  1. I don't own either, but I do own a Keeshond which has a similar coat to the JS and GS. The above poster has a point - hopefully you've thought about that and have decided you're ok with the grooming requirements if you are taking the dog out onto acres. If your property has burrs and grass seeds, you will need to groom this dog daily to remove any grass seeds in particular (but also burrs will be a problem) as they can end up in costly vet bills to remove them if they dig into the skin. My Keeshond got out onto a friend's acres and when he came back I had to spend the next 5 hours grooming him - 1 hour to remove the burrs, 4 hours to line comb him to find all the grass seeds. I'm not saying don't get one of these breeds, just be aware of the extra requirements compared to a short coated breed.
  2. We had a ball at Walcha this weekend! The weather was interesting, but we had a lot of fun despite that and Sunday turned into a glorious sunny day! Jedi managed Best Neuter in Show on the Friday AND the Sunday Our last neuter show for the year is this weekend coming - the Erskine Park Christmas Show
  3. DIRECTED SENDAWAY AND RECALL Maximum Points 30 Principal Feature: The dog, on command, to leave the Handler and go to the Nominated Area as directed, to sit, and to come as directed. Description of Exercise: The dog on command is to be sent away to the Nominated Area and sit as directed, then recalled to heel and continue heeling with the Handler as ordered by the Judge. Simultaneous command and signal is permitted. The Judge will nominate an area, which will be positioned no closer than three (3) metres from any edge of the ring. The Handler will take up a position indicated by the Judge at approximately twenty five (25) metres from the Nominated Area. The Handler shall stand the dog in the position indicated by the Judge. The Judge will then order “Send”. The Handler will give the dog the direction to the Nominated area with a single motion of either the left or right hand and arm. The Handler may bend the body and knees to the extent necessary in giving the direction to the dog. The command to send will be given either simultaneously with, or immediately after the giving of the direction, after which the Handler will stand erect in a natural position. The dog must go directly to the Nominated Area at a brisk pace. Once the dog is in the Nominated Area, it may sit automatically or the Handler may attract the dog’s attention by using its’ name before giving a command to sit. The Judge will order the Handler to move ‘Forward’ ‘About Turn’ and then perform a ‘Right’ or ‘Left’ Turn. The Judge will order the Handler to ‘Call (Call your Dog)’ either before or after the ‘About Turn’. The Handler must be given the ‘About Turn’ no closer than ten (10) metres from the Nominated area. Orders from Judge: ‘Take up Position’, ‘Send’ (Send your Dog)’. ‘Forward’, ‘About Turn’, ‘Call’ (Call your Dog)’, ‘Left or Right Turn’, ‘Halt’, ‘Exercise Finished’. Deductions: Zero Score: For a dog which needs more than one command to leave the Handler, fails to enter the Nominated Area, fails to sit where sent, fails to go the required distance. For the Handler giving a command to sit whilst the dog is outside the Nominated Area, for a dog that fails to come on the first command or anticipates any part of the Principal Feature. Substantial: If a dog is slow going out, slow response to commands, does not go directly to the Nominated Area, sits entirely outside the Nominated Area after having entered it, does not return to the Handler at a brisk pace, or fails to heel with the Handler after being recalled. Minor: For imperfections in heeling and for failure to carry out any of the lesser points of the exercise.
  4. Jedi is nailing some really nice tough entries on the weaves now! Soaks though is getting frustrated when she makes an error with the entries (think 4 year old tantrum!) so I'm going to go back a few steps to just one set of poles and really work her entries where she only has one lot of poles to choose from! Hopefully I can build her confidence up a bit. I knew she'd be a challenge!
  5. I hope you don't forget a dog... You can't just go pick one of those up at the supermarket!!! I'm getting stuff organised, too... Gotta love packing!
  6. The weather... Friday 18-23 Thunderstorms (70% chance of rain) Saturday 15-25 Clearing shower (10% chance of rain) Sunday 11-25 Late shower (10% chance of rain)
  7. I remember you posted a diagram before with the turns footwork which I found really helpful Here it is again
  8. Footwork is one of the most important things to do with heelwork that a lot of people miss. Once you have a consistent footwork pattern, the communication to your dog is much more effective! It was the difference between sloppy heelwork with messy, slow turns to consistently nice heelwork and tight turns for Jedi.
  9. Here you go.... "Do you want a bone?!!!!" And Soakies...

  13. Well no doubt I'll have the only neutered Keeshond there (unless of course I hit the jackpot at Walcha and there's another!!!!!!)... So come and say hello! (Shell will also be there with her husky, Zero. So I'm sure we'll stand out :D )
  14. I'm really looking forward to it, though I hope it doesn't rain much...
  15. Congrats TerraNik - I think I must have been standing next to you in the Generals Specials line up... Am loving the Neuter classes and will definitely send an entry off for the Hawkesbury show! Our next one is the Xmas show at EP. Hopefully more shows start holding the classes. You must've had the dobe!!!! We'll be at the Christmas show too - I love that show and am so excited that Jedi can now be part of it!
  16. The calendars are for sale at cost - there is/was no profit made.
  17. Me we won't be there for Friday but we'll head up Friday night and show Sat/Sun...see you there Yay! Hopefully this time I'll get to say hello!
  18. So is anyone else going to Walcha this weekend?
  19. :D Thanks... I wish Soaks would listen to that! I am really struggling with her dumbbell work!
  20. Jedi is now weaving 4 straight poles! I'm so excited for him! We still need to work on his party trick entries (thanks ness - love that term!) but he is getting there! We won't be moving any further until he's got that down pat. Soaks is moving at a slower pace but I am really happy with the level of drive she's showing. We're just working on her entries until they are really spot on.
  21. Congratulations to Bronte, Poppy and Zig!
  22. We're already entered crlbrk1!! Really looking forward to that one! Jedi had a great day today -- he took our Best Neuter in Group at the Ladies Kennel Assoc show! I'm so proud of him!
