  1. We have one of these... Jedi loves it! We also have one of Periau's (sp?) tuggers. EDT - I think we got the orange tugger from the Castle Hill Homemaker Centre pet shop... Pet 2000 or something like that it's call. The one with Ned, the newfie.
  2. I use petdeli, but the free delivery thing isn't going to help as you're not in Sydney...
  3. I have nothing as cool as passes in trials to brag about - but I just wanted to say Reddii I love your avatar! My little brag.. Jedi is on a graduating spree! Since we started obedience training at the local club (about 3 months ago), Jedi has graduated each week to the next level! The dogs must be able to do each of the commands before they can move up to the next class. At this rate he will be in the advanced classes before he turns 6 months!! No doubt he'll hit a wall soon, but for now I am one proud mamma!
  4. Jedi gets sent outside to his pool or his outside water bowl for that very same reason BB! However when he then comes in covered in mud....
  5. I had the same problem with Jedi and whenever he pulled I made like a tree and stood still. Then got him to come back to my side by calling him back. As soon as he got there I would start walking again as his reward. It took a little while, but now when he hits the end of the lead he just comes back to my side automatically.
  6. Wow... Sorry I don't have much to say about the issues between your two dogs.. I will let someone more experienced with these issues reply to that one, but it sounds like an awful situation for you. With regards to the sleeping thing. I would continue with the pup in his crate in your bedroom. There's nothing stopping you from later on moving him out of the bedroom once he has settled down and is a little older. Lots of people have been successful with doing that. That was our goal, but we then decided that we preferred him in our bedroom!!! I hope someone has some good advice for you...
  7. There was another thread about this a little while ago.. Let me find it. Here we are... http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=138599 A couple of good suggestions for you there.

    Satu

    RIP Satu... sweet dreams.
  9. I wouldn't change her drop command to something else if she knows it now. There are plenty of other words you can use to give something out of her mouth... We use "give". For drop we use "down", but that's just personal preference. Try not to use two words for commands such as "lie down" - you want short, snappy words (that don't sound like something else). What else can you teach her? Have you started doing lead training? If not, I would start that with her. I would also be teaching her recall ("Come!"). Never call her when you want her to come inside (always go get her) and always make it the happiest thing ever that she came to you. A fun game when they are little is to play puppy ping-pong. You have another person and you stand a few metres apart and take turns calling her. She should run between the two of you and each time she comes, give her a treat and a mega fun tummy rub or something that she loves. She'll soon learn that coming means good stuff!!!
  10. When Jedi was mouthing, we felt like nothing was working, but persevered with making noises and walking away. He never really stopped until he was about 17 weeks old... Something must have clicked one day and now he doesn't do it! We tried a range of things: - yelp and walk away - putting our hand to the back of his jaw so that he couldn't bite - putting a toy in his mouth instead So if it's anything like us, just some patience helps... It sucks and I still have the scars on my hands from the puncture wounds!! But, you'll get there. EDT - we're about to start this all over again with our new pup coming in 2 weeks!! Looks like those scars aren't going to go away for a little while yet...
  11. I think the pet store at Castle Hill Homemakers has it... The store that has Ned, the Newfie.
  12. Let us know how you go!!
  13. I would definitely go for the local dog club... If you're at all worried or whatever, go and watch one day without Ruby. That way you can see if it's what you had in mind. Any good club will let you do that.
  14. Thanks! It's one of my favs... Jedi has the kitty version of Mistral's duck... He didn't know what to make of it to begin with, but now loves it. We're getting Ahsoka the monkey one! (Any excuse for buying more toys!!)
  15. We were getting up every 2-3 hours for Jedi when he was 8 weeks old. By about 11 weeks he was sleeping through the night.
  16. Jedi has the Nylabone keys... It's so cute when he carries them around!!! None of the other specific chew toys we bought him ever got any attention. This is the only one he'll chew on.
  17. I got the cuddle toy online and the dumbbell at BigW (of all places!)
  18. I don't know what type of puppy you have, but could she be cold? Has she got a hot water bottle or similar in there with her (warm, not hot)? How long has she been in there?
  19. Jedi has a Puppy Cuddle Pal which is the one that has heat beads in it. We never used it as a soothing toy for him, he just chews it and shakes it, etc. It's good for teaching fetch (putting food inside it and they bring it back so you can get the food out for them!). I also just bought the soft dumbbell thing which he likes as well. I haven't tried any others.
  20. We got a lot of our toys from Vetnpetdirect and TheVetShed. The Vet Shed have these cool toys like a cat that meows and a parrot that quarks! They are a HUGE hit!!!!!!
  21. Awww Periau!!! Keep doing what you're doing... Be strong and don't give in... It's awful, awful, awful but you don't want to teach puppy that howling will make good things happen!! Has pup got some toys to cuddle with? Or maybe a little snack or something for distraction? It helped when Jedi was in the crate that he could see us... Would that help?
  22. Lots of stuffed toys! They are a big hit in our household! Especially ones with a squeaker. Also rope toys and the holey roller are high up in the top ranked toys too. Oh and of course Bad Cuz!
  23. Aimee - I replied in your other thread
  24. Good on you for wanting to continue her training!! Ruby is a cutie! The course you describe sounds like a 'professional' (read: expensive) course?? I don't know where you live, but have you tried looking into one of the local dog clubs instead? Usually they are much cheaper (around $30/year and $3-4 per week) and have similar opportunities. They also usually accept dogs every week (or every 2nd) depending on where you go. That way you wouldn't have to wait. In terms of a 'good age', I am a firm believer that no dog is too young to start. Personally I wouldn't want to wait the 7 weeks, unless you'll be doing lots of training at home during that 7 weeks. Then again, 16 weeks is not 'too late' either by any means, so it is up to you. EDT (I didn't answer your other questions!) - Jedi and I attend obedience class weekly and it's going well! He is rocketing through the class levels... I'm waiting for us to hit a brick wall soon! At the moment we're working on finding heel from anywhere, heel in a circle on the spot, heel in a large circle, verbal only commands, stand-stay, sit-stay and down-stay (all on lead), lots of recalls. Jed and I are also doing trick training at home for fun.
