Did she bring the puppy home from the vet to show Macey? Generally when a puppy dies the bitch knows there is something wrong and either pushes it away for you to take or it dies and she is aware. In this instance an otherwise healthy puppy (minus the badly damaged leg) has been taken away and in her mind I suppose she doesn't understand why. Give her some time and reassurance and continue to supervise her in the box with her remaining babies...she will settle down again.

To be honest I have never had a problem with entering a dog in another name either on its own or along with my own entries and I never do anything special bar paperclip all entries, SAE & cheque together. SAE has my name on it - never anyone elses.

Travel the distance to a vet who can offer you what you want, if you need to know so desperately that she is or isn't in whelp then you'll go the extra mile to get your answer

This situation is a rather unhappy one - the owner CAN take the bitch to the retirement villiage...she is choosing NOT to.

Next time this happens (probably around 18 months of age) take her to the vet for a progesterone test as she may be having silent seasons.
