Lavalle or Graeme Allan for assessment but if this is true then there are other radiologists that can read them so I will speak to the vet tomorrow. I would like to thank you all for your support with this problem and I hope that in the end We have a great result for all dog owners.
  2. Just from speaking of this recently, I would probably start progesterone now, if she goes much lower she will probably loose the litter.
  3. I have rung the Vet Clinic involved, they don't have a scanner so can't email, I should have asked if anyone there has a digital camera to photograph the xray, then they could email me. The vet concerned is not on today so I will have to ring back tomorrow, it will be interesting to see if they did PennHipp. Not sure whether that would be in the puppies favour or not. The only advantage would be that the vet is NOT a Specialist reader and as you say the xray need to go to the US.
  4. At this stage I have asked for the xrays to be sent to Roger Lavelle and I will pay for that, I have also asked the puppy owners if they will give permission for their vet to scan them and email that to ME also. No response yet, I might phone them. As for taking action if they are normal, I will certainly give that some thought. The puppy owner also said some awful things to me he insinuated that I have dysplastic dogs in my pedigree so I have asked him to verify this with names and breeders, I know he has nothing to substantiate that as all dogs have their AZ stamps so he would have to go waaaaaaaaaaay back. He also said that she was under nourished but he sent me an email after 1 week saying that she was fine but not eating much and did I feed her once or twice a day (this was in my puppy folder) twice a day as she was difficult to keep weight on.
  5. I am so sad and feel guilty now but they did seem to be the perfect family for her, the 2 young boys fell in love and she was so gentle with them running (YES RUNNING not LIMPING) and fetching the ball for them for over half an hour. My decision to let them have her was difficult but I thought that they would make wonderful owners (BOY was I wrong).
  6. Heidii, I only see 3, Is that what you are expecting?? Hoping for More .......... I wish you Good Luck for a trouble free whelping. Edited for spelling!!!!!!!!
  7. mollipop, I have also had issues with vets in the ACT area and JPS surgery also 1 on the Central Coast, lucky for me and the puppy the owners have consulted me first and I have been able to send them to a BETTER VET---------- But after this one I will NEVER EVER sell a puppy to the ACT.
  8. 3 weeks ago I sold an 8 month old healthy puppy to a family who came to see my 12 week old puppy that was available, they left with an 8 month old female that I had kept to show but her ears were not correct. I was very happy to see her leave with this family as she and their young son formed a relationship within a few minutes ( love at first sight )it was wonderful to see. I received an email 7 days later saying that she was doing well, though not eating as well as they thought she should, and a photo of her with her new best friend a Rottie around the same age as her. Today I received an email telling me they had her PTS . Friday they had her booked in for desexing and x-ray of her hips as she had been having intermitent limping, they said ( the vet said that she had hip dysplasia and had to be in a great deal of pain ????? What pain ???? She left here a happy, healthy and very active puppy how could she suddenly have hip related pain ? The vet said that she had already endured 9 months of pain and that she would require both hips replacing and that would cost $$$$$$, so they had her PTS. What I ask is how can a vet come to this conclusion with out consulting a specialist?? Why didn't they listen to ME, I always tell my puppy buyers to contact ME first if there is a problem !!!! If there was a problem I would have refunded their money on the spot then I would have had her checked by a specialist ---- Not just a vet who made a diagnosis in the clinic. I have asked that the x-rays be sent to Roger Lavelle for evaluation, if they come back as HD then I would be MORE than happy to give them a refund, BUT WHY OH WHY DIDN"T they contact me first
  9. Same for me especially when they give no info, quite often I have no response from them after that suggestion.
  10. Sorry for your loss. I am another for Preventic collars and a Permoxin spray daily.
  11. Yes I know, I was already a member of the then Canine Council, and my breed club, I also went to shows and spoke to breeders and finally chose my breeder and then had to go on a waiting list for almost 2 years. But now that I am in the same position looking for those special people who I would allow to own one of my precious babies I do at least have phone conversations with every possible buyer and sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. I don't have a web site so no puppy questionnaire. Usually first contact is email and second has to be via phone call. I simply do not respond to next email if they don't ring me.
  12. OK, Please tell us how all of you folks managed to attain your first show/breeding dog ??? The numbers of dog club memberships are falling, they all require new memberships and new exhibitors at shows. Why not take just a little time to talk to these people instead of simply judging them via e-mail, you may just be surprised???
  13. Yes, you are correct pers HYPO is / under active but that does not necessarily mean that it will always be so, I would recheck in a couple of months and if still HYPO then medicate as required. Lucky it is NOT too serious if kept under control.
  14. Living on the Southern Highlands and working at a local vet I often see dogs with the resulting horrendous wounds from pig hunting. Not a pretty sight but many hunters do have some great leather chest protective wear for their dogs.
  15. That sounds like a normal day in Melbourne. I have only visited once and the day went, Fine & sunny > Rain > Hail > freezing > windy. We were waiting for our flight home 4 hours early
  16. My son is in the Police service and for a few years he was a member of the dog squad and one day on duty in Sydney his Lab went scurrying under a bush and he was sure his dog was onto a scent (his dog was an explosion and fire arms dog), anyway the dog come out from under the bush with a ROAST BEEF ROLL and scoffed it before he could stop him  . When he told me I couldn't stop laughing but was very, very embarrassed as he has an public audience.
  17. After reading this topic, I will discuss my last litter, Since having a severe heart murmur in a puppy a few years ago I have supplemented all my bitches with Folate before and during pregnancy and all has been good but my last litter was a nightmare >> This female has only ever delivered 2 litters of 3 pups > 1 stillborn next 4 > 1 still born so for her final litter she was given Receptal and Yeah she gave me 5 beautiful babies I was ecstatic. But the hammer was about to fall > 1 male puppy was born with a short > just 2 vertebrae tail. He did fine that is until they were all up and walking (all he could do was bunny hop), he had a spinal deformity and had to be PTS > down to 4. The other puppies all continued to thrive > that was until they were weaned. Next disaster was a puppy that started to vomit occasionally after meals, at first I thought it was just because she was a little pig so I slowed down her eating and she was much better but not enough for me to relax. (In my heart I knew what her problem was) but I had to know for sure so I asked my vet to do an xray and sure enough she had a megaesosphagus. I brought her back home but a week later I had to give her her wings. Broke my heart to let her go. Then there is the other male puppy he has descended testicles. Previously to this litter except for the heart murmur I had never had any deformities. I will NEVER supplement again and nor will I interfere with Mother Nature, she always knows best.
  18. If it is soft undercoat hair I would pluck if not use thinning scissors and hair gel.
  19. Are you feeding from separate bowls or one? Sometimes makes a difference with competition. The last time I had one like that I scattered the dry food on the ground, worked a treat. I don't believe in changing the food for them, makes them too fussy, put the food down and any left after 10 minutes I would take away. they will eat when they are hungry enough. Sounds harsh I know and when you are so worried about them not eating enough but try for a couple of days.
  20. If you ask your vet would probably order one for you ????
  21. I am there already and I can never see myself with anything other than a GSD
  22. Suzi, Sounds like you have found a GREAT VET and your other vet has just lost a good client!!!!! Good for you and your puppy.
  23. My dogs also love apples and they help themselves to the tree. Better than tennis balls, Play then eat!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Suzi, do a search on here and you will find a few related threads on this. As a breeder I have had issues with vets that have recommended this on GSD puppies that I have bred. They are after your money. Move on to another vet ASAP or have it out with your present vet NOW and let them know JUST WHERE YOU STAND ON THE SUBJECT. Ask on line here for recommendations for vets in your area.
