Hello all, As you may, or may not know, I bought home a Westie pup just over a week ago. I am having issues in teaching him to go toilet, where he should. Whenever he does it in the wrong spot, i growl at him and put him on the newpaper in the house, or outside.. He doesnt get the point that he should be going on the paper/outside and pees wherever he feels, in particular on our running mats, or the pillows on the floor for them to lay on. The other thing is, when we put him to bed at night, we walk them out the back for 15-20 minutes first, he never does anything, then we put him in his crate, which has a bed one corner, newpaper over half, and food/water in the other corner, and he walks straight onto his bed an wees on it. I blamed myself during the week, as we only spent two full days with him, before returning to work, but I thought he may have got the point as he has been corrected in the evenings, as well as we spent all weekend with him this weekend. The very rare occasion that he has gone outside/on the paper he has been praised VERY highly, but the point doesnt seem to of got accross. He is now at the point that when he heres me growl, he runs.. Any suggestions of what i am doing wrong / right and how to help this come along quicker Sarah - who is fed up with washing pillows, floors, running mats...

I meant that the yoghurt, pasta and tuckertime are aditives to his biscuits

You dont need to bribe me for photos, Im a proud mother and LOOVEE giving them away. I will feed him mince/vegies and rice later on, I just want him to encourage him to eat biscuits first. By the way, he is a 9 week pup. I want him to learn that biscuits are his staple diet, with nice stuff from time to time. He is my first pup in quite some years, and I forget these things. He belly bloats after he eats, but I can feel his ribs, and I want to make him fatter, but he gets 3-4 meals a day and doesnt eat it all (1/3 cup of biscuits) and gets the left overs to nibble on, but never gets through them before the next meal. Im worried about giving necks/wings to him at this age.

I beleive Yoghurt is good to add to food... Im trying to make the food tasty for my Westie Pup, he doesnt seem to be a big eater, someone suggested Custard, but Im worried about the sugar etc being too much for his tummy. How much is adequate? I know he already loves the yoghurt (natural of course) as I gave him some on his dinner last night and he went to town on it, but I obviously dont want to overdose him on it. Thanks Sarah

Hi Goldenclare I show Goldens in WA. You perhaps should go to the training class, the one on Tuesday nights start at 7... they will be quite busy with the royal coming up.. As mentioned before, get there early and watch prior judging to see what the judge is looking/asking for and definately get your baby out there on a lead (is currently showing a golden boy, who i hvae taught to stack brilliant, but we lack in the movement department!!!)

I dont think just general walking up and down stairs is a huge issue, but bounding up and down, racing up and down continually would. Dont take my word for it, but my mums danes used to walk up and down a set of 5 stairs and they never had any damage resulting..

I have a rescue, she is semi incontinent. Some nights, I will wake with a wet patch on the bed, other nights she will whine to go out. She was treated with some medication, I only gave her one course, but it just reduced the size of puddles, and as soon as she came off it, it started more reguarly. The vet said there may be side effects with continuous dosage, so I have gone against it, how hard is it to wash the sheets, as apposed to putting my dog through possible side effects... The vet also mentioned it could of been a result to being steralised. She also doesnt always sleep on the bed and has her own 'couch' so Im not so heavily affected by it All the best, I would be changing vets to one who is keen to figure out what the issue is NOW. Sarah PS I beleive some vets do still tatoo as I have come across x 18 mth old dogs who have been tattood rcently. I spoke to the vet nurse about tattooing and she said some vets do if requested

Ok, so I bring home my new 8 Week old Westie puppy on Friday night... one of us will be home at all times over the weekend, and I have taken monday off work. I will be taking him to puppy preschool at hopefully 10 weeks, but my real question is my work collegues are REALLY eager to see him, they have been seeing weekly pics of him and would like me to bring him in on Monday. He will remain in my arms but im just a lil worried about overdoing it with this little guy, obviously he has had his first set of vacc's but wont of had his second lot. BTW my work is a plain basic office, and I know that all my collegues dogs have been vaccinated. What are your thoughts Sarah

Someone Tried To Feed My Puppy Cheese~
RoxyNHemi replied to Gerda the Schnauzer's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use cheese quite frequently, as well as sausage, polony, chicken, ham and sometimes bacon. I like to change it around so they dont get bored. As for the strawberries / pear and apples, Im not sure. I know my dog has eaten strawberried before and not had any side effects, but like with any dog, whats good for one, might not be good for the other. Obviously these would be in small doses, so I wouldnt stress. sarah -
Thats why im playing it safe and getting her vacc's up to date Im pretty sure she was given a heartworm injection when we took her into the original vets, as she was found in a pretty wild area, and there was a dead, half eaten kangaroo not that far from her, and that was the vets main concern. But I have no record of it, so when this vet asked, i mentioned it to her and she said to give her another as a precautionary method.

Shes a I found her rescue, local council couldnt be bothered, we looked for owners, and when no-one claimed she stayed, so it wasnt through an agency as such. I just gathered that if someone went through the hassle of sterilizing her (she also has a docked tail, and shes a staffy x ridgback) to start with, they would of vaccinated, but Im doing this to be safe, as Im about to bring a new puppy home and just doing it as a preventitive.... Shes about 18mths Was shocked when we went to paid, as we got C5, Heartworm and an ointment for her ears as she has some infection (only a little one, but enough to make her shake her head a bit)

Hi, I just took our rescue dog for her second vaccination, Its a little bit over due, but we assumed thaat she would of already been vacccinated as she had been sterilized, so wasnt too stressed. It cost $76.00 for a C5. I was wondering what others pay... I thought this was expensive, we are going to a new vet, because we have moved areas. Thanks in advance Sarah
