  8. Ok hear is a really bad graphic of the plan for jeds quilt, the colour of the sashing (blue parts) has not been decided but this is just to give you an idea, the white squares will be the square you are sending in there will be alot more of them in the actuall quilt we are hoping to make it at least queen size,
  9. Hay guys how are you all going? im looking forward to seeing the squares as they start arriving Just to remined everyone when you have finnished your squares PM me for my address, i have 2 kids and cannot post their address on a public forum thanks
  10. You dont need to be able to sew or quilt to take part, if you go to a quilting / craft store and look at the hudreds of different pattened quilting fabric, pick one you like or represents you and ask for a fat quarter then all you have to do is take it home wash it, iron it, cut out a 61/2 inch square and sent it to me it really is esey Also i have to apologise to the person who sent me a PM about this last night i accidently deleted it Sorry if you could sent it again i would really apreciate it thanks :D
  11. Thanks Frufru exellent advice Your square must be 6 1/2 inches finnished, every one remember that only the 6 inch square in the center will be visible after the quilt is sewn together. When you have finnished your square/s PM me for my address, Please post all of your finnised squares by the 7/7/10 there is no theme your square is yours to personalise. if you canot sew there is tuckloads of pattened quilting fabric, you could purcase a fat quarter of any of them, then wash and iron then cut to size and send. Hear is a site that has plenty of examples http://www.patchworkfabrics.com.au/fabrics.html
  12. Anna, any quilting fabric will be fine as for colour with this type of quilt the more colour the better it looks so feel free to use any colours you want!
  13. Ok guys there is a few things we will need to do to get this finnished, 1st we will need to get our squares together, The square must be 6 1/2 inch, only the 6 inch square in the middle will be visible after sewing them all together. there are heaps of different things you can do to make your square they can be as fancy or plain as you wish, there are tones of ideas on the web for what you can do with your square if you google "Patchwork Quilt Square Patten" you are sure to find somthing you like, Once you finish your square please give it a wash as some fabrics will shrink when washed and if this happens after the quilt is sewn together it can ruin the whole thing, then PM me for my address and send it, you are welcome to make as many squares as you like, if you send more then one please tag the square for jed's quilt as all others will be made into DOL quilts to raffel off after the quilt show 2nd we will need to purchase fabric to finish the rest of the quilt 3rd we will need padding for the inside of the quilt 4th we will need someone to sew the 3 layers together, if you all agree my mum has offered to do this for jeds quilt but we will need others to sew the DOL quilts together 5th we will need to have someone to do the fine quilting either by hand or with a quilting machine , This is the hardest step and takes the longest if no one hear can do this we could look at raising some money to get it professionally quilted. for the moment i think the squares should be our priority and we need to agree on a date to have the squares posted by, so that we can get them all made in time for the show
  14. Ok guys let me get the finer details sorted then ill run them past steve and then ill post what to do next :D
  15. Steve if you want me to try and organise it let me know, :D
  16. Just realised that i made a mistake they were 6 1/2 inch squares sorry
  17. Ok guys i have done this once befor and they usually turn out fantasticly , The way it was done by mums CWA group was every one made a 6 1/2 inch square of whatever they wanted some were quilted, some were interesting pattern printed on the fabric, some were hand written messages, some were patcwork squares when they were all sewn together it looked fantastic, if you need help to organise this then im happy to help and get the pieces together ready to quilt, ETA if you cant sew there are millions of different typs of pattend fabric that can be used in quilts all you need to do is go to a quilting/ patchwork shop and look, they usually sell the pattend fabric in quarters you could pick one that represents how you feel and send it in :D

  20. I have and I would again, mine was a horse we had a very special history and a really strong bond to this day I still can't explain how I knew the moment he had injured himself on the track when I was over 500ks away, when he passed he was only 7 and although we knew why he had to be pts it was very strange circumstances due to him being so young so I was asked by a farrier that also worked for a university if they could have his bones to study, I said ok I felt ill for a few days thinking about It but he invited me to come and see what they had done with him, I went to the uni and they had compleatly reconstuted his skeleton on a trolly with a little plaque with a little pome and his name on it they also gave me a bracelet made out of his mane as a thankyou from the uni. As far as I know he is still there being used and helping others learn. It is a really hard decision and I feel for you having to make it, but if there is a slim chance he may help others with this disease I wouldn't be able to say no
