  1. I currently have (read: stole from OH) a Canon 18-200mm IS 3.5-5.6 lens and took it for a red hot spin at the Flyball Nationals this weekend. I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with the sharpness of the photos (I think I'm spoiled by my 50mm! ). I'm keen on doing more dog sport photography for a bit of fun so started looking at other lenses... Is it worth the upgrade to something like the 70-200mm f2.8 or the 100-400? Or would there be minimal difference in the sharpness and general quality of the shot? I should add though, I wasn't using a tripod but I also wasn't using the full zoom either and I have a pretty steady hand. Most shots were around 120-150mm.
  2. Looks like reverse sneezing to me which is pretty normal in dogs. Due to nasal or throat irritation.
  3. Mine are fine with the normal nail trimmers too, but my guys have black nails so I'm trimming blind!!!! Both pups and I are much more relaxed with the dremel!! You can tell how close you are getting to the kwik which is great!
  4. Thanks... Yeah Jedi was doing 'beg'... He has a new trick - "How does Ahsoka beg?" (she sticks both paws straight up in the air... he was trying to do that ) I thought I should update the siggy - they looked so young!!!!!! Leo and Kinta have great tricks too!!!! I love the beer retrieve
  5. Great!! Licking is a step toward putting it in her mouth! Is she clicker trained? I would try shaping... Start shaping the lick and then raise your criteria for a bit of teeth action, then into the mouth, etc.
  6. Congrats Seita and LP!!!!!!! Fantastic scores!!!!!!!!!!
  7. The hardest thing for me to train was the dumbbell... I feel your pain!!!!!!! Jedi didn't want a bar of it - he would hold it in his mouth for less than half a second before spitting it out. We stayed at that stage for MONTHS! It was soul destroying!! What method have you been using to teach her up to now? Have you tried making the dumbbell a little more 'tasty' with some food rubbed on it? Have you tried a different type of dumbbell (plastic vs wood)? --> this worked for me! changed to wood and the world was a better place Have you tried waving it around like a toy on the ground to get Jess excited about it? I know this isn't what you're 'supposed to do' but you gotta get the dog's interest somehow initially. Again, this worked for me. I stopped doing it once he had started actively reaching for it himself. Have you tried using another object altogether to teach the cues? Like a stick or a toy? Just a few thoughts..
  8. Go Chopper!!!!!!! Is he getting better distances now? LOVE the photos!!!!!! Brilliant!
  9. I'm keeping an eye on this thread!! I hope Ivan's okay!!
  10. I can't wait!! I'm going to watch and take some photos.
  11. Oh and to add to that - always put the lead back on your dog before you leave the ring!! (you will have just finished your recall with your dog off lead)
  12. Yep, I don't even look at the judge when they are asking me that. The entire time before an exercise I am looking at my dog, keeping eye contact and occasionally talking to him. When the judge asks if we're ready, I reply "We're ready" but I am still looking at my dog until we start heeling off.
  13. Ooh I'd like to hear the answers to this...
  14. Here's a recent thread with ideas http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...3&hl=treats
  15. Jedi 1. Jedi had a hard start to life When Jedi was born he was the smallest of his litter and needed to be bottle fed by his breeder for the first little while to keep him up to speed with his brothers and sisters. From then on he was named 'Little Jake' by his breeder. When we got him we renamed him, Jedi but his registered name still reflects his initial struggle in life - "Sandstock Littel Jake" 2. Jedi came pre-trained Since Jedi joined us at 8 weeks old, I have been astounded at how quickly he learns. If Jedi needs to learn a new trick, one click&treat and he's performing the trick as if he learned it months earlier. Case in point - he had his first night at flyball and after 10-15 minutes of training Jedi was doing full runs (without the ball) including a swimmer's turn. I always joke that he is "pre-trained". 3. Jedi is my heart dog I never really understood this concept until I met Jedi. We have such an amazing bond and words cannot express how I feel about him. I cannot imagine my life without him. He's my special little man and I love him to pieces. I get little tearies just thinking about him. How embarrassing! 4. Jedi doesn't do toys As a puppy Jedi loved toys and would play with them all the time. And then Ahsoka happened. Since then, Jedi stopped playing with toys, balls and playing tug. These things belong to Ahsoka and Ahsoka alone! Instead, Jedi much prefers to do some training, go for a walk or a swim or have a good wrestle with me or Soaks. 5. Jedi loves the paparazzi Whenever Jedi sees the camera come out he gets very excited! Of an evening he will often run into the 'photography room' waiting for me to dress him up and take his photo! He has been SO disappointed lately when I haven't had enough time to do any 'special' shots with him. Don't tell Jedi, but I have a special surprise for him on Halloween. 6. Jedi is really a Border Collie Jedi is a pretty special Keeshond... He herds sheep! It's not very common for Keeshonds to be involved in herding, but Jedi has taken to it with gusto! In fact, he is the only herding Keeshond in NSW and the second in the entire country! 7. I wouldn't know if our doorbell worked... With Jedi around, there is no need for guests to ring the doorbell! Jedi is a fantastic watchdog who will alert us to any visitors well before they get to the door! It's quite handy! 8. Jedi the Pirate Hunter! Being a Keeshond (Dutch Barge Dog), Jedi loves to go out on the rowing or sailing boat on the lake. He will perch his front paws up on the edge of the boat, ready to alert us to any pirates about! 9. Jedi is my shadow Wherever I am in the house, Jedi comes with me. This includes into the bathroom when having a shower, in the toilet, bedroom, study, you name it! While I am gone Jedi will ask my partner to open every door of the house so that he can 'find' me. When he realises I'm not there, he goes and has a nap waiting for my return. 10. Jedi can really put on a 'sad face' Jedi will often look up at you with big googly eyes when he wants something... And to really put on the charm, he quivers his lower lip. It's hard to resist!
  16. Mmmm I still need to vacuum dog hair off the carpet at least once per week, but that could be my keeshond's doing!!! Haha!!! But in saying that, the hair only sits ON the carpet and doesn't dig in... It's much easier to get off even with your hand. Clothes are the same - you're completely clear with one swipe of a sticky roller or a wet hand.
