  1. If it has been eaten it should come out in a day or so without any problems - had a similar but grosser issue with my dog - if you dont see it come out either end I agree - vets.
  2. I have a similar problem - when my boy was a pup he hated getting his feet wet - once he actually stood with his back legs inside and his front legs just far enough outside that his wee was technically 'outside'. He has pretty much grown out of it - but now the littel girl is the same. When I take her out in the morning she sits on the bricks and looks sadly at me on the lawn as if she couldnt possible get her feet wet. I usually pick her up and move her onto the lawn and then she is fine. Othertimes she sits there happpily in the rain, oblivious...
  3. wow - that papaw ointment has a million and one uses, I use it, but never thought to use it for the dogs. and seemsits made out of papaya I guess it doesnt matter if they lick it all off.
  4. Rolling is when you do a little bit often rather than the whole strip in one go. I found a groomer in Padbury who does handstripping but I didnt end up going there so not sure what she is like. Where do you live?
  5. I have heard that weeing inside after that operation is not uncommon - my boy did that a couple of times a few days after the surgery but certainly wasnt regular. I agree 10 days is too long - I think my boy was practically healed by then - certianly in no danger of the stitches coming out thats for sure.
  6. Soap is almost 10 months old - his eyes look normal ie not cloudy or anything like that. I think the short muzzle thing and colour vision makes sense. He is a terrier and originally bred for ratting and things like that (I think) so his distance vision probably isnt as useful as his close range vision. Thanks everyone
  7. Does anyone have any feedback or experience with one on one training in Perth (I am in Greenwood). Dont really like the idea of a big class as I have heard the Northern Suburbs traing in Warwick is, at least to start with for my dog I'd like an instructor to focus just on him. Thanks
  8. Good question - my boy has started doing this recently - he's nearly 10 months old. He digs his back legs in and refuses to move - so I pick him up and carry him for a bit (check his feet for prickles too) then put him down again. Sometimes I think its when he knows we're headed home and he doesnt want to go home yet????? Looking forward to DOLers comments.
  9. Hi all - yesterday morning I let the dogs out our bedroom door then a few minutes later I got up and went out another door into the backyard. Soap saw me from about 30m and didnt know it was me so he did his 'stranger danger' bark and I spoke to him then he realised it was me and stopped. He has done this to my boyfriend as well, though it was dark that time. Also sometimes I get the feeling he cant see, or loses sight of, a ball or toy if I throw it past him...its happened in all sorts of light, morning, afternoon etc Not sure is he's distracted or if its something else. What range should a dog be able to see?? Cheers Jaynie
  10. Thanks Chocolate - another thing to add to my list of doggy research
  11. Chocolate - my pup (9 months) may have an issue with his hips or knees - IF he does and depending on how we handle it it might be something I will add to his diet. For instance he isnt in pain and so if there is a problem but we dont operate he may develop arthritis later in life...so it was suggested glocosamine etc might be good for this. ILuvAmstaffs - thanks for your info
  12. Hi all - I'm possibly going to start giving this to my pup - I was told to get the animal formula rather than human and be sure to give the correct dose - I dont even know where to look - vets or pet supplies I'm guessing? If you know where to get it in Perth (I'm in Greenwood) pls let me know. Thanks
  13. Hi all - just in case I need one - can anyone recommend a chiro for our dogs - we live in Greenwood but dont mind a bit of a hike. thanks
  14. Cavandra thats what I thought too - that we should at least wait till the dog has finished growing but the vet thought otherwise. I'll see what the x-rays have to say on Monday - surgery would be my last resort - I'd much rather chiro or something like that as a solution.
  15. I think fruit is fine - my two pups loves apples, bananas and strawberries....and oranges - plus if its too soft or not as fresh as you like they're still happy with it
  16. my 12 weeks old bitch and 9 month old dog play fight all the time too. I used to remove the little girl because she nips the boy all the time and I thought it must be driving him crazy. But as soon as I take her away he's wanting her back with him so I just let them sort if out. Sometimes I guide them onto soft ground when they're playing if they come inside on the tiles or something but thats about it.
  17. Hi all - my 9 month old Border Terrier boy is going in for an x-ray on Monday because he has been limping on his back legs. Vet thinks its his patellas but wants to check its not his hips causing the issue with his legs. If he needs an operation what is involved, whats the recovery like, do they even need an operation of is there physio or something instead - of course I forget to ask the vet all these things when I'm there - but now I'm home, had a good cry and a bit more composed I have lots of questions... Of course my pup couldnt care less - he doesnt seem to be in any pain, I'm far more upset than he is.
  18. I have border terriers who have a double coat that we are meant to hand strip and yesterday got a Mars Coat King brush (20 teeth) - its absolutely fantastic and you can get them in different sizes for different coats. It cost about $65 but I have seen them cheaper online, and I think they vary depending on size anyway. www.marsgroomingproducts.com.au
  19. Yes, I agree put the pad outside, or at least get rid of it inside altogether - and lots of rewards for her when she goes outside. A friend was so vigilant she would set her alarm and take the pup out every 30 minutes when she first got him - I wasnt that strict but I made sure I waited around till the pup did "'toilies" and made a big fuss. Even doing all this it still took my pup 2 months to be fully toilet trained. PS - I just use a vinegar and water spray to clean up wee inside - cheaper and the worst it can do to the pups is make them sneeze.
  20. My dog did that a month or so ago - but the chicken was a few days old so must have been disgusting - no issues with the bones (or the foil bag it was wrapped in!!) but he had a really noisy squirty tummy for a few days afterwards - ended up taking him to the vet - fasted him for a day, rice etc etc and he was fine.
  21. Yep - the skamper ramp looks like a go-er - I wonder if its non-slip and its its okay for a salt water pool? Thanks
  22. Thanks for that - I just read that dogs cant see the steps (cos they're underwater) so they learn to use a landmark like a tree to remember where the steps are. But Im sure a flag or something wont hurt. I also came a cross a few dog pool ramps too - Scamper Ramp is available in Aust and there must be a few others around - I might ask at the pool shop or the dog shop. Thanks all
  23. In the past I have chucked a chicken frame or chicken wings or whatever bony bits I had on hand into the rice cooker when i cook the rice - add more water than usual so the rice ends up gluggy when its cooked - if the chicken had meat I add that to the rice otherwise its like a nice bowl of chicken flavoured rice.
