  1. I had a silky terrier cross growing up and we always clipped her, because of the fact that she was such an active dog and spent her days hunting lizzards in the garden she would always end up with with twigs, burs and matted knots when her fur was left long. I remember once getting abused by an old lady about her cut fur as well, she started telling me that if I lived in england I would have been arrested. That lady was definately a bit of a crazy though.
  2. Gosh guys my stomach dropped when I read hip displasia. I'll definately get him checked out asap, I realy hope that isn't the case. My poor boy suffers enough with his skin issues let alone ending up with that as well. Hehe i'm glad you enjoyed it.
  3. Thank's for the input guys! Hehe he's such a sook, as soon as he reached me in the video he gave me a lick on the cheek and plonked himself into my lap. (as always) Yes he prefers to do a quick trot or run. He's almost two. :Edited to add - No never seen a chiropractor, any recommendations?
  4. Tyson has a real waddle to his walk, has ever since he was a pup. I've never thought much of it but i've had people at the park comment on how he 'walks funny' and ask if there's something wrong with him. He only waddles when walking at a slow pace, he doesn't when he goes into a trot or run so i've been feeling realy guilty when I make him heel at my pace because it appears to be quite cumbersome for him. ;) I took a video to try and give you guys an example. Does anyone elses dog walk like this? I was thinking it may just be because he was wide set back legs or something, I don't know.
  5. I guess that's the plus of owning a mutt of unknown heritage, people come up with all different types of breeds they think he is and I just shrug and say 'could be'.
  6. My old dog nearly died when he ate a dead mouse that had been poisoned, poor boy had to get his stomach pumped and it was done only just in the nick of time. The vet said it was lucky we brought him in straight away, a few minuites longer and he would have been dead. (he was a jack russell)
  7. Okay this is more stupid than anything else, I was blowing bubbles for the dogs and they were jumping up and catching them, suddenly I thought to myself 'I hope it doesn't taste bad for them' and went ahead and licked the end of the bubble blower to find out. Straight away I thought 'oh crap what have I done, this tastes toxic!' and shoved my tongue under the tap whilst calling out to my mother to read the packaging label. Sure enough it was toxic, how's that for a way of finding out! (I didn't manage to get sick from it since I rinsed it all out but no more bubble chasing for the dogs!)
  8. Being raised to accept kids and being suitable/ideal to be raised in a home with children are NOT the same thing. Breed does matter, and to imagine that a dog being a combination of breeds will somehow overide this fact, is fanciful. BUT it's way too hot today, so I'm off to the beach and I'm sure another DOLer will come along and fill in the blanks ;) Hmm well Tyson resembles a stafford am I right? Staffords are supposed to be high drive, high energy dogs that love nothing more than a good tugging match yes? Tyson is too lazy to even chase a ball let alone tug on the spring pole I constructed for him after researching the breed he resembles the most.
  9. I got Tyson as a rescue pup without any knowledge of his breeds, my only requirement was that he was good with cats and motivated enough for training and he fit the bill. I don't see breeds being THAT big of a deal when getting a mutt, and if she's raising it from a pup it can be raised to accept kids etc. What you can't avoid of course is health issues that arise with poorly bred dogs, that's just something you're going to have to accept if you're going to get a rescue pup.
  10. Hehe perfect topic for me to post on, I love Tysons eyes. :D
  11. I remember watching a video of someone who had a pure bred black and white American Staffordshire Terrier and the test came back saying he was a border collie.
  12. It makes me wonder why you'd want to name your dog after a someone convicted of rape, criminal assault and with a history of spousal abuse and very poor record of dog ownership. Uh he was a rescue dog and that's the name he came with.... I also don't know who you are refering to as the rapist and such (I have no interest in celebrities or whoever you are referring to), but last time I checked there was more that one person on this earth with that name. I happen to like the name, it is a french name so I like the sound of it, I have a few friends with that name does that mean they must be rapists also?!..
  13. so you think a dogs behavior is decided by its name...? I never do but I do think that the choice of a dogs name can say a lot about the owners. My dog's name is Tyson, does that make me a bad dog owner?
  14. Me with Tyson, I love how he's smiling for the camera.
  15. Favoury Tyson Pixie made an adorable pup but I dont have any of her baby pics on this computer.
  16. Im interested as to how the breed assesment determined the dog was an amstaff when the only difference between them and pitbulls are the papers.
  17. I remember being told alot of staffies cant swim because their back legs are so wide set... Or something..
  18. Well if you look at it in his perspective it must be pretty terrifying being a defensless puppy left all on his own. In the wild if a pup ever got separated from their pack they're as good as dead! So realy its kind of like a survival instict to cry out for help. What ive done when ive have puppies is set up a puppy pen with newspaper and a dog bed right next to my bed, that way the puppy knows he's not alone and feels safe and i can just reach my hand down to reassure him.
