  1. I feel your pain. I was in a similar situation, I took on two puppies from a litter and my next door neighbour took another. I asked the rescue group if they were to be vet checked and deemed healthy before being given to us and they said yes... Not only do both the pups come down with kennel cough, which we weren't allowed to take them to the vet for since they had to be taken to the groups own specified vet which was hours away, but I get a call a from the rescue group telling me that a pup in the litter had gotten parvo and I had to watch the puppies we had to see if they showed any signs of it too. Myself and my family were a nervous wreck, nobody had warned us of this and our dogs are only ever vaccinated 3 yearly. Turns out the puppy that got parvo was the one that went next door, poor pup ended up dyeing. We called the rescue group to collect the pups we had asap, we didn't sign up for putting our own dogs at risk like that, plus their kennel cough was continuing to get worse. What perplexes me is that my neighbours still continue to foster young puppies to this day, wouldn't they be putting the puppies at risk of picking up the virus in that environment? I'm sorry you've had to go through this it's a horrible feeling, especially when you had no warning and were just trying to do the right thing.
  2. For those worried about the baby, she was all smiles when I had returned, I think she was enjoying all the attention. All she had was a little scratch on her nose.
  3. Um, the OP? She said her Mum wasn't strong enough to restrain the dogs. Why is she walking a dog in public then? She was walking Pixie, the 8kg jrt....
  4. Super Chewy to the rescue. You want the weaker person to wade into the middle of a dog fight and save the baby. :p Who's rescuing the old man - or doesn't he rate on your priorities? Who said the OP's mum was weak? Obviously you would attend to the old man when the baby was off the ground. It should not take 2 people to walk 2 dogs to safety. Whilst a baby is on the ground in a deadly situation? No Super Chewys in this town, if there was, a dead friend would still be alive today. I did.
  5. There's no way in hell I would have sent my mother into that situation. I can't believe how many times i've had to explain the fact that the baby's pram fell whilst there were good 10 or so people on the scene and I was already half way up the street.
  6. Will be reporting it, does anyone know who exactly I should be getting in contact with? Would it be the city council?
  7. I have a right to ask questions to the OP. I havent called them names or intentionally insulted them. I am interested in topics like these. How is the job hunting going? Oh yes, calling me a squealing idiot isn't insulting at all. You never questioned me further until after you made a point of how wrong I was and how right you are, and you're kidding yourself from the description you made about what you would have done in that situation. I'm sorry to say but your perception of what happened is so ridiculous it's laughable, the man hit the dog with an iron bar and it didn't even feel it, but you seem to think you could have kicked the dog once and saved the day whilst your dogs proceeded to remain in a perfect sit say, whilst somehow not being targeted by two the dog-aggressive dogs that were moving too fast for TEN people to be able to catch, right... But anyways! Since you seem to think you know everything I don't really think there's any point in me trying to explain myself any further to you.
  8. You need to realise, all that I described happened within a couple of seconds, it's hard for me to try and describe every fine detail as it was all happening at once. The mans family were walking a few steps ahead of him, so they were able to run over straight away when they heard us yell out, as did a few neighbours. At some point the people that owned the dogs must have stopped their car and run over (which must have been when the second dog got out). They were all trying to catch the staffies which were weaving around which caused the pram to fall forward. I realised since they were trying to get the swf away from the staffies that my dogs would have been the next target if I were to stick around, and I was right because as I was running half way up the street one of the staffies had started coming after us. It's lucky I left when I did or the situation could have potentially been a lot worse.
  9. My Mum would not have been strong enough to hold Tyson... My mum tried to walk over to the man whilst still having Pixie on lead with her! I yelled at her to get back and come to me and by that time there were more than enough people there trying to control the situation. I'm sorry but my number one priority is protecting my own dogs. I consider human life, especially a baby more important than my animals. A BABY face planting the concrete in a pram with heightened dog behaviour surrounding it would turn on my overdrive ESPECIALLY when there were 2 adults with 2 dogs on lead who could have worked out a plan instead of squealing off down the road. If your mother was fit enough to run off, maybe you should have squealed off home and sent your mother to assist. geez it's so easy to judge someone else when you haven't been in that position yourself. I'm just glad opinions are just that, hopefully the OP knows this as well. I have been in worse That's all well and good for you to say, but you weren't in this situation. Why should you have expected her to help when there were already half a dozen other neighbours rushing to help? A it was told, the baby "faceplanted" after people were already coming to help. What more could she have done? Better to clear yourself of the area if there's nothing more you can do. Especially (emphasis on this) when she said that one of the staffies was coming after her dogs. To hell with human life when DOG-AGGRESSIVE dogs are coming after your dog. The baby probably only got scratches, whereas her dogs could have been killed. Putting you in this situation, you would have gone over with your dogs, and only exacerbated the problem. She did the right thing that was called for this situation, so don't you put her down for it. Nooooooo, I would not have taken my dogs. I would have given them to the person with me and told them NOT to run or squak whilst running. I would have got the baby off ground level and kicked the dog to high heaven if it approached me. If I was on my own, (the OP was not) I would have unclipped my dogs and told them to stay (they may or may not have done this under the stressful situation) and I would have got the baby off the ground first, then attended to anything else. By the time the baby face planted they were about 10 neighbours there and I was half way up the street. But thanks for the insight on how miraculously perfect you are and how your heroism alone would have saved the day, maybe one day i'll live up to your glorious example, may I have your autograph? I think we might have a real life super hero on this forum. No, far from perfect, but level. Running backwards squaking down the street with another person is not something I would do. Regardless of the number of people, considering the severity of the incident, one would think you would attend the situation at some point and offer assistance. Lots to do. Catch dogs, assist faceplanted babies, assist x-knocked out men, support distressed owner of window flying dogs, take notes, make phone calls, turn the kettle on, exchange numbers as a witness etc. etc. I did, I ran home to secure my dogs (which was a few houses up) and then ran back again... I know for a fact I did everything I could have done in that situation, but by all means keep whinging and making assumptions all you want my dear.

  13. To be honest I was surprised the dog didn't have any noticeable injuries either, but I wouldn't rule out internal bruising. From what I saw the staffy had the dog pinned to the ground by the throat and was clamping down hard and attempting to shake it. When the second staffy showed up and it clicked that my dogs were in danger too I was more focussed on getting out of there so i'm not sure what happened after that but there was a lot of screaming and commotion going on.
  14. Oh my god... I am in shock right now. I was walking the dogs with my Mum down the street, walking up the opposite side of the street was an old man with a SWF and a pram with a baby. Next thing out of nowhere this little staffy appears and starts trying to kill the SWF. The old man grabbed a big stick that he was carrying with him and tried to whack the dog but with the commotion and the leads tangling under him he fell backwards on to the bitumen and got knocked out. I didn't know what to do cause I had my dogs with us and me and my mum were just screaming and neighbours all started running out to help. Next thing i know there's a second staffy that has joined in, the old man had gotten up again and then one of the staffies knocked the pram over and the baby landed face first on the bitumen. The neighbours had arrived and were trying to help and at this point I realise i've got to get out of of here before my dogs get targeted next. So me and Mum started running as fast as we could back to our house all the while I can hear the baby crying and people screaming and the swf yelping. Mum turned around whilst we were running and saw one of the staffies was coming up the road after us so I was absolutely terrified at this point and ran as fast as I could and got the dogs inside. Once I caught my breath me and mum walked back to see what had happened. There was a very distraught lady crying her eyes out, turns out she was the owner of the dogs and her dogs had jumped out of the car window!! The baby seemed fine and the owners of the staffies were very apologetic and were offering to take the old man to the hospital but he refused. The little swf thankfully seemed to be okay, although very shaken up. After this ordeal I don't think I am game to take my dogs for a walk again. There was nothing that man could have done to stop them, it was just lucky that so many neighbours came out and acted quickly.
  15. Alright, so I was going to come on here to ask about the new flea tablet my vet had told me about, see if anyone has used it and how safe it is etc. but I decided to do a bit of googling instead. I found this site http://elms.xh1.lilly.com/comfortis-product-label.pdf. I've got to say I am pretty distrubed by the sorts of tests they did to determine it's safety. In a margin of safety study, COMFORTIS chewable tablets were administered orally to 6-week-old Beagle puppies at average doses of 1.5, 4.4, and 7.4 times the maximum recommended dose at 28-day intervals over a 6-month period. Vomiting was observed across all groups, including the control. Increased vomiting was observed at elevated doses, usually within 1 hour following administration. In a reproductive safety study, COMFORTIS chewable tablets were administered orally to female Beagles at 1.3 and 4.4 times the maximum recommended therapeutic dose every 28 days prior to mating, during gestation, and during a six-week lactation period. One dam from each treatment group experienced early pregnancy loss and one additional high dose dam aborted late term. The treated dams experienced more vomiting, especially at one hour post-dose, than the control dams. Puppies from dams treated at 1.3 times the maximum recommended therapeutic dose had lower body weights than puppies from control dams. Although puppy mortality between treated and control dams was not different, the puppies from the treated dams experienced more lethargy (4.4X group only), dehydration, weakness and felt cold to the touch (4.4X group only) than puppies from control dams. Needless to say, I don't think i'm going to be using it. Its use it restricted in the US but it's freely available here in Aus.
  16. Oh gosh that is so sad that they are still in that state! We really need to keep on their case about it, anyone that's going there next take pictures if you can. :edited to say: I just realised, the carnage will most likely continue since she removes the mouse that is injured, but not the one that is doing the eating..
  17. Got a reply from the RSPCA. And the Sunnybank Plaza management.
  18. Wish i'd have thought of that, I don't live in the area though so won't really get the chance to go back. Unless they have a phone number/email address somewhere.
  19. Alrighty, reported to the RSPCA. Now to figure out the contact details of the local council.
