  1. I read somewhre - possibly on here - that the thing about boiling eggs was to get the bacteria off the shell. Having said that I have never boiled an egg - I just give the whole thing to the dog shell and all. Sometimes I semi-freeze them, raw, as a hot day treat - but never bothered to cook them.
  2. He's fine (so am I, just so you can all stop worrying about me ) He must not have got any - or else it was something else making my skin itchy. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  3. Hi all - I know Oleander is poison for some animals and little kids. I think I got a bit of sap on my wrist and it is itching like crazy but thats all I've noticed on ME so far. Some branches fell over the fence from the neighbour and before I could clear them away my dog (11 months old Border Terrier) had a branch in his mouth - I dont think he chewed it though. I'm keeping and eye on him and he seems perfectly fine - this all happened about 90 minutes ago. Does anyone know if its an issue for dogs or not?? Cheers Jaynie
  4. Although I dont have a lab - my two pups had the shaky front leg thing as well. I called the breeder and she said it's normal. they have now both grown out of it....or at least I dont see it anymore.
  5. From memory they were about $2.50 per kilo - but they were massive so probably weighed nearly a kilo each.
  6. I'm not vegetarian and they still gross me out - give me any sort of other offal or whatever and I'm fine...but there's something about tongues...
  7. Saw some cheap at the butcher - I have never eaten it myself - I'm sure its fine to give them but whats the texture like, they look really dense and chewy....but I guess its like my own tongue only bigger ??
  8. Hi all - well since I posted this I have been keeping Soap pretty quiet - walk him on lead at all times and not really long walks - the rest of his exercise is playing in the backyard with his little sister - Soap is nearly 11 months Holly is nearly 4 months. So he has small spurts of running around and all looks fine. On the few occassions I do let him off leash at teh park he is much much better nearly 100% actually. So for the time being I'm managing it this way - probably for at least another few months. He'll be due for his 12 months injections at the end of Jan and that will be with our proper vet so will get him checked out again then - if its still a problem. thanks for all your comments.
  9. I think thats a myth about breast cancer and alumimium. I was going to say something acidic maybe like tomato was in the dog food??
  10. Snr - what type of dogs do you have? Mine are Border Terriers so just medium sized I guess they'd be classified as...they have messed me a round a little getting the initial plan sorted out (eg listing them as Border Collies rather than Border Terriers - putting me on the wrong plan) but since then they've been fine and pay quickly.
  11. I am with RSPCA and it costs $57 per month for 2 dogs on the second highest cover at 80% refund. This covers $6800 accident and illness plus annual sub-limits of $1200 each for drugs, hospitalisation, radiology and skin conditions.
  12. I feed pro plan - various flavours - puppy line - although once I accidentally bought the small dog one and another time the adult one - they were fine. I currently feed half adult and half puppy. Both love it - healthy, good coats and small firm poo all the time.
  13. Hi - a naturopath gave me (well I bought it) Udo's 3-6-9 (which means its got omega 3, 6 and 9) oil and I just cant stomach it, it makes me retch just smelling it. anyway it was expensive and I dont want to waste it - so thought I'd try it with the dogs - they love it but I am wondering if its okay for them. the ingredients are flax seed oil; sunflower seed oil; sesame seed oil; coconut oil; evening primrose oil; rice bran and rice germ oil, soy lecithin, oat bran and oat germ oils and mixed tocopherols (whatever they are?) I pour about a teaspoon and a bit on their dry food every few days. Anyone know off hand? thanks J
  14. Pei girl and anyone else in WA - this is my reply from Artemis. I'm in Perth metro area so unless you're country I'm sure the freight would be the same cost. Hi Jaynie, Thank you for your email. We don't have a supplier in WA yet but we can send the food to you direct. I would think the small breed puppy would be the best option for your dogs, small dog is up to 10kg adult weight. I suggest changing to the adult food at 12 months so then I am afraid you will have to feed 2 separate foods to your dogs. The prices are as follows: 1.8kg = $22.30 + $5.00 freight 6.8kg = $60.25 + $14.30 freight 13.6 kg = $102.30 + $24.00 freight The freight prices are based on Perth, let me know your postcode just in case its different. Kind regards, Judith Strachan. Artemis Pet Food Australia.
  15. Well i bought a life jacket today (they only had pink in his size - so we wont go out in public - then little girl can have it when she is big enough) will put the pool blanket on to warm up the pool a bit and see how we go.
  16. Peigirl - I have emailed them and will let you know what they have to say
  17. Thanks for that - I think you've hit the nail on the head.
  18. Puggy_puggy Yes to worming - wormed on Monday Yes to sardines - 2 from a tin a couple of days ago Runny - not watery - something like runny mashed potato if that makes sense (just imagine a different smell and colour) I was just thinking that it probably had something to do with both sardines and worming just this morning. she has had sardines once before which co-incided with a very farty day or so, perhaps there is a link there. She has been much better this morning - morning toilet was about 75% good and just waiting for another one to compare with...
  19. We've been in the our hous a bit under 12 months - when we first moved in anytime we did gardening we found literally dozens of old bones the previous owner must have given his dog. Before we got our pup we dig a massive clean up of the garden to remove all the bones we could find - there were hundreds - and that probably being conservative. When Soap came home though and once he figured it out he would still find old bones - really he would dig up at least one a day - and we now have another little pup and they still find old bones - maybe one a week. Luckily they havent found the owners old dog who is buried in the garden somewhere, our neighbour told us. I always take the bones off them - they are so old and brittle and sharp - but I dont always realise they have one till they've been munching on it for a while. So - so far no problems - they do have upset tummies sometimes but I cant be sure its related to the bones. Our breeder told us when we giveour dog bones to take them away if they've been left in the sun and baked hard. But the dog I used to have years ago would keep old bones till they were full of maggots and then eat them - disgusting but she was fine.
  20. Thinking of getting this for my dogs too - will have to contact and see if they send to WA - doesnt look like there are any retailers here.
  21. I heard pumpkin firmed their stools?? More confusion. I'll check it out. She usually has pro plan for her meals, sometimes with a bit of yoghurt - sometimes replaced with something like a chicken drumstick or wing.
  22. Hi all - my 3 and a bit month old girl has really runny poo but is her usually energetic demonic self apart from that. Is she too young to fast for 24 hours? I gave her rice for breakfast - no lunch and pumpkin and rice for dinner...so she missed out on her usual lunch. But wondering if her poo doesnt improve should I fast her or not? Thanks J
  23. puggy_puggy...I heard the opposite My boy sometimes skips a bit when he runs and it was suggested a bit of pool time might be good for him. It hasnt officially been diagnosed as his patellas - or hips - or anything else...hmmm...
  24. Thanks for that info - Soap is not too keen on going past his ankles at the beach! I have put him in the pool a couple of times to cool off - he doesnt love it but I think he will learn to tolerate it. I have also heard that pools arent good for their coats - but when he comes out of the salt water pool his coat is fantastic.
  25. Hi all - I have heard many benefits of hyrotherapy for knee and hip problems in dogs. Is this something that should be done by a professional or could I just put my dog in the pool (when its a bit warmer) and let him do a couple of laps? I was thinking about getting him a life jacket (even though he is already pretty bouyant) to make it easier, even if it is just to start with. Our pool is fiberglass and in the heat of summer gets quite warm and we have a pool blanket too so if we leave that on its really warm in there - would that be better than normal coolish pool temp? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
