  1. Hi Persephone, thanks for this! This is great!! I realise the benefits of a proper BARF diet, but the raw meat (lambs hearts) was not a balanced meal. The things is I want to do the right thing for him as he is so small and is a PUPPY, so am worries that a BARF diet might be good for a fully grown dog, but can't find anything about the benefits for a TINY breed. In related news, I got some Royal Canin for TINY breeds, which he has decided (for today) is YUM! But I will watch this space. Also managed to mixed the nutrigel with warm water and get him to drink some from a syringe - so very happy mum. When is an adult I want him to eat the Billinghurst BARF patties and / or even better the recipe you posted ... Thanks again!!
  2. Yeah thanks every one ... I ahve actually already bought the Gel, so I am going to use it. The vet has advised that it wont "hurt". But I agree that I need to do more research... I just need to find something that he likes AND is good for him!
  3. I just called my vet and discussed the Periactin option with her. She was loath to give him the periactin. She was saying that I should just find something that he LIKES to eat - the problem is that I know what he likes RAW FOOD - but the problem with that it that he was on that but I don't think it is a "balanced" diet and i think it may have caused him to have anal gland problems. So I am going to try him on the Billinghurst BARF (I was leaving this to last as I am not sure if he will eat it and it's not specifically for puppies) and also keep on with the Nutrigel. It is really hard to get it INTO him!!
  4. Thanks guys! Will do. Does it make them hungry though? Should I be giving ti to him a certain amount of time before I feed him???
  5. Howdy All. I am sorry if this has been address, but couldn't find anything conclusive to answer my questions - so here goes! I talked to my breeder yesterday and saw the litter-mate of my puppy. She has reccomended that I try Nutrigel to get my little papillon to EAT more and also help him to get all of those vitamins and minerals into him. I guess what I really want to know (first up) is how do you suggest I feed it to him? It says (somewhere) they they readily want to eat it (does this mean you should be able to hand feed it to them) I offered to him, but he just sniffed and ran away - then I mixed it in with his food.... but I must say it didn't really provoke much interest. ANY ADVICE on how to help my pap get up to weight would be great!
  6. I thought potatos were poisonous for Dogs - why are they reccomending that?
  7. I have been told that the best cones to feed dogs are from the below order in of preference: 1. Chicken/ Poultry 2. Lamb 3. Beef
  8. I agree with this! My puppy has been very picky with his food. I have ended up with Science Diet Puppy in a Can. He seems to like this!!
  9. I feed my pup Royal Canine for Tiny Breeds and Advance for the Adult BC - I am surprised how many people do feed their dog advance. Did not expect to be so popular! I am sad Nutro is no longer being imported - i thought it was a good one!
  10. Shredded newspaper is more absorbent. I had the shredded paper problem, which I counteracted by putting it in a plastic tray device not unlike a puppy training pad holder except with a plastic grill over. http://www.crittercottage.com.au/product.aspx?id=59 I didn't pay 90 bucks for mine though Last pup we used puppy training pads - all I can say is what a waste of money and we are still trying to get the adhesive off the polished wood floors. Newspaper rocks.
  11. I just read the SAFETY DIRECTIONS and it says that it was tested on dogs with 10 times the reccomended dose with no adverse reactions. That makes me feel a bit better....!
  12. I just decided to wash my 14 week old papillion who's white spots had turned decided brown due to digging. After the bath I decided to put a puppy Revolution on him, but forgot that I had consolidated the puppy and cat revolutions into one box. So instead of getting a 0.25 ml dose he got a 0.75 ml dose. I have tried to google and search the forum for some sort of similar thing - to no avail - so does anyone know anything about this? Will he be ok? hrmmmm ...
  13. I am a bit confused also and was worried about the nasal KC vaccination. I ended up getting Astro (papillon) vaccinated with a C4 and the nasal KC today. Only after voicing my concerns (from what I read here) about the Nasal process. The vet convinced me that it was kinder than giving it as part of the injection as it can be quite painful for small puppies. I hope he is ok... He seems ok so far!
  14. My breeder washes the puppies with Baby Shampoo, but I got some FIDO's puppy & kitten - hope that's ok.... It has to be better than the supermarket stuff!
  15. These are like nothing I have seen before... might need to make an investment for my BC.
  16. Aww I went as well... Really wanted to see it!
  17. We go to PADS at Eaton Hill and have been very happy with it. They are also VERY reasonably priced as they are a club - not a business as such! So far we have done the basic obedience and now onto a casual class that they call "Motivation & Control", which continues on from basic obedience as well as meant to get them ready for agility... I will be taking the new puppy to the puppy classes so will have to let you know how we go!! http://www.pads.org.au/ PADS was incorporated in March 2000 following community support for an Dog Agility Club in the north Brisbane area. PADS is affiliated with the Agility Dog Association of Australia (ADAA) and promotes international agility, at every level, to all dogs and their handlers. Since incorporation, PADS has grown to become one of the biggest Agility Dog Clubs in Queensland. Whilst there remains a strong focus on the sport of Dog Agility, PADS also offers classes in Obedience, Motivation & Control, Sheep Herding and has recently introduced PADS Puppy Classes. PADS Puppy Classes - Due to the many inquiries we receive from people with puppies too young for our Basic Obedience classes but keen to learn how to set their pup on the path to being a well behaved Canine Citizen, we are adding PADS Puppy Skool to the classes we offer at the club. They will be held on a Monday evening from 5.30 - 6.30pm and will be very small groups of pups from 7-12 weeks of age. They will be aimed at teaching Social Skills and basic Puppy Manners. If interested please email [email protected]
  18. I bought a kong wubba for my BC, she loved it, but proceeded to chew off the tails and then rip it apart... Lucky it has two balls inside which she continues to play with.... I don't know if that helps! It only lasted about a week with my not-so-close supervision .... (she only had it at night inside when she was with us - but OH let her chew it up where as I would have taken it off her when she started doing that) She has two Cuz as well (Medium & Small) and they have not been trashed - I would rate it as a TOP toy - as they are interested in it but don't seem to trash them!
  19. Glad that you guys are having luck. Thanks for all the advice and support, he is not crying as much thank gawd! And very right that you just need to get him into a routine - I have mine printed and on the fridge to ensure that I am following it. I think it's good that we can come hear and share thoughts, give and receive advice and even better - listen to other people's experiences - and know that you are not the only one! Thanks ALL!!
  20. Wise words... I have all of theory in my head - but put in to practice it is a bit harder
  21. How long does he need to be quote for before I treat him? I am scared to go in and wake him up / treat him when he is quiet that he will just sook when I go away! Maaan! He is having quite a sooky session is his pen RIGHT now! 30 minutes...
  22. Thanks Guys. He does chew his toys - but not in his crate - he just sooks, tires himself out and retires to the crate and sleeps. I have that e-book and it is brilliant. But even though I read it and had best of intentions - It's very hard when you hear him sooking in the other room! I do ignore him, but it tugs at your hearts strings after 20 minutes of sooking.... Also, he loves his den (crate thingy) it's the play pen that he tale exception to. I could have him in his crate beside me - but thats not going to be the reality tomorrow when I go back to work. Thanks again for support and advice! just want to do the right thing and be consistent.
  23. Thanks Luke - I am not really up for a hourly wake up for him or me. I will just take him out (no fun) for a wee when he wakes / cries. Three minutes and then back into the play den no matter what. I will follow jigsaw's advice - then hopefully he will learn that cry means toilet time. When I put him in his crate he either cries (and rips the place apart) or sleeps - there doesn't seem to be any play going on - do you think it is cos he is too young??
  24. Thanks guys - so after that should I just put him back in his play pen? Is he going to be ok with that? Or should I play (at 4am) for a bit.... Aren't I re-inforcing the crying though? Or is that the no patting or anything .......
  25. Can I ask a question - my puppy is newly adopted and doesn't like to be left alone in his little den which I have set up ... I have been leaving him when he is crying as that is what I have been told to do - so I look in on him - but don't set him see me..... BUT what do I do in this circumstance - he sooks when he wakes up - I am told to take him out for a look run when he wakes - but not touch him when sooking.... Do I touch him? Or wait until he stops sooking (and probably already relieved himself on the newspaper).
