The 450D is better than the 1000D. The 1000D is the most entry level DSLR out of Canon's range. Are you looking to buy just the body or body + lenses? That will dictate price. Roughly though, Body only 1000D is $700, 450D is $900. 450D + dual kit lens: $1200-1300 1000D + dual kit lens: $1100 Another that is worth a look at is the new 500D. It has HD video which is pretty cool. But it's quite a bit more. $1500 body only $2000 with lens If those prices in your post are with lenses, you're doing well for price. Others might know where to get them cheaper, but I just went to my usual camera websites and had a look.

Is there any rule about the photo being taken after you received your box??? I have two photos in mind for the 'black' brief... but they were taken back in July. Does that matter?

Formal Heeling On The Other Side
TerraNik replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's ok... My dogs can do all that stuff already. I'm not into dancing with dogs though. I was just trying to think of a competition application for both side heeling. The OP might find it helpful though. We already do enough to keep us suitably busy! (ie. All other eligible sports except HTM and DWD!) -
Me too.

Formal Heeling On The Other Side
TerraNik replied to Staranais's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I did it, but only because of agility... Jedi only knew my left side and he would refuse to go anywhere near my right! It was a really interesting experience! It was like I only had one half of me and the other side was a no-go zone!! I went home that night and taught "close" (right side heeling) and the next time we went to agility he was able to work on my right. I hardly ever practice it with Jedi because I want left side heelwork to be the most reinforcing for him. You don't need it for Rally-O. The dog is always on your left. The only thing I could think it would be 'useful' for competition-wise is Heelwork to Music/Dancing with Dogs. -
Hi TerraNik Is that the famous Jedi who is trialling in CCD at the moment??? My mittels love my cat.My cat loves my mittels as she used to supervise them when they were babies. Some do have a high prey drive I guess but they really dont want to hurt the cat ..they want to play and they generally end up licking and grooming each other. But then my cat is pretty special. My obedience boy adores other dogs and people etc etc . None of my dogs have had a bad experience so I do think it is in their nature to be accepting ...however they are territorial when at home and in the car but that is not unsusual and that is OK by me !! Famous? I don't know about that! But yep, that's my Jedi. Aww I think I might just have to add a Mittel to my list!!!!

HAHAH!!!!!!!!! "I WANT TO SUCK YOUR BLOOOOD!"
-
That's the reasoning behind the method Leslie Nelson uses to deliver rewards to dogs that have just recalled nicely. She calls it "fine dining". You can give them a lump of meat, which is all well and good but it will be gone in a second, or you can crouch in front of them and break the meat up into little pieces and feed them one at a time, cooing over how wonderful your dog is, and that can take ten seconds or more. She thinks it feels like a bigger reward to the dog, even if it's the same amount of meat. That's exactly why I don't give a jackpot as a "pile" of treats. I always give one at a time.

I think it would largely depend on the personality of the dog rather than the sex. So if you want an outgoing or a shy dog, you're best off talking to the breeder about the personalities of the puppies. But, for what it's worth - Ahsoka is very in-your-face outgoing. She's crazy and super excitable with a lot of drive. But she has a lot more 'go' than most lappies. She was super confident as a pup - nothing phased her, but she just went through a massive fear period so she was quite shy of some things for a little while (random objects like stainless steel bowls, agility jumps, etc. Never people-shy). She's just coming out of it now and she's super confident again. It's true what Corvus said though! We were deciding between a Samoyed, a JS and a Lappie. We had met a JS... I wasn't overly keen. We'd met a Samoyed... again, not overly keen. We met two very young lapphunds (4-6 months old) and within 1 minute of knowing them we were SOLD. The two pups climbed into my lap simultaneously and proceeded to snuggle up against my chest! It was the most beautiful moment I had ever had with a dog! That afternoon we started contacting breeders... And now I get those gorgeous cuddles every day from Miss Soaks.

He looks so serious going over that jump!! Agility is serious business!

At my instructor course we had a talk by Peta Clarke and she spoke about jackpots... She's looked into the subject and all of the studies show that it is only useful to motivate the dog - it doesn't actually 'capture' the better behaviour. But, like me, she says that she uses them anyway because it makes her feel better! And hey, it can't hurt!!
-
I love Mittels!!!! How do they do with other animals? Cats, etc?
-
Yep. I jackpot by giving treats in rapid succession (one by one, not just given in a handful). Usually about 5-10 treats. I use them when I want to: a) increase motivation (jackpot used randomly) b) signal that what they did was closer than the other things they have been doing. This works really, really well for Jedi.

Fingers crossed!!!!

That happened with my Finnish Lapphund!! A little TOO keen sometimes!!
-
I don't think either of my two would do it!! They're not very big on jumping into a big body of water!!!! They're more of a slowly wade in from the shore kinda dogs...! I'd love to come and watch training though... And try my hand at taking (crappy) photos!?! Would they let the general public come watch?
-
Wow... That's so far!!!!!!!
-
Oh noes!!
-
Great shots!! Pity about him not being selected, but you do have a point about being able to enjoy the weekend without him! Poor Chopper!
-
It's actually not a lampshade... it's Jedi's E-collar put on backwards!!!! He is quite tiny under all that fur, so it easily slips on and off.
-
Wow... That's a lot of water!!
