Agility Training Talk Thread
RoxyNHemi replied to Vickie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We (Hemi - Westie and I) had our first Agility training class last night. Adult Foundation 1 at ACWA. I really enjoyed it and our trainer Blaine or Blake (not sure - sorry!) was excellent. He took the time to explain what we needed to do and WHY.. love when trainers do this as it then makes sense to me. Hemi loved the jumps - and was doing them off lead by the end of the class and Im sure will pick up 'touch' in no time. -
I worry about CCD and the lack of talking you are allowed to do :/ thanks for the FB page, been an interesting read :)

Hi All My Hemi (Westie) and I attended one term of obedience classes... Before the class he was already being home taught, and I have continued to do so since not attending the class.... However I only do little spots of training and not real full on stuff... So I decided to enter him in Rally-O Novice. I so far have done three trials. First one I failed Hemi - I had his lead too tight/kept pulling, nerves I think. Judge said we would have passed if I didnt do that. The next trial we got a score of 94 and a 4th place!! the next one we got a score of 85 (judge told me I needed to slow my pace to stop the lead going tight). So my thing is, hopefully we will have our third pass soon, which means we will move up to advanced. Is there anyone (particuarly newbies) who has trained their dogs themselves to this level? Any tips. I know Hemi needs work on his heeling. I have also enrolled in Agility training which I start next week Cheers Sarah

Should There Be Restrictions On Junior Handlers
RoxyNHemi replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Another exhibitor and I were having a discussion the other day about juniors making the right dog choice. I guess its up to the handlers (and the parent particuarly in the younger age groups) to be able to acknowledge that this dog is beyond their capabilities, it is also something the judge should be noting in the ring. -
Get Hemis Rally Novice Title. (We have one 96/100) Start training with a club, instead of informally at home. Also start Agility training. Compete in Agility at the Perth Royal Show.

I dont think I will even attempt obedience. I will be enrolling to do Agility training in the next semester tho.

Sounds like an interesting seminar. About to enter my second rally-o trial... After me stuffing up my first one I wasnt going to bother, but we have to learn from our mistakes.... Rubystar, sorry I wasnt chatty the other night, I was just really dissapointed and wanted to get home. I think I put WAAAYYY too much pressure on us to pass.

I pulled Toris coat out after the NYE shows, and she has decided she doesnt want to grow it as fast as she normally does.. It will be up to her breeder to show her as I wont be here....

SNAP, I was just about to ask the same question! I've seen them on some lists of purportedly hypoallergenic dogs, but do any of you owners have any experience with people wiht dog allergies, and how they go with your dogs? Always looking for breeds to add to my extremely small list of Breeds I Could Realistically Own. (As opposed to the list of breeds I'd love to own, were it not for the nsurmountable allergy issue... :D ) My husband has allergies to dog hair (and his mum made him grow up with Golden Retrievers!). He can quite happily cuddle with Tori for a periof of time and not have any reaction

Blackdogs, no I dont find them to be a shedding breed, but I have only had experience with stripped and not clipped. I may find a few stray hairs after combing Tori out and working on her coat but other than that I can give her big cuddles before going to work without having to worry about getting a nice fur coating on my clothes. I am only new though, someone please correct me if Im wrong Edited to add - yes there hair just keeps growing if you dont trim it - they end up like big wooly teddy bears
-
I would love to try earthdog - unfortunately its not on offer here in WA
-
Hi All Got some photos professional photos of Tori recently - so thought I would share
-
I would just point them towards who I would recommend, and leave out the ones I wouldnt...
-
Well done to both of you. I know how nice it is to be in a new breed and title it - especially after all the effort of learning to hand-strip! I believe that there is a Sandimorn dog also in NSW who title this year at about 11 months as well. His title certificate is lodged on DOL under the breeder leaderboard.

When I lost my Westie Cruise, I was never going to get another Westie as I was worried I was always going to measure the new dog up to Cruise. I was offered a pup and at first declined him, two weeks later decided that there was so much to love about the breed in general that I would give another one a shot. I have Hemi who is almost 3 and he has stolen my heart in a completely different way.

RoxyNHemi replied to Canine Coach's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have put them up in the poodle forum too -
Can someone please tell me if there were any lakeland terriers entered. No results are coming up on the results site so its either none were entered, or some were entered but not shown
