  1. I love our Western Classic and Winter Festival! Also our country shows (Albany and Geraldton) ohhh its too hard to pick one
  2. Cruise was taken from us way too soon, On Sunday I went out in the arvo, and left a healthy happy boy, and came home late that evening to him deceased. He was 17 months old. He has left a huge hole in my heart. His antics and just his love for us, and his best mate Roxy was beyond anything we can explain. He also was a very special show dog. We chose not to have an autopsy as it wasnt going to bring him back. He has been taken for cremation and will be home next week. I miss you little buddy, like you wouldnt beleive. Sarah
  3. Continue showing Cruise, hopefully successfully compete in Puppy of the Year, pick up a few more class in group/show and another group or RUig would be nice too.. Until I get fed up with the grooming (stripping) Eagerly waiting for the right new show puppy to be born in a new breed for me.
  4. Jenn Lawrence - Wolfproud training on Thursday nights - 7pm, I think $10!! She trains for conformation handling, and I know she also trains a junior handler amongst that training. I would say training begins again on the week beginning the 4th, as I THINK thats when the k9 opens again. Bunbury - I got Best of Breed and Junior in Group Saturday, Reserve CC and Junior in Group Sunday. Standard Poodle (Jacquis White boy Flynn) was BIS sunday with the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier RUBIS I cant remember saturday now saw the xolo's, but didnt have time to stop
  5. I must add a funny note, A kid at the dogshow on the weekend (with parents that were exhibiting) asked if my West Highland White was a Malt/shih tzu cross.. I just said no - and told him the correct breed
  6. Sorry yes, my terminology was incorrect, it is infact a crossbreed. When I said they are horrible, I know alot that are snappy and unsocial. I grew up with Shih Tzu, and love their temperaments.
  7. Mongrel through and through, and are horrible usually when mixed together Please see my post number 39 which is.. Sorry yes, my terminology was incorrect, it is infact a crossbreed. When I said they are horrible, I know alot that are snappy and unsocial. I grew up with Shih Tzu, and love their temperaments.
  8. Hey, there is no doubt about well run shows... just not driving 5 hours for nothing!!! Although last time it was advertised as sashes for BIG/RUIG at the open show.... and they werent handed out, as they had run out - i was dissapointed as my boy got BIG!!!
  9. Hello, another Perthie Amypie, I dont bother with the Geraldton / Bunbury only open shows... its a long way to travel for no points. I am doing Albany this weekend and then again in Feb... Albany is one of the best shows in the show calendar, its so laid back and relaxing!!! I love it. Albany is about a 4.5 hour drive from Southern River. Am doing Wanneroo, but we are at the K9 on Friday night, so depending if we get through, I may be there on the sat... Im pretty much entered in everything up until the end of the year!
  10. Fluff out on a Jap Spitz coat can leave it feeling starchy and grippy ,I found it unsuitable. Oh wow, We used to use it on the tzus and didnt have an issue with it changing the coat texture.
  11. And Davis Fluff Out works a treat, I would recommend that and CC T&T
  12. Ange, you did really well!! You should be happy, and Max is just adorable!
  13. It is debated, some pull the whole lot out, and some will only do the jacket and neck. I recommend taking the whole lot out to encourage the course coat to come through. I left a little on the sides/skirts and belly as they werent ready to come out..
  14. If the coat is ready to come out, strip it out now, I started at 12 weeks with my boy, and stripped him back to nothing. The way you tell is grab a few (two or three hairs) by your thumb and forefinger and if it comes out easily, then the coat is ready to be stripped. Here he is at his first show stripped back to nothing, just before his first show
  15. QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) First time Owner and Exhibitor 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? From Scotland to seek and dig out small game 3. How common is it in Australia? Very 4. What is the average lifespan? 12-14 years 5. What is the general temperament/personality? There is a mixture, in the right upbringing they can be outgoing sociable dogs. Some can be very rough and rowdy. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? My boy (14 months) loves a good 15-30 minute play out the back of throwing toys, otherwise when you feel like it a nice long walk. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Yes, as long as the dog is put into its pecking order, they are a breed they will easily try to rule you. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? No, I would recommend another dog. My boy has another dog living with him and is left alone about 8-9 hours a day, and occcaisionally still likes to dig. 9. How much grooming is required? Pet, weekly brushing and a clip once every 6-8 weeks. Show dog, brushing every second day, and maintenance stripping of about 30mins - hour then show day about 1.5hours before getting to the show 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? Not sure, based on my dog I would say no, as he is soft if he jumps up 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? luxating patellas, Craniomandibular osteopathy, legg-perthes 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) Ask to see parents, Australia doesnt have any health testing regulations/requirements in place so there is no 'standard' Ask ages dogs they bred lived to, ask any known problems with dogs they have bred. If the breeder is hesitant, I would RUN!
  16. Couldnt think of anything to say when I read this the first time, and still cant. Thinking of you
  17. Cervical Vertebral Instability (CVI), commonly known as "Wobblers" is the compression on the spinal cord between the 5th, 6th and 7th cervical vertebrae located in the neck. It usually develops gradually and is seen in the affected canine typically between 7 and 8 years of age. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a disease of the heart muscle which causes the heart to enlarge and not function properly. I have been researching dobes. and found the above to be good explanations. (taken from www.aegisdobes.com.au)
  18. Im considering doing this next year too. I have heard that the course isnt as bad as some have been in the past. Melissa with the Dobes can give you more, but my interpretation is that it wouldnt damage the coat at all
  19. Kojo Eye cleaner. Google it, and you will find a supplier. ETA Also seek vet advice to see if there is any issues with the tear ducts
  20. To Skye Mel and Kirty No taping or glueing ears is not cheating, as babies teeth, they do all sorts of funny things with there ears, if the cartilidge sets this way, then you cant return them to the way they should be. Also ears are not as important as construction or movement, they dont serve a purpose as such. I have a Westie, and I taped his ears up, I could quite easily see that they were slowly getting there, just not quick enough for the show ring. Cant help you kman, i dont how to do a Amstaffs ears, looks like someones posted a link, hopefully that may help?
  21. I know Vets West do a class, but not sure how is run. There is also a vet clinic on Warton Road that has classes, again not sure how its run, but a phone call could answer that for you
  22. I had Cruise on EP i tried both the Turkey and Chicken varieties, and Cruise seemed to develop an issue around his mouth. (started approx when we changed his diet to it, and has started to clear up since taking him off it) I am on the hunt for a new biscuit, as he is on Advance which I won, but his gas smells horrible!!!
