Trialling Males Or Females?.
TerraNik replied to Longcoat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tali, I think it must be a male desexed Keeshond thing... Sounds just like Jedi. I don't know why there aren't more Kees in the ring! They are so much fun to work with! -

Trialling Males Or Females?.
TerraNik replied to Longcoat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have one dog (desexed) and one bitch (entire). Being different breeds and personalities it's hard to identify whether it's gender-related or not, but my next trialling dog will be a bitch. Don't know why! Plus, I don't really want an entire dog in the house with my entire bitch here! Too much hassle. -
Great shots everyone!! Here's mine for Week 3... "Tell me when summer's over!"

Not the best lens to use for action shots?? I'd disagree there! It's my FAV for action shots! Just need more light so you can up the shutter speed I really like the composition of the 5th shot! LOVE the photo of Asha, Bec!! So cute with the duckies!! -

Yep, it was a Woofenpup tripod. Voice activated. Able to survive bumps from the dogs. :D I set up the camera, told her where to stand and used her as a tripod. I got in position with Charlie and then I said "go" and she just held down the button (it was on continuous shooting). Some might argue that it's not a self-portrait because she pushed the button, but really it was no different to having my wireless remote and a tripod and much safer for my camera!! :D Lovely SP, Shell!!!!!!!! Love the eyes! -

Ahh crap. I haven't done my photo yet today! This is the problem about doing SP's - I can't just snap a shot of the dogs before I go to bed!! I've had a LONNNNNG day... Working at the Big Day Out today as a medic, so was run off my feet and then went straight to a party (thankfully left early!). Can't see that tonight's will be anything inspired! WS - love your viking shot!! Bet your OH loved it! Bec - nice shot of your friend! The beanie really suits her! -
+1 I think that's where people go wrong with Cesar - they think the TV program shows them enough information and background to go home and try it on their non-behavioural issue dog. I am not really a fan of any TV-based dog training show for that very reason. There are SO many other books and DVDs out there that provide more useful and sufficient information for the average owner and their dog who doesn't yet have any major issues. Of course, going to an obedience club is ideal so that you can get some one-on-one advice when needed.

Long Line Recommendations
TerraNik replied to Oscar (AmBull)'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Some recommend horse lunge lines (get them from horse-related shops). I have tracking long lines from Blackdog but they're quite expensive. They're very strong though and great quality. I also have another long line that's very light and thin so nice for the dog. It's from airdogs.com.au - just gotta be careful not to get rope burn with that one! -

What Are You Working On With Your Dogs.
TerraNik replied to whitka's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ahsoka - Full flyball runs (we only have one jump left to add) - Duration heelwork - SFE - Stays without her vocalising - Tracking basics - Dumbell retrieve without throwing it at me on the return Jedi - Getting him aware of the ball for flyball - the boy's oblivious! But does beautiful full runs without the ball. - Scent work for OB - Retrieve dumbell over jump - Random tricks like summersaults, walking handstands and more upright and hindlegs stuff -
Well they'll be the ones missing out then! It's great fun!

Nice shots, Bec!! Here's mine... Feeling really tired tonight, so effort was pretty low! Day 020 -
I chose "other undesirable behaviour" - being that Ahsoka gets too excited when other dogs are nearby (only single dogs when we're at the park. She is fine with dogs in great numbers). It's slowly decreasing with the training I'm doing with her. She does also have a bit of an issue with lead walking (gentle pulling) but this is also improving significantly. My other dog has absolutely no undesirable behaviours.
