Large Dogs And Small Dogs Living Together?
RoxyNHemi replied to ash&elar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mum had Shih Tzu and Great Danes, mostly got along fine. Like others said, supervision is the key. Mum had the Tzu first and then introduced the danes. -
Surely if dogs can still "cut it", they can be entered in Open or Ozbred? I read the aim of the author's post as wanting to see dogs who can no longer cut it get a chance to relive their glory days. They shouldn't have to compete to do that IMO. They should be acknowledged for their contribution in a manner that sees each dog recognised, not just place getters. I can completely see both points of view, YES it is fantastic if an older dog can still complete YES a Veteran Parade or Veteran in Show should be applauded, as it is a special class However if a Veteren is entered in a Veteran class that is competing for the CC - usually done at specialties, I dont think they should be applauded as they are classified as a normal competitor. I also think its bad taste when people drag out a Veteran that isnt up to showing, and drag the poor dog around the ring just for a ribbon.

I was under the impression she has placed some of her goldens, and was only going to be breeding her SBT, and this is fairly recent. I could be wrong and happy to be corrected -

Aahhh. Glad the bitch was OK! That would be such a nighmare It was, it was the last of their lines that they had been working for 25+ years on. The heartaches of breeding, which is why I will never get into it. Sorry Rach for the OT -

Hey RnH, is your MIL breeding again now? Did she give up and then go back to it? I have it in my head for some reason that she wasn't breeding any longer No, shes not, I should have put bred.... She did try having a litter this year, but unfortunately the bitch got Pyometra and had to be steralised, and that was her only young breedable bitch. She survived and thats the main thing! -

it is a split show, but i know non sporting, utility and toya are on Saturday. I think alot from your list are in these 3 groups.. poodles you would probably want to take photos of a puppy/youngster as an adult will be in a continental trim, which you wouldnt see on an everyday poodle.... -

I show all the above breeds ive indicated i can help with, im sure the owners shouldnt have an issue with you taking photos, how old does the dog have to be, do you class 7/8 month olds as puppies? If you cant come on Sat, is there another show you could come soon too? -
My darling Cruise, You would of been 2 years old today, it breaks my heart to think of this, especially since you have been gone for 6 months now. You should still be here. Happy Birthday baby boy, hope you are giving them a rough time up there. I swear you are having some influence on Hemi... He is such a darling! Love you Mummy http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l151/Mys...uisesitting.jpg

My boy has beds inside and out, but he prefers to sleep on the tiles inside and the brickpaving outside most of the time...

I get the 'you could put a saddle on that and ride it' when I used to walk mums danes! One thing that shits me, is my vet surgery, when I have booked in both of my West Highland WHITE terriers to come in for the first time, they have asked me what colour!!!!
-
No jeans... someone tried to convince me to the other week when i rocked up to a show and didnt plan on showing, lucky I had a suit spare in the car Skirt or pants are dependent on the weather I know its double standards, but the guys in bright colours look YUCK - i have seen 1 guy manage to pull off the canary yellow and thats it!
-
I used Kuglemans Be-Kalm with my Westie when he was going through the second phase fear period and had a spook and it worked very well. I just gave morning of show, and it worked However a friend used it on a medium breed, and she had to give twice a day for a few days before the show.. but still worked I think this might relate to what Aidan was saying, depends on the dog/cirumstances

West Highland White Terrier - i use a white lead with coloured beads to match my outfit... I thought I could get away with any coloured lead, but it distracts away from the neck line and instead of looking blended looked choppy, so stuck with white cord.
-
I believe you can, but not 100% sure. That is very interesting that thats the reason given i always make sure the dog i am handling will let me show its bite, as you never know when a judge is going to ask it those who would come down to a show if they had cases of parvo at home!!

Agree completely. My first dog bought as a show and agility dog ended up with a bad demodectic mange, then her jaw went undershot after her teeth change and finally she developed chronic muscle problems (and her litter sister went lame a week after my girl did). She is still my bed warmer nearly 9 years later I never even considered sending her back to the breeder, not that the breeder would have taken her back Me too. My "show dogs" are pets first and foremost. Their breeders are told that no matter what happens, the dogs are "keepers". I can appeciate how breeders need to move on dogs that won't contribute to their breeding programs but I'm not a breeder so I don't have that issue. I am exactly on the same wave length as you guys, my little man didnt quite make it as a show dog, wish he did cause he is amazing in so many ways, but he has stayed as a pet, he came into my life to help me grieve and he has done a wonderful job helping me move forward. I was told by many to 'send him back' or 'pet home' him (condition with his breeder is that he goes back) but I couldnt, hes weasled himself into my very soft heart
