  3. In order to complete the course and become an authorised implanter in QLD, you have to hold one of the following: - Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) - Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Nursing - Certificate III in Animal Technology - Certificate III in Companion Animal Services - Certificate III in Local Government (Animal Management) - Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation - Certificate IV in Animal Welfare (Regulation) - Certificate IV in Captive Animals - Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services - Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
  4. I get mine from Vet N Pet Direct - $50.40 for 1L
  5. I just copied the instructions on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1AIdeSEo5w I haven't found any need to box the sides in but I guess all dogs are different. My girl took to it really quickly and had it all figured out within 2 short sessions. She happily jumps up on the belt and waits for me to turn it on
  6. Here is a the video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UAjTZgJgiY
  7. Over the past week or so I have been training Luna, my Sibe, to walk and jog on our treadmill. So far we've only done 4 short sessions and she has taken to it like a duck to water I have a short video of her jogging, but I still have to edit and upload it. For now, here is a photo. Has anyone else taught their dog to use a treadmill?
  8. Well done!!! BTW I love your siggie!! What did you use to make that with?
  9. Fabulous I love the Playboy one
  10. Found the pic of 'Thunderbolt' on the website and I certainly don't see any Jap Spitz in there!
  11. Buccal Mucosal Bleeding Time test Glad to hear that all is ok with your pup!
  12. I bought a K9 Cruiser bowl and although it's great at preventing spills, it doesn't stop my pup from flipping his bowl upside down (and therefore having no access to water). In the end, the only thing that worked for me was using heavy duty double-sided tape to secure his water bowl to the floor. Luckily he has (mostly) grown out of his water obsession.
  13. I tried a regular check chain on my boy (he's a Jap Spitz) and found that it became tangled in his coat. I've since tried a chrome snake chain and have been happy with the results. He goes well on it and it doesn't tangle or get caught in his coat.
  14. Oh wow, Zoe is beautiful! She reminds me of my heart dog Tia, she was a pound rescue, a Dobe x Rottweiler.
  15. I have been waiting for some nice weather so I can get some new pics of the little fuzzball But here are a couple of recent ones that I like...
  16. Thanks capanash. Is it difficult to learn how to maintain a show clip?
  17. How long does it take to groom a Standard in full show clip?
  18. Oh no Katherine, I'm so sorry to hear this Bella was such a beautiful girl, how tragic to lose her at such a young age and in such traumatic circumstances. Big hugs to you and Boss during this difficult time. RIP beautiful Bella
  19. Japanese Spitz are known to suffer from tear staining, in varying degrees.
  20. Me too :D Mmmm pepperminty goodness...
  21. I love Fox Terriers, all of the ones I've met have been gorgeous sweet things If you do decide to add a JS to your family at some point in the future - just be warned, they are addictive!! As Marco says in his book, "It is common occurrence that people who have had a Japanese Spitz as their pet are no longer able to find the same satisfaction with any other breed" Thanks for your lovely comments on my boy, he's everything I had hoped for and certainly has me hooked on these wonderful little dogs
  22. To be honest, I haven't had much to do with German Spitz so I'm not too sure how they compare. From what I have read, the temperament sounds fairly similar and I imagine the coat would be very similar also. As far as the Japanese Spitz being vocal, they like to guard their home and family and as such will give a warning bark if they feel that something is not quite right. I wouldn't call them 'yappy' dogs, but as with many breeds they do require mental stimulation to ensure they don't get bored. I would probably consider them to be on the more trainable end of Spitz breeds, they are very intelligent little dogs and learn quickly. I own 2 Sibes as well and they are far more stubborn than my JS. Sorry to hear you had a not-so-nice experience, Rosie! Being a companion breed, the Japanese Spitz is a dog that thrives on interaction with its family - so I would definately consider it to be a 'family dog'. Having said that, I think some breeders prefer not to sell pups to homes with very young children (ie 5 and under). I have no children of my own, so cannot give you any first-hand advice - sorry! If you are still interested, feel free to drop me a PM as I can give you the contact details of a lovely breeder who would be more than happy to tell you more about these wonderful little dogs Oh and just because I can, here are a few pics of my boy taken just recently at 6.5 months of age
