Skin Problem Diagnosed As Ringworm/ Fungal
Fordogs replied to erinonthefarm's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It doesn't look like Ringworm to me. Did your vet look at it with a blue light -- Ringworm usually shows up fluorescent under a blue light. -
We always have a few roos around, they are not afraid of us or the dogs, far too friendly for my liking, they come right up to our fence near our back paddock gate and I am always having to chase them away before taking the dogs for a walk (always on lead ) too risky not to. My dogs would certainly give chase if not on lead and the roos decide to take off, though they are fine as long as they remain still.

Clipping A Double Coated Breed
Fordogs replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
sheree e4, If you are doing the clip for tick prevention why leave the tail ??? I have found ticks on the tail before. She is your dog but JMHO I have seen a few dogs where their coat has grown back mottled and uneven. I sold a GSD a couple of years ago to QLD and the owner shaved him off (no 10 blade) I will never understand why she did that. When his coat grew back it looked dreadful, dirty red colour where it should have been black and all uneven. For me they need their coat for insulation, use a tick collar as well as the Advantix or a daily spray with Permoxin. I understand just where you are coming from I was paranoid also when I lived in a tick area. -
You sound like the toilet police .......... 9/10 times on undesirable surfaces She is a puppy !!! With a puppy of that age I am happy just that they manage to reach outside ....... Not allowed to go on the mulch, concrete or the white gravel, RELAX Please. Am I being to hard on myself .... I don't know BUT I do think that you are being Toooooooo Hard on the puppy.

I have 1 that didn't have her first heat until she was 16 months -- after that she had heats that were regularly 4 months apart, she has had 3 litters of puppies.

I can't see why they can't do both on the same day. Ideally they could xray then ring you with the result and if ok with you go ahead with the surgery.

Congratulations, Well done little girl - Did you whisper in her ear and tell her to hurry up or it would be a C Section? Works for women.

I have a separate note book for each of my females, >>> I note every time they come into season and how it proceeds and if going to a stud every little detail no matter how minor it may seem all of the way through to when the puppies leave home, where they go, tattoos, microchip nos. and registration numbers.

I agree, he is beautiful, what do you call his colouring? Hope he is more comfortable today.

First thoughts would be 1) hydrocortisone cream but it cannot just be given out without a vets ok and cortisone can retard healing also. 2) would be Meloxicam to aid if in pain but once again requires a vets ok. If no vet was available neither of these could be dispensed. Nurses and receptionists are not able to just give out these medications without authority. 3) try another vet if the dog is still unsettled.

Anyone Use Karingal Veterinary Hospital For Reading Hip Xray?
Fordogs replied to Fordogs's topic in Breeders Community
Thank you a friend said she was sending xrays there for evaluation. -
Congratulations

I would always suggest that when taking a puppy to the vet either wait outside or leave the puppy in the car until you are called into the consult room.

What breed & how many puppies? If she is producing milk the quality will be fine, just keep an eye on their weights.

De-worming While On Antibiotics
Fordogs replied to Mason_Gibbs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
No rush for worming I would wait a week or 2. -
So sorry for your loss. How heartbreaking

Thanks fifi, I didn't think of that but from what they have said so far I am not sure that it would happen as they will not share any records without the owners consent

I thought that I should update as I have spoken to both the vet who treated the puppy and the practice owner. Both of the vets that I have spoken to have told me that this puppy's OWNER was never told that the puppy was dysplastic and she was PTS against their advice. Their advice was that they take her home and at 12 months they should do a BETTER xray and have them scored as the xray they did was not good enough for scoring. This is completely different information from the email I received from her owner who told me that Ricci had hip dysplasia and the vet advised them to put her to sleep as she was in pain. I have emailed the owner as I need to hold back from the things I might say,(all I want is the truth and I really don't want to get into it on the phone). As I have to find out which party is being truthful, I explained to them exactly what their vets have said to me and if that is incorrect please take it up with them not me. And also that if they (owners) are still refusing to release the xrays then we have no further contact with them.

" Does everyone else get so upset over a newborn baby?" Yes, we all do, so sorry for your lost puppy, Now you have to concentrate on the rest. Good Luck

:grouphug: I hope that your puppy will be OK

I only use fresh goat milk, I give it yo Mum and keep it on hand if needed for puppies, (so far been lucky) but i always use it during weaning any way.

I have finally spoken to the vet concerned and she claims to have told my puppy's owners NOT THAT SHE HAD HD but that her hips were NOT PERFECT. Then I asked about sending them to a specialist radiologist this is quoted by her " If they were sent to a specialist radiologist then he would say that the x-ray was NOT a good enough quality to confirm HD " I asked her why she thought that she was qualified to read them as NOT perfect hips? Now I will wait until next week to talk to the practice owner. It certainly looks as if RICCI was euthanized for NO REASON.

AdoubleJ, yes I do know how quickly something like this can come on, even when every dog on a 5 generation pedigree has been x-rayed and is HD free it is posible, (sorry for your puppy ) My problem is with the puppy buyer who in spite of being told to contact me first if they have a problem of ANY kind and they didn't do that, instead they had her euthanized without a second opinion or even consulting me. Had they contacted me prior to euthanizing her I would GLADLY have told them to bring her home to me and I would have refunded their money on the spot. I had lived and loved this puppy for 8 months, I would never have sold her to a family had I thought for 1 minute she had a problem, she had never shown any sign of lameness and had very normal activity (even my vet was horrified when I told them what had happened) and of course I had never envisioned any problems. This person also accused me of having dogs with HD in my pedigree as he had done some research (this I truly know is a lie) so why say such a thing? After only 3 weeks of owning the puppy and emailing me 2 weeks prior, telling me she was fine and getting along well with their young Rottie, wouldn't you be just the slightest bit suspicious especially when they say that they won't agree to a second opinion on the x-rays but are wanting a full refund of puppy and costs?

Today I rung the vet clinic and they gave me a different story, the vet concerned is apparently going to ring me and it sounds like they might be willing to send the x-rays to a specialist ??? Lets wait and see! Lowenhart, I did give them the (I am a responsible breeder and I keep very accurate records of all my litters) Which I do and don't we all??? And yes I do realize that the records remain the property of the vet BUT don't most vets send x-rays away for the experts to read and they are then returned to them?
