  1. i do it, split the large dog ones across my little dogs with a syringe, know lots of others who do also. I have also suggested it to a couple of my very good customers who have multiple dogs to save them some money. But i am cautious about it, would not go around suggesting it to everyone.
  2. Professional groomers are ppl to . The price you paied seemed cheap to me, expect to pay more than that at my salon (for a wash, dry, ears and nails only) on a lab. Perhaps you should have asked them if they offered a coat stripping service? a good hydro surge bath, force blower dry and a brush will help, but stripping (using a furminator etc) will help cut down the shedding further (expect to pay more again), still dont expect your dog to come out 100% hair free! or perhaps buy a deshedding tool and do the dog yourself? sounds like some training is a must also :p
  3. have used the Noahs de-shedder and the furminator in my salon, both equally as good, huge price diffrence, i no longer carry the furminator to onsell to my customers, everyone loves the noahs de-shedder
  4. yes most commonly tapeworm is spred through fleas. And your tapeworm treatment should be done every 3 months
  5. yes, if using advocate you will need to treat for tape worm also, using "droncit" or something similar
  6. 1/2" snap on comb should be ok even up to a 3/4" depending on how much hair you want left, used over a #30 blade. The steel ones are better then the plastic. You might even look into a number #3 blade ETA, make sure the coat is clean, well blow dried and free of any knots and tangles before you use your snap on's otherwise puppy will look moth eaten lol
  7. dont be shy to keep calling your vet if your concerned or worried, a good vet will understand hope all is ok and it passes without fuss

  11. Thinking of Ivan and sending good vibes his way
  12. one of my girls was given 3 months to live after she mysteriously developed renal failure, she was only 5 at the time. Out of the blue she recovered after weeks of care and treatment. A couple of months later the case of the chicken jerky strips surfaced. My vet rang me straight away and sure enough i was feeding them particular treats to her on regular basis. the were suppose to 100% chicken breast, well so the ingrediants said. I am fussy about what goes into my dogs mouths and trusted them treats to be a good choice! My sister in laws mother was not so lucky, her dog died, at the same time, again sudden onset illnes in a 12 month old CKCS he lost his battle. The treats were supposibly recalled however as a retailer i never recieved any instruction to remove that product from my shelves and i made the decsion myself to voulintarily recall them at my loss! I have contact the company, as have several other ppl i know who have all being affected by them. The company denied any fault with there product or on there part. I am disgusted that these treats continued being sold for months after the problem was bought to light! and still the company chooses to burry there heads in the sand :p i was lucky to have had my girl recover many others not so
  13. WOW im hungry now.. thanks tho for the help.... Really? the thought of dehyrated liver jerky does not really do it for me, but hey, whatever gets you off
  14. I'm pretty sure I saw something about them in the latest Urban Animal - I think I still have it and I will take another look. Their article on treats and the processes some go through horrified me. I always look at where things are made now and buy only Australia and check the processes the food has been subjected to. I found Urban Animal and the mention of sweet potato is: "And yes, there are even sweet potato treats that are vegetarian." I have been googling without finding a supplier here, but in a forum someone asked how to make them. One response was to just slice the sweet potato and put it in the dehydrator. Now, not having a dehydrator ( ) I was wondering whether I could do them in the oven and at what temperature would they be dehydrating and not cooking ?? I really have to find some good, cheap, fat free, nutritious treats for the dogs that keep them busy 60-100 degrees so basically as low as your oven will go while still being on, put them on the bottom shelf in the oven and leave them in there for hours and hours and hours! (all day). I have made treats for my dogs using very thinly sliced liver and meat in this method, not sure if sweet potato would be quicker then meat i assume so, i have never tried it with vegies might give it a go, might try doing some fruit as well.
  15. One of my toy poodles had her femoral head removed when she was 7 months old, due to legg perthes disease. It took about 6-12 months of physio and rehab before she would use her leg or put it on the ground. Even still to this day, 7 years on, she will left her leg off the ground very slightly on the rare occasion when she is running around. The vet assures me that it is impossible for her to have any pain, as there is essentially nothing there to cause pain. My vets thoughts were that perhaps there is a mental aspect to it, ie the dog has had pain for a while and has learnt that putting the leg down will hurt so it takes a while to recondition the brain to know that putting weight on the leg will not hurt. Not sure if maybe it would take longer for a bigger dog to recover from this surgery i know my vet said that they only do this surgery on small breed dogs, and tend to reccomend hip replacments on larger breeds. Glad to hear that Keely is recovering well.
  16. These are both good still find malaseb better for really itchy individuals
  17. I would not use malaseb that often - it is quite harsh and drying. I would if my dog had "affected areas"
  18. There are some that are made of sweet potatoe but I haven't found them yet. My dogs love the vegetarian ones, but they don't last long. I used them as a treat, really, not something they can chew on for ages unfortunately. I've been trying to find something they can chew on and enjoy. See my thread on Rawhide Chews: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=169505 Thought so thanks Cynthia, knew i was not going mad, well not yet
  19. i feed them to my dogs all the time, they perfer them now over real pigs ears. I will ask the sales rep again next time she is in what they are made from exactly (somthing makes me think sweet potato, but i will need to double check i could be thinking of somthing else) i do know they are 100% natural.
  20. Malaseb by dermcare. Use 2-3 a week on affected areas only, to save washing the whole dog, leave it on for 10 mins before rinsing, do the whole dog once a week
  21. Yes you can, My bitch (also a Peke) is on both Metrogyl and Metacam and has been for a while now
  22. True, i agree the vet should send home a course of treatment with the dog, if it is showing visable signs of irritation at the time of discharge. Although still dont know that a vet has alot of options re the close clipping and cleaning of the op site for the prepping of surgery etc
