Exactly Papers are better in the hand than chasing a breeder who's phone is disconnected ;) I agree and from his papers we can see who his parents are and that they have been hip scored etc, if you are not given those papers you have no proof of who the parents are etc. Personally i would not leave with the puppy if I didnt have the papers. A GOOD breeder will have already given you a pedigree in lieu of the outstanding registration papers with a promise to forward the papers when they arrived from the controlling body. In addition, you would have had copies of parents hip scores and health testing ALREADY in a folder or booklet and THESE would have been given to a purchaser at the time the puppy left home. For example. My litter of 9 Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies started leaving home at the age of 10 weeks. Their registration papers were not back from the Tas Canine Association BUT they left home with a 50 page folder full of dietary information, a TEN generation pedigree, photocopies of their parents health tests, their microchipping paperwork and assorted other information. Their papers were forwarded as soon as they arrived back. Does that make me a bad breeder? Or somebody who is deliberately withholding papers or do I hang onto the puppies until 13/14/15 weeks of age and THEN let them go to their new homes with their pedigree papers which are apparently THE most important thing about the puppy? I think not. Because if I hang onto my puppies for that long, the next thing you'll read is the new owner coming onto DOL (or similar forums) with behavioural problems because their puppy is no longer a malleable baby and they are having trouble trying to settle it into its new home. Damned if you do or damned if you don't. How long does it take for the papers to come back???. My puppy was registered on the 31st of March with Dogsvic and the papers were back by the 14th of April when collecting the puppy. That's 14 days on the outside, but you can't get it done in 10 weeks I chose NOT to get it done in 10 weeks. I register everything except what I keep for myself on Limited Registration. They are my puppies and I choose what I keep first. I am in no particular hurry to get it done and as I have already said, ANKC rules say that it can be done up to 18 months of age. Either a puppy purchaser trusts me, or they go somewhere else. Simple as that. Editing to add: And once again, as I have said from a previous thread. If you insist upon just selecting bits and pieces from people's responses, then please do them the courtesy of doing so in context rather than just selecting ONE sentence that appeals to you and ignoring the relevant information from around it. You are being deliberately obtuse and it is very little wonder that your responses receive very little respect from other posters. So basically you are saying Ellz, to hell with the prospective buyers feelings on the matter it's your way or no way???. Don't you think that is rather an arrogant attitude to have towards your customers???. :D Correct, they are MY puppies, I brought them into this world, I raised them and if you don't like my terms...walk!

Yes and no, it is possible and relaying your desires for another with a very similar temperament to the breeder would allow them to select a puppy that is most likely to be a good match ETA: if you just go in and pick a random puppy from that litter then the chances of getting one similar in temperament will lessen.

Oh how wonderful
-
It's no different if you're giving yoghurt - the AB's wipe out any effect... I have always given it to babies whos mother is on AB's with pleasing results :p

So sorry to hear you had to give your old girl her wings S N D I hope the weekend will be a good break and help you heal... Drive safely, it's wet and miserable!
-

Kijana's litter should settle down soon, might take a couple of days for the Protexin to really help them out since they seem the most affected. I can't imagine having them rolling in it and her being princess is much fun for you!
-
I would imagine their gut is sensitive and not feeling a whole lot of wonderful at the moment, have you started them on the protexin? I used the sachet once, mixed in a small amount of water and drew it up into a syringe and gave them about 1mL each twice a day.
-
Glad you got the Protexin, you might find it will take a week or so for the babies stomachs to settle again, but hang in there
-
It was FREEZING last year but I like the cold!
-
I've always used Protexin for babies like this and it works very well (liquid form preferable at their age).
-
Not long now not liking all the early morning showers that the weather website is telling me about though

hmmmm Meaning? I don't think the breeder should have allowed the pup to go. I would have waited and arranged other transport if the thing was that dirty. Meaning the pup shouldn't have gone, read NoJ's other post, it explains the situation.
-
Most probably a myriad of reasons - old timers not renewing their membership, less newcomers to the scene, the list is endless...
-
I know it's not the breeder's job but if it was me, I'd say sure to cleaning the crate but the driver would have to wait while it was done properly - these guys are on a schedule and hate to wait - too bad as far as I'm concerned - I would have made sure I really took my time too.....that's probably just the vindictive side coming out in me. I'd also be making sure that I made a complaint to the company too. I'd still not be sending a puppy in that crate or up front in the truck - regardless of how long you took there's not enough time to completely clean that crate (treating it as contaminated) and dry it properly. Puppy wouldn't leave and after a heavy complaint to the transport company I'd not be using them again or recommending them!

I have tried to mentor this person and its like Health testing, WORMING, not letting pups leave until 8 weeks, explaining about limited register... it is startng to do my head in. Walk away and wipe your hands of them - you have tried, but some people you just cannot conquer
-
I wouldn't have let the puppy go at all either!
-
I think I'd be ok about it - as long as you explained the situation first (which you've already said you will) ETA: it might make some wonder though why they aren't capable of doing the ground work etc themselves though?

If there's no issue with fertility and she's previously maintained pregnancy (or if she's a maiden and her mother has had no issues) then it's not necessary. I had a bitch who aborted a litter of 2 with well over a week to go and after some research I requested she be prog tested weekly the next time I bred her...and so we did, levels dropped low enough in the coming weeks and we treated accordingly with prog injections. She delivered 8 healthy babies full term so it was a blessing for us

Might even break out a bottle of wine! We won't be arriving until Saturday so will miss out on the cake but I'll come and say hi for sure!
