Definately dont leave the collar on all the time, only when training, and in the car. I used one of the Kramar soft collars for Cruise when he was younger, most of the time I use a 2 ring slip lead for walking on (i have a plain one for walking, and a bling one for showing/show training)

Thanks all, I found it to work well on my Westies nose, it will need reapplying before each show though. Someone saw the difference on my dog, and wanted me to try it on their dog, didnt work as well as the dog likes to dunk his head in the water bucket and lick his nose lots

Various things will work I would try a good whitening shampoo like Dazzle Dog and perhaps chalking before going in the ring

I have heard prices from $800 - $1500

Run Free Mr Goo. May you find peace in remembering all the good times.

Good on you. You brought it to her attention the reality of what could possible be. (Hopefully not tho)

Good news that you found the answer to the problem I would get some Kojo in the mean time, and just be wiping the area to get it cleaned, and rid of the stains
-
Ellz, I just finished looking up Ironcyclen and that isnt an option as Westies do have Copper Toxicosis as a listed health problem, and I wouldnt want to do anything to increase his chances of having this problem.
-
Thanks everyone for your responses I have been warned about using Kelp, i was using it, but stopped because I heard some bad things about it. Where would I find Ironcycles Ellz? I think it may possibly a winter nose Moose

Cleaning the eye area with a product called Kojo eye conditioner may help get rid of the staining. We used it with our Shih Tzus, one required daily cleaning. But I would still be inclined to find out if there are any underlying issues

Hello Just wondering if anyone has used this product, and the outcome of it? It doesnt say much about the contents, and im wondering with the nose being a sensitive body part if the chemicals may hurt the dog? Thanks Sarah Edited to add: I am looking at using this on a dog that typically has a black nose, but has gotten a winter nose with the lack of sunshine

Introducing An Older Puppy To A New Puppy - What Age Is Best?
RoxyNHemi replied to katemacca's topic in Puppy Chat
I have replied to you in the Westies thread -
I think, it is up to 18 as a junior, if i remember correctly

Im sorry, Ive read through all this, but I dont think its fair for you to bring a dog into your home, and leave it outside. Dogs are companions and need attention, they arent just something you can leave out the back, because you are worried about damage to your new carpet! The only time I understand dogs being outdoor dogs, are working ie: cattle / herding / farm dogs, they are getting their fullfilment out of there lifestyle, interaction with humans while working all day, doing what they love best.

You can actually enter multiple of classes, but if you are awarded 2nd in one, you are automatically disqualified from the others as you are a second place getter. I know one person who once entered her dog in state and open, there were 3 dogs in state and she was the only one in open, because she entered both, she had to participate in both, she got awarded 2nd in state, which meant she was already a beaten dog, and couldnt go in both. IMO - Its a waste of money. When it comes down to choosing if you want to enter your dog in Minor or Puppy, i go on maturity. If I have a very mature 8 month old, I may put it up to Puppy. But you must remember some dogs in puppy are almost 12 months. CruiseNRoxy this is infact incorrect. I have a Whippet bitch I exhibit that we frequently exhibit in Intermediate (her age class) and NT (State) Bred (means more to her owner/breeder). We have had this come up in the past and according to the rules a dog must be judged in ALL classes it is entered in. So for example, we had Nicky in Intermediate and she was exhibited against one other and was beaten. She is a beaten dog in the Intermediate class but has not had her shot in the State Bred class, and therefore is not a beaten dog in that class. She would then go against another bitch for State Bred and usually get first, because of the second place in another class she is not eligible for Challenge, however if the Intermediate bitch gets challenge she is eligible to contend for Res CC. If she gets first in both of her classes and then goes onto win Challenge, both of the second place dogs return for Challenge. For us it is worth it because we exhibit a few Whippet bitches but there is only 2 of us to handle, by doing this we knock ourselves out (unavoidable anyway) and usually have 2 left which works well for us. If I need to clarify let me know. Actually, the rules state that a beaten dog may not compete for the challenge so even if your bitch may win one class, if she is beaten in another she should not compete for the CC. And with regards to entering in multiple classes anyway, check with your individual state controlling body on this rule. Here in Tasmania, we are allowed to enter ONE class only per dog per show (with the exception of sweepstakes, progeny, property classes etc if offered). Thanks for clarifying Megz and Ellz, I must of misunderstood it when I was explained it a few months back.

Is This Normal For A 6m Old Staffordshire Bull Terrier
RoxyNHemi replied to NJSTAFFY?????'s topic in Puppy Chat
I would listen to peoples advice... I thought the head looked a bit like a bullmastiff. Did you get him from a registered breeder? If so I would be asking why your dog is very different from the standard . -
Belly Band, or do not let him out of your sight in the house. I have taken to this approach with my young lad, who took to peeing on curtain in an open room. I just have sectioned that area of the house off, and he doesnt go there anymore unsupervised. He also took to peeing in a family members house when visiting (they didnt long have a bitch in season there) so just belly banded him to save my embarrassment. I have found that a mix of vinegar and water works quite well with masking the smell to stop them going on the same spot.

Thanks for these other ideas everyone I use #1 All Systems Crisp Coat, and find it very good -
Hadnt thought about the belly band - thanx settrlvr NILIF training??

Love your thinking.... my OH is in the right industry then I was thinking of suggesting that I dont like that curtain, and perhaps we should replace it....
-
Hi All, Cruise is now 10 months old, and VERY rarely has mistakes in the house, except for this curtain in the front room, he will come in from being outside and still wee on it. We have tried those cleaners that absorb the smell, bleach (around the area not on the curtain) and the vinegar trick (oh the room is tiled not carpet)... All went well after vinegaring it for 2 nights, then he did it. We have an unsightly barricade up at the moment, so he cant get to it, and I would really like to not have it up... Any suggestions? He also has minor mistakes at nannas, but she had a girl in season and i think this was his problem.. Any suggestions so I can have my house back to normal will be greatfully received. Sarah

Sweepies are a fun, yet still competitive class. They nominate an age group, and any exhibit in that age bracket is eligible to participate, usually the entry fee is about $5. Usually there are 1st - 4th places. The entry fee goes back as rosette and the prize money. For winning 3rd in Puppy Sweeps this weekend, i got a rosette and $30. All breeds go in together, instead of being broken down to breed / group and judges pick from a line up of all breeds. They can usually attract about 30 entries. Hope this clears it up for you Ohhhh ok. So do they just nominate an age group on the day? Or do you know in advance that this show on this date will have Puppy Sweepstakes? Are all age groups included - surely they wouldn't have Open would they? Heaps of dogs in there I'd imagine! No, it will be advertised in the schedule what sweepstakes are available at the show. We are having a show coming up where they are having Baby, Puppy, Junior, Non Champion, Champion, Neuter, Veteran, Special Veteran sweepstakes.
