What Is The Worst Thing About Your Chosen Breed?

Central Asian Shepherd and Anatolian Shepherd No holidays unless the only one person that they like apart from us is available to come down from QLD to SA to house sit -

A tad OT but I learned 2 weeks ago that even the best "trained" child will go against all that they know when in the company of another. We were at our house next door and my 4 year old who doesn't even leave the area around the house (has been ingrained in him since he could walk) was playing with his 5 year old cousin. A few minutes later my brother walked around the side of the house (we were just around the corner) to play with the boys and they were gone. He found them up the road heading to our other house, cars had driven past them. It is a dirt road with windy corners. My son said he knows he couldn't leave the house but his cousin wanted to play Lego. I have never been more shocked and scared in my life so don't ever think "my kids know better and they wouldn't touch a strange dog". That one moment can have devastating consequences, I was incredibly lucky the poor little girl wasn't

Perhaps because some people on here sell it and feel they have to defend it? Ivory Coat is just as 'Strayan and not only is comparable in terms of ingredients, they have a much wider range of proteins. Price isn't much different, either. I personally think Ivory Coat is a much better product, I would feed it to my dogs I wouldn't feed them BlackHawk
-
Why would this be for Australian made food from Australian ingredients? exactly, our wholesale price has gone up $20 on a bag for one type that is ridiculous
-
Up to 18% in some cases
-
Treat balls etc don't work with my lot, today I gave Wolff and Azure an ostrich egg each. Azure still has hers, Wolff's lasted less than an hour lol

Australian made Ivory Coat is gaining popularity

Not rehomed by a pet shop but rather, as Pet Barn and Pet Stock do now, rehoming days run in conjunction with RSPCA and AWL. They are not the only ones, nor the first but just FYI the AWL and RSPCA refused to rehome through Independents for years and only started with the Corporates who have massive marketing dollars. Thousands of animals could have been saved and rehomed well before the Corporates were on the scene Thanks for that. Obviously the 'biggies' are more visible to us all. The fact remains that no matter who is doing it the model is good - better than couping up pets in pet shop windows. I find it interesting that you don't want to see animals couped up in pet shops so what about the tiny RSPCA cages in the pet shops? Is that acceptable because the cages have RSPCA on them? Genuine question what is the difference?

Ok so is it fair that the "biggies" who honestly care about $$ and not the homes, profit is good business and good PR = $$ so what about the "restraint of trade" so to speak for the Independents when the "biggies" are the ones contracted to the main shelters? My affiliated rescue has rehomed over 5000 dogs/cats and they started in my store in 2012. You did not answer my question, who represented the Pet Industry? The people that you were making recommendations for, I am honestly interested because it seems the "biggies" are the only ones that have been considered and not those that built the Industry based on a true passion and love of animals, those that have not sold dogs/cats for years

I understand Ness. One of the things that you need to understand is that this is a report put together in a short time by a large bunch of gifted amateurs who met infrequently and had to try to get their ideas together and onto paper for release to the Minister in an 11 day period between the last deliberation day and yesterday - really under a week actually because the report had to be printed and in the hands of the Minister some time before it waas presented to him last night. What I can say is that there was much much more discussion and a lot of ideas that were discussed and possibly, given time, would have been further fleshed out but weren't - leading to these types of small 'detail level' issues. The other thing to know is that throughout the Jury's deliberations there were senior staff members from both the minister's office and the Dog and Cat Management Board in attendance quietly observing what was being said. The concepts are in the report and the detail will have to come. The detail is already part of what was discussed and picked up upon by those whose job it is to work out that stuff. The concepts are the things that matter in the report. And who represented the Pet Industry? The businesses that will be affected should have had representation. I do not have puppies and kittens and have been a strong advocate of supporting rescues in fact my staff member was interviewed in my store yesterday by Channel 10 but I find it curious that the discussion was held without expert Pet Industry input or if it was none of it was relayed to key businesses for their experience/input/recommendations

Pet Industry Peak Body In Turmoil After Consumers Misled
casowner replied to _PL_'s topic in In The News
I am a pet shop owner and I categorically state that ignorance is not an excuse, it is my Industry and those in it must be responsible for their own decisions and actions. I am sorry but if you are getting a regular invoice/supply of product (puppies) you know damn well that they are coming from a business. Invoices have ABN's which can be searched etc and if you have a business name and ABN on an invoice you know it is a BUSINESS. -

I am not joining the PIAA train but the entire article that PIAA gave to the reporter was very different to the one page including the shop being terminated from PIAA for breaching guidelines and stores have been copping emails about following the guidelines ever since. I am no longer a member but there are always 3 sides to every story -
Cowra Rescuers..is This True Or A Beat-Up?
casowner replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
No offence but my memory is still pretty clear about the ongoing and prolonged suffering that Lily was subjected to resulting in DOlers offering to pay for vet bills because LM couldn't afford vet bills, people have very long memories so before they diss other rescues they should have a good hard look in their own closet -
Oh Wolff is not simply telling off, it would escalate and not be able to be stopped but I know what you are saying :) Resource guarding towards humans is dangerous and dogs require confident, non complacent experienced owners to deal with it
-
My Wolff (CASD) has always been extreme in food resource guarding since the day he arrived but only with the other dog, it is a known trait in my breed/his line so it is managed very carefully. Dogs are separated into different yards at feeding and the yard is inspected carefully before they are put together, I on the other hand can take anything from him. I know my dog and his triggers and tolerances and we do not make mistakes
-
The green one? We sell them, it is a Kazoo dog pen. When he has to be "crated" he has the pen, concrete culvert and custom kennel so even though he is contained it is a large area. We put him away when people are here as he can get protective He really is Special and reinforced my belief that CAS are my heart breed
-
The boys are still besties
-
My Wolff pup has grown into such a beautiful boy, I have had to cut his magnificent tail and pants off because he sits in his pool rain, hail or shine
-
Caving dogs heads in, how humane
-
Shooting may not be illegal but a mass grave with bullets strewn to me leaves it open to the imagination that dogs were shot in front of each other, that is what I consider inhumane. Noise, stress, smell of blood etc is not an appropriate environment for an animal to be euthanised in
