Have We Got Our Priorities Right?
casowner replied to Blonde_Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
As the owner of a reasonably sized store in a higher income area I am interested to see where our customers have sourced their dogs from and have decided that from Jan 1st 2012 - March 31st 2012 I am going to run a survey with our customers about where their dogs came from. I am personally interested to see the results. I will break it down to registered breeders, pet shops, rescue, internet/paper and also have a section on general breed types pure - cross and sizes - toy, small, medium, large and giant. A large percentage of our business is made up of sales of super premium pet foods and dog accessories and this survey will help me put in place business developments but will also help my genuine curiosity also. -
Kar I am confused as in the CAO 101 thread you said you were getting a CAO cross and then edited out the post, it was at the same time there was a CAO cross tiopic in General that got deleted. Did you get another dog other than the CAO cross from your initial post? There are very few pure CAO's and if so what has your breeder recommended. Cross breed LGD's have unpredictable natures as the different breeds have completely different guarding techniques. I do not mean to sound difficult but it is important to know if the dog is a cross breed LGD, can you post a pic please I successfully had my CAO in with guinea pigs to camels happily

I understand, I have been in tears of what has been and what may be again.

Thank god I can breathe again, how stressful for you Lilli

Stone, lilli is familiar with bloat and the cause/consequences I think she is asking specifically about the charcoal and flatulence for her own reason

I hope all is ok Lilli, that word worries me

I have had my house in Redwood park broken into which is close by, the "person" who was female was seen in broad daylight going in there and the police were called. She shut the door and must have gotten over a fence as the house was watched and it only took 10 mins for them to get there. it wasn't the first time she had been in and she has taken treasured memories Be very careful as they have no shame and are repeat offenders

The police should be called and a report made, I would suggest an autopsy to see if there were poisons or at least get the meat tested and also contact the council. I am sorry for your friends loss

WP Codie Lee was on it for over 10 years on and off in low doses, I didn't notice any major health issues associated with it. I hope it didn't contribute to Tina's problems, that was and still is heartbreaking -

Let us know how the vet visit goes HUP. My GSD had incontinence issues and after diagnosis she was prescribed stilboestrol, luckily she only needed small doses and she was fine but as others have said ruling out medical issues is the best first step For Raz -

Seriously you must be taking the piss? Have you cut a disposable nappy and seen the liquid absorbing gel? Dog ones are made specifically for dogs, they don't have to have holes cut in them fyi speaking of attitude, the above doesn't exactly hinder a friendly tone, I don't swear in my posts at least. However I will let it drop from here. Oh goodie thank you FYI HUP there is a product called an oops pad maybe she could lie on that when on the bed Oops pad -

I am usually really supportive of people on this forum but to be quite honest Donatella you have the worst attitude that I have seen in a long time and it is no wonder people take jibes at your comments, you seem to have a habit of turning other peoples threads into bitch fights. You are entitled to your numerous, often stated opinions as everyone else entitled to offer advice. -

Yes I forgot Google is the most accurate tool ever, I should have consulted the Google Gods before I made the mistake of doing it for a really sick joey once and having lots of crap fall everywhere. I also had my sonrip a used one out of my hands and have the gel fall out umm this was this morning so I know what disposable nappies do. -

Cutting holes in disposable nappies will result in the filling that makes them absorbant loose, this will drop everywhere and is probably not healthy. You may also cause urine burn if it seems out on her delicate skin -
kar have you got a pic of Akida :D They have a naturally strong instinct which gets stronger with age, all LGD breeds have different breed traits. I second Clyde's recommendation about going into the breed thread, I can't express the importance of building a good relationship with your breeder as they are the best source of advice with this breed

I am having a really sad day today it has really hit me that Shannon is gone, that Jake isn't here anymore and that makes me feel so alone even though I am surrounded my family and animals You will be back in time for Christmas I am sure that within minutes all of those feelings will disappear

I haven't ridden a dog recently. Dogs aren't considered beasts of burden we do not put saddles on them, put bits in their mouths, get on their backs and expect them to go where we want including in circles repetively. I got swooped by a magpie once, doesn't mean I expect all swooping magpies to be shot out of the sky. Sorry but I do not see any comparison but for what it is worth if one of my horses had maliciously injured someone it would be pts

AM the pic of this older lab was taken a couple of weeks ago - these dogs are responsible for the deaths of a palomino yearling show filly, injuries on another horse and deaths of at least 20 sheep over a few months. This lab is aged and apparently "good" with other animals, they were found trying to get in and kill my deer and emus. They had already chased cows, sheep and horses and bailed up a neighbour luckily we were interstate and another neighbour caught them on my property next time they will not be returning home. In fact I had my own topic a few months ago asking whether our sheep attacks were dog or fox related my guess was correct. Lilli's questions are valid especially if you have other animals, these animals are good where they are comfortable but as soon as the opportunity is available they roamed every weekend and caused utter devastation to several families. Personally I would go the pup option but that is just my opinion, it depends on whether you have enclosed areas that are escape proof. Are you on property or are you meaning other family pets. If you are on land it is not only your animals you have to think of but your neighbours - these dogs were coming from at least 3-5kms away

A very well known SA Registered Breeder was just fined $55000 for cruelty last week and a majority of her cats were pts, another one had cats (I think) 70 seized a few weeks prior at least the RSPCA are targeting everyone Cats Seized Cats Cruelty

Serious injuries from dog attacks shouldn't need to be reported in the press for parents to practice responsible dog ownership, anyone with half a brain knows they should supervise their kids around dogs, yes accidents happen when parents are there, but ppl need to learn how to read the signs from the dog as well. Unfortunately now, as always it is the dog who has to pay the ultimate price My point was that before the girl was killed in Melbourne they would only report dog attacks every so often but since then the media has seen a good thing and report on every incident there is in one paper or another, even if ppl are not seriously injured. Clearly they don't and there is no such thing as too much education. Complacency is as dangerous as not understanding animal behaviour This was a serious bite, I suggest you spend some time in this section and check out all of the news topics on attackes PRE the Melbourne attack. All the angry faces in the world won't make me change my mind

It was said on the radio that they didn't want to release the name of the "breed" as it was a mixed breed of heeler cross appearance, sounds to me that they were being cautious so not to add to breed hysteria. A child with severe facial injuries from an attack is newsworthy and it highlighted the need for owners to be vigilent with supervising pets and children. I am thinking it is you just being paranoid - sounded like reasonable reporting to me. Would you prefer that serious injuries not be reported on so that parents can not have the responsible dog ownership message reinforced to them? If this makes one parent stop and think about how they supervise both their children and pets then this poor little boys injuries weren't for nothing. Horrid situation for all involved but hopefully people are getting the message to protect their family and dogs and be responsible "Once again it just shows how vigilant you have to be when children and animals are in the same area. "This dog has obviously been a very loving dog and then unfortunately it's attacked a young child, so it just shows how vigilant one has to be with animals and children." SA Dog and Cat Management Board executive Ben Luxton said he wanted to stress "the importance of actively supervising or separating small children and dogs".
