Thanks everyone for your responses about the obedience levels. I have had an high and a low day Some of you would of seen on my FB - I lost my cat Miss Kitty today. she passed away on the operating table after being attacked by a dog on Saturday. The vet has been trying to stabalise her since we took her in sat night, but when he opened her up today the injuries were very severe, and her heart gave way :D Im so thankful she came home to say goodbye. Vet said she had been attacked by a trained dog, who knew what it was doing - and had basically gone in for the kill.... he also said its not the first to happen from our area :p However Hemi passed his obedience test tonight - and will move up to advanced beginners next semester! Woohoo

OK - So I am completely from a showing background and can probably explain all of that to you, but am at a loss when it comes to obedience Is CD / CDX the obedience titles? And what is involved in the first obedience trial? I am such a noob and need it explained in simple terms Cheers

I have my obedience test tonight! Eek... hope Hemi passes

Geez, you guys have an exciting group of pets... mine consists of 2 dogs and 2 cats.... did have a siamese fighting fish too, but took him/her home from work during christmas holidays and the cats ate him/her.... Hopefully we may have a new addition towards the end of the year! Although for the past 3 weeks, we have had 5 or 7 dogs (depending on the time of day), 3 cats, 2 SPOILT birds, a goat and a sheep to look after.... It been fun having a mini zoo Tonight I am back at home, and back to just my pets Hemi is doing well in obedience... we have our test on the 18th!

Thats just me being extra, specially careful ST!!! I guess I hope that by being "super sensible" when it somes to eating, drinking and exercise I am lowering the risk of bloat in my ridgie....... I am still very traumatised about losing our first girl that way..Its not something I even worry about with our Kelpie though, even though there is a chance she could get bloat too!! A woman was telling me about how they lost their first Lab due to bloat because it drank a stack of water in one hit, so I am cautious about the dogs not drinking excessive amounts in one hit. Not sure if that was in the study? From what I gathered, the water bit in the quote above is just in reference to drinking either side of a meal? The theory is that is they inhale/gulp the water, it traps the air, which causes the bloat. Or something along those lines... someone please correct me if I am wrong

Paws, Claws and Beaks Retreat in Wattle Grove... I have boarded my cats there, and the facilities, and the owners and staff are wonderfull I dont need to use boarding kennels for the fur kids, cause my family looks after them for me.

I am still very traumatised about losing our first girl that way..Its not something I even worry about with our Kelpie though, even though there is a chance she could get bloat too!! there is nothing silly about being extra cautious with our fur kids...When Mum first got into Danes I did tonnes of reading about bloat. Unfortunately mum lost her foundation bitch at about age 6 to bloat. Her brother is still going strong at 8 years I think... When i started showing the in-laws goldies, I didnt even think about them being prone to bloat, until one of the dogs had an epidode in Albany - at a show no less... a quick trip to the vets thankfully from recognising the signs early and he is now 11 I heard recently of a Westie having bloat... never actually even entered my mind being a smaller breed.

Securing A Dog In The Back Of A Wagon (advice)
RoxyNHemi replied to auir's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a cargo barrier installed in our Commodore Wagon. The barrier has a flap iin the middle above the back seats My dogs just have bedding on the mat of the wagon and free range in there, they are quite good at lying down once we start moving. I have crated them in the past in the wagon, but this worries me as if im rear ended and they are in there, how am I going to get them out? I would go against strapping the harness in, due to sun, I find generally the sun glares in one side (even thought I do have tinting) and the dogs will move to the opposite side to get away from it. -
Could you not borrow it off a colleague??

I havent been to a class in 3 weeks... first week I had off was that really bad storm, and there was no power in SR so I guess they would of cancelled it, and there was NO way I was driving 30 minutes in that weather....Second week it wasnt on due to the public holiday/classic weekend, and last week I didnt go as I only flew in from Melbourne at 4pm, and really couldnt be bothered going..... Will be heading down tonight for sure tho!

Thanks She is mine to show - but lives with Bob and Joan and Joan grooms her... I am learning to scissor her, and I prepare her at shows :D Her name is Style, she is a dream to show. Here she is winning 1st in Minor at the Nationals, she went on to beat the dog for Minor of Breed No new dogs for me yet... hopefully a puppy might be in the pipeline later on in the year.. Altho with what Hemi did this morning, he grossed me out and I wondered if I really need a third dog.... He was playing with the goldies and one of them walked off to do his business.... Hemi followed him and delighted in rolling in it! He will be thrown in the bath tongiht when I get home as I was about to walk out the door to work

Hope everyone has had a good weekend... I picked up a nice 8pt CC and RUBOB with my 8 month old toy poodle on the weekend I also had the experience of handling a Poodle at the Contest of Winners - we got knocked out in the first round by a pointer handled by Showdog, but hey, I was happy we were invited, and Cash showed his butt off, so I was happy! I hope this photo comes up My dress wasnt that dark, but the lighting made it look that way...

I think quite a few WA peeps will be over there, there is also a afghan specialty, a whippet national, a Staffy show and a Bully show.... will be interesting to see them all under one roof!

Not that I post much here, but Im going to be missing for a few days... im flying out to Melbourne for the poodle national  Hugs to you CC... I had to place my tzu a number of years back due to personal reasons... still cuts me up thinking about it, but it was the best thing for him at the time... i message his new owner every year on his birthday and wish him a happy birthday still... Welcome!! I love Beagles Do you have a puppy on the way or are still contacting breeders? RubyStar, i'm just at the beginning stage of contacting breeders. I'm finding it all a tad nerve wracking to be honest!! Too many questions in my mind LOL not sure whether i should provide too much information, or just the bare necessities and obviously is it rude to ask the cost of the dog!! Hi and Welcome Why dont you come down to the show this weekend and meet some breeders and their dogs in person! Only time not to bother them is when they are ringside and about to go in the ring, other than that, you should find them approachable...
