Check out page 1624 of the lab thread. Mercedes just got a new baby clumber. So cute!

Archer loves to lick! He especially likes bare feet and it's even better if you've just been for a run/walk so are a little bit sweaty!

I just throw it in with the rest of the compost (food scraps). I don't find it takes any longer to break down than the food scraps. When it's done it gets dug into the garden. We don't grow vegies so no idea if that's an issue.

Neither of our dogs could care less about storms or fireworks. Maybe a few barks at neighbours' parties but that's it. We left ours home alone overnight, got home this morning and they were fine.

Archer retrieved a dead minor bird last week. Thankfully no maggots involved though! Still, gross! -
Leia killed a big skink like that the other day. She also regularly catches blow flies and moths. Fearless hunter that she is.

Silver "labs" are weim crosses.

I take advantage of hot days and warm winds to wash my lab boy out in the backyard with the hose. I have washed him in the shower before but that results in black lab hair all over the entire bathroom. I brush him regularly and he doesn't need a bath very often, 3-4 times a year provided he doesn't roll in anything gross. I wash my smaller girl in the laundry tub with warm water, about once every 2 months.

Leather but don't go too soft or it will scratch.

Great idea for a thread

As I said in the lab thread, some hats were harmed in the making of these photos. I bribed them with cupcake!

Is Any Amount Of Chocolate A Problem?

My 11kg dog has eaten a mini toblerone once before and she seemed to have a bit of a tummy ache for a few hours but after that she was fine. -
Fessing up - We do that. It is however meant in a joking way! And I do believe we treat our dogs like dogs and not children.
-
No not practice babies here, but I do think discipline-wise, dog training can help with child raising in certain respects!

My labrador whines when he wants something. Like when I come home and he's really excited but I won't say hello until he sits, so I tell him to sit and he does it but he whines at the same time and looks up at me expectantly. I discourage it but secretly I find it funny how he tells me off!

Agree with the above.

Do you keep her crate covered & dark? My two fall asleep around 7-8 as well. I swear they are so lazy! I put them to bed at 10-10.30pm. They will happily sleep until at least 8am. I keep their crates covered. When they were little if they woke up in the morning I'd take them for toilet trips then put them back to bed. You have to ignore any noise at this point otherwise they just learn that making noise=get up and have fun. Nowadays they just sleep through. Occasionally I hear some scratching around 7.30ish. But they just had to learn that we don't get up until I say so.

Leia sort of does this sometimes. She doesn't growl but she barks sometimes at people on the street. And I never understand why as usually we walk past people (even quite close on the same footpath) and she doesn't even blink at them. Yet rarely at other times she barks and whines.

I just don't understand why blue is allowed in the breed standard, when by virtue of being blue, these dogs are unable to meet another criterion in the standard, ie. black nose.
-
Sounds like a simple solution to me! If you don't want him in the ensuite long term start looking for another safe/warm area he can be locked in for the night. I love crates as you can put them pretty much anywhere in the house and you do not hear a peep out of them once they are in there.

I save empty peanut butter jars until I have two at a time. Give those to the dogs and they spend ages chasing the jars around and then licking out every last bit of peanut butter. Empty milk/soft drink containers with a few holes punched in the sides and some kibble inside with the lid on are also good for a day or two (cut the plastic ring off around the top of the bottle).

Why is blue allowed in the breed standard if dogs of that colour are significantly less healthy?
