  1. Unfortunately once someone has reached that level of associating the animal as her child no rational arguments will work. Unless there is intervention to either remove the animal or enforce her to change her treatment of him there will only be a decline in his environmental enrivhment/health and possibly her mental stability especially if something goes wrong with him
  2. The video of her saying that he won't grow is disturbing, my BIL breeds albino red kangaroos and as part of a rescue program I took in a couple of hand reared euros and he took in desexed red male kangaroos. Some of these roos are very large and were desexed as babies. Male kangaroos do not stop growing until they die, desexing them may have some impact but it certainly will not stop Irwin from getting any bigger than he is now. This picture is of my two rescue Euros at the front. Kayla the small one is a doe and Tyson is a desexed male and he is much bigger than the undesexed female. Caz the best way to get publicity for this would be for people to lobby Australia Zoo to make a statement as the kangaroo has been named after Steve Irwin, if they believe that it is wrong a public statement would get coverage. 3. And I am sorry but that pic with her and the roo dressed in a suit looked like they were about to go on a date
  4. I used to have one on our rural property that said It will take you 30 seconds to run from the house to the gate, the dogs can do it in 20 and If the dogs don't get you the shotgun will. - That one wasn't up for very long
  5. I just wanted to add and this may seem hypocritical but two of my girls were no hope cases, I went against medical advice and they recovered however I was prepared to make the decision to euthanase if they did not show signs of improvement. Poppy broke a bone in her vertebrae and was given no chance of survival - it took 12 weeks of intensive rehab and she is now perfect Daisy suffered a brain haemorrhage after her mother fell on her after being shot. The haemorrhage occured 4 weeks after she came into my care as a furless baby but she had a mouth droop from day one. She suffered major seizures and lost mobilty, sight and hearing (she was barely furred) she began regaining these senses after 4 weeks and 2 years later she has to have special care as her digestive sysytem suffered badly. My point is I fully understand the desire to rehabilitate a wild animal but at no time were my girls paraded around like an ornament to garner attention or support and I would have put them down for their own benefit if I could not offer them a decent life.
  6. As someone who has roos as pets and a highly special needs one at that, I am thoroughly horrified by this story. Roos are prey animals, they are not dolls to dress up and drive around. My girls are very people orientated but they are wild animals. Poppy is a red doe and once kangaroos lose their natural fear of humans that is when they can becomme a danger. Poppy will grab me on the back while I am walking in a bear hug people think this is cute, I know better and this behaviour is discouraged by me to prevent the behaviour from escalating. Place a small child in that situation and it could end in major injuries. Poor Irwin does not have the physical capacity to react in either fight or flight mode. Anyone that has worked closely with roos understand how easily they stress and knowingly putting an animal in this situation sickens me. I get very concerned when I see people in roo enclosures picking up their arms exposing their chests, this can be seen by the roo as a defensive move and can kick to protect themselves. Sometimes we humans are incredibly selfish when it comes to making decisions about animals when emotions are involved
  7. On the day of the article in the Advertiser in Adelaide a 10 week old shar pei bitch puppy was advertised on Gumtree as a giveaway stating she needed entropian surgery. I can imagine the amount of people wanting a free roly puppy, the ad was gone by that night so she must have gone quickly - very sad but at least the surgery was mentioned and that the owner said she required treatment but people can say anything if they want something badly enough "Date Listed 18/04/2011 Price Free Address ............., Australia Offered By Owner i have a female shar-pei pup,she has a beautiful nature but has a common problem with the breed and that is Called Entropion she will most probably need to have her eyelid lifted on one eye,it doesnt need to be done straight away but in the near future, she is very wrinkly and cute 10 weeks old.any questions call me on PH;.............. to good home only and be prepared to give her the treatment that she may need. "
  8. I am so sorry julz, I too know the feeling all too well. My partner was talking about Jake as if he is still here yesterday and I had to gently remind him that it has now been 6 months since he has been gone. The tears will flow, the heart will break but I hope in time that the memories of love and loyalty that we shared will one day break through the pain.
  9. My little pom cross was the same (hated moving wheels near her) so I just bought a double pram so when I walked with her she sat in the front and Ben was in the back
  10. There is a "rare" blue merle border (advertised as this) collie pup on another site I frequent for $1000 unregistered and 7 weeks old, the parents are apparently CL tested clear. He looks pretty cute and has the same markings as his black/white sibling in the photo. I personally think they lose the look of being a BC when they are this colour
  11. My CASD was $1500 (limited register) and this included a $200 desexing rebate and that price for a rare breed was amazing especially since his breeder spends so much on researching and importing and the last litter she had was nearly 4 years ago.
  12. I'm so sorry Kirty. Safe travels over the bridge sweet Phoebe there will be lots of lost souls to love and lean on when you get there
  13. Just in case anyone thought they were getting a complete package, they have a disclaimer "*dog not included"
  14. Having a sign that says beware of the dog, dog bites etc is admitting that you know your dog can/will bite. Signs such as " No Unauthorised Entry, Dogs on Premises" is better
  15. At a public park, all for publicity - well they are certainly going to achieve the attention that they were looking for - just not the right type of attention. I am absolutely appalled, you lead by example and what kind of example are you setting by taking unvaccinated babies to a public park? ;) What is truly amazing if it is the above mentioned rescue org is that the two people responsible have worked managing boarding kennels and worked in council pounds and the very basics of quarantine and vaccination is not being done. WTF love doesn't save lives responsibility and health/hygeine procedures do
  16. We had a whole litter of these brought in by a registered breeder to the AWL about 8-9 years ago (accidental mating by two RB neighbours) it was alaskan malamute cross ccr mating though and while they were divine to look at they had awful temperaments. By memory a couple were returned, I remember one had severe aggression issues. The worst and most unusual we saw was a litter of keeshond cross chihuahuas, they were a purposeful mating but all had to be euthed as they couldn't stand at 7 weeks of age as their legs were so small and their body normal size. The most disgusting thing as the owner said "the last litter was fine"
  17. Who defines inappropriate? "Dogs should not be imported if they exhibit or carry behavioural characteristics that may inappropriately threaten the safety of human beings or other animals." LGD breeds are supposed to carry behavioural traits that would threaten people or animals if the human or animal inappropriately came onto their territory. Who defines what threaten means? Is threatening barking, growing, defensive pose or attack? And what is to happen to these animals if they fail the assessment? is the importer reimbursed for the thousands of dollars that they have lost?
  18. When speaking to KraMar when the Super 2 came in they said that they MUST be oiled every 5 mins as they run so fast and will overheat. I personally would look at another model. I stopped selling the Super 2 once I was told that as people could forget to check the blade so regularly and it could have resulted in nasty burns particularly on really matted soft skinned dogs (malts etc)
  19. The only other breed I want apart from the CASD/CAO is the CO but I am happy to wait until they come into the country by a responsible breeder that I can work with and respect. We are tossing up between a boston or peke for our next house dog, if pekes win out (my choice) he/she would have to be white or parti coloured, the rest of the family are set on bostons as we babysat 2 for 3 months last year and they miss them - little clowns
  20. Having a Central Asian Ovcharka or Central Asian Shepherd Dog proved entertaining, even after 3 years my OH always asked what he was. In the end when people asked him what breed Jake was he just said "he looks after animals and they come from overseas in the mountains
  21. Dont you dare!! I am sure Steve will agree I'd rather be over run than have someone lose their dogs. You might rather be run over but you will run yourself down
  22. I used to work for Eve from Eves Dog Salon when it was on Magill Road but she doesn't own it anymore, I think she may still do it from home though. Her handling of the dogs and scissor skill was fantastic, I have never worked with a better handler especially with stressy or difficult dogs. I like Dogsfx on Prospect road, Suzanne and Tracy are very nice
  23. I am one that gets upset seeing dogs walked in the heat of the day, especially older ones. Can you imagine how hot that cement is on their pads? I am normally standing out in the heat holding a hose so my emus, alpaca and joeys can keep cool there is no way I would be exercising them
  24. My kitten was used in a billboard RSPCA adopt a pet campaign a couple of years ago and he is a burmese cross. The kitten was suspended and looked like he was being picked up by a computer mouse (obviously photoshopped the person holding him). I saw the billboard all over Adelaide for nearly 12 months and thought it wasn't the ideal advertising for the RSPCA rspca_billboard_3350x12660.pdf
