They are a Spitz breed, so you have to take that into account (although you've owned Sibes so I think you're well prepared! ). They are very intelligent but can definately have an independant streak. My boy (he is 13 months old) was great as a puppy, took to crate training like a duck to water, was not particularly difficult to house train. He is not a fussy eater at all. He is a very hyperactive little energiser bunny and unfortunately he can be a bit noisy!! Having said that I know quite a few JS and the 'yappy' ones are definately in the minority. My boy loves other dogs and people. They should not be timid, they are a bold and confident little dog. As others have said though, early socialisation is very important with this breed and you do need to be firm with them. If you want a big Spitz personality in a small body, Jap Spitz is perfect I know there are a few who are doing (or have done) obedience and agility, I'm not aware of any competing in flyball. I'm hoping to have a go at Lure Coursing with my boy this year. I've got 2 Sibes and I would definately rate my JS as more trainable than my Sibes I agree :D

They are fairly similar in price I pay about $1.70 for a 3-pack of sardines in oil (total weight 375g), and the Fish For Dogs is around $1.50 per can (400g). I only give the tinned food to my dogs fairly occassionally as they get sardines/mackerel with their dry food several times a week anyway, but they seem to enjoy it as a treat. I'm generally not a fan of tinned dog food but the ingredients list doesn't look too bad. This is the 'Choice Sardines' flavour, the others are much the same. Ingredients: Oceanfish including Sardines and Tuna, Chicken Mince, Vegetables (Peas, Carrots), Rice, Gelling Agents, Vitamins & Minerals.

The labelling says 'Product of Thailand'. The human-grade mackerel and sardines I buy for my dogs also say 'Product of Thailand'.

I have given it to my dogs as an occassional treat with their dry food, they seem to really like it.

New Championship Title For Neutered Dogs
Miss B replied to capanash's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it's a great idea, but I do hope that more clubs will offer neuter classes. No point having a title if there's no way to earn it -
Japanese Spitz are very intelligent, but can also be very stubborn. I definately agree with the idea of some obedience lessons, or a professional behaviourist

When it comes to temperament, how much do you feel is nature vs nurture? How important is temperament to you in your breeding program?

Man Operates On His Own Dog Because Vet Too Expensive
Miss B replied to Parkeyre's topic in In The News
Not all vets offer the same level of service though. Some include pre-anaesthetic blood testing, others don't. Some include intravenous fluids, others don't. Some use a better quality anaesthetic and have all patients monitered throughout the surgery by trained nurses... others don't. The most important thing is to find out not just the price but what exactly you are getting for your money -
Ahhh ok, I see Thanks!

I will be at the Sunshine Coast show, you are welcome to hang out in my gazebo (in exchange for Luuka cuddles of course ). I camp where possible. And you don't have to get a suit - I wear a pair of black dress pants and a nice top.

No, not at night.

I'd chip straight away.

That would be great if you get a chance Well then, I must have missed it I have only been a CCC member for just over 12 months and don't recall seeing it any DogWorld in that time. But thanks. Ok, thanks. Interesting. I'm not quite sure I can see the point of it.

I just noticed a form on the Dogs QLD website which is an application for an 'Open Show Achievement Award'. What on earth is it? I've never heard of it before.

How so? No dog should ever be left unsupervised for 3 days. If an owner is away and the dog is being looked after by someone, then presumably the dog is being fed/watered and checked on at least once a day. This would give the carer ample opportunity to notice the dog missing and get in touch with council within 3 working days. You're presuming that someone is looking after the dog instead of dumping it in the cages outside the pound. I was an involuntary carer. Perhaps I should have dumped the dog and gone to Sydney like I was supposed to. I'm confused, I don't think I understand the situation you are describing? Sorry.

Some time ago, I found a website which allowed you to calculate a COI by entering the pedigree into an online form. Does anyone know where I can find one of these calculators??
