  1. Poor little thing at least she is no longer suffering. I would be getting a vet report and going straight to the police and media so that a warning can hopefully be given to residents about making sure their pets are kept contained in their own yards. I am completely shocked that a vet wouldn't do an xray earlier especially if the kitten had shown partial or full paralysis
  2. When it comes to my chosen livestock guardian breed, I am proud to say that I am breedist and breederist. My chosen breed does not give me the ability to be lax in the animals history or breed trait, I want to be sure what I am looking at and have the back up support from my breeder to ensure that my dog and my family work as a cohesive unit
  3. Awwww....do you have an ETA? Hope it all goes well for everyone involved. :) She is due to come into season in June so fingers, toes and everything else crossed, our home is so empty since we lost Jake and the next pup will be for my partner and my son. I will hopefully get my puppy next year when she is put to the import dog, I have stayed strong as I know CAO's are the breed for us but it has been hard. We will also be looking at getting a frenchie as a house dog too (his name will be Fozzie) :D
  4. By the time I get a pup from my chosen breeder I would have waited just over 2 years and that is if the bitch gets pregnant next season. Good dogs and good breeders are worth waiting for. But I am puppy clucky
  5. Now that Rudducks is a distributor all pet shops have access to this product now if they wish to stock it so that will make it easier for people to get hold of it
  6. There are motion detector cameras that take pics and you can download them via usb, some now can get clear pics of cars doing 80km per hour at night. I would look into one and have it mounted so that if anything strange happens it will be caught, cctv stuff has to run all of the time whereas this will take snaps so you don't have to trawl through footage. If someone comes to "look" you wouldn't notice if you just had video unless something was touched. I would have crapped myself if it was me
  7. This is Baileys at Normanville and Goolwa Pet friendly Accom
  8. I would imagine that the coroner would come back with an accurate account of the evidence at hand, it is not a position where she would take the liberty of having her emotions affect her work as she would have to stand by it in court. I personally don't care what breed it was, a completely innocent girl was terrorised and killed and her family affected for the rest of their lives. Innocent people minding their own business in their home, can you imagine the dog phobias instilled on the other children for life? In my opinion the owner's culpability will be determined after the report? I agree the major proportion of blame is on the owners
  9. What a load of rot. It will determine date, time, place and cause of death. It's then up to the coroner if she decides to make recommendations. This is not about the dog - it's about the little girl who was killed!
  10. I absolutely feel for the dog owner , I believe the farmer was within his rights to shoot the dogs but the correct protocol should have been followed. Dogs menacing on his property - dogs shot - bodies left where they lie - council contacted for removal/identification. This is a case where the farmer went too far in his actions after the fact, maybe he was tired of irresponsible owners allowing their dogs to roam and menacing his animals and these two were the final straw. No owner needs to find their animals the way this one did but never minimise the species that was injured/killed. To this day my son still cries when he thinks of his pet rabbit and chickens killed by neighbours dogs Property owners are well within their rights to have any animal they are legally allowed to own contained on their own property, it is up to other animal owners to keep their animals off of other properties end of story
  11. excellent i was starting to doubt my memory
  12. It was in the 90's so I don't think they would be the same people, they definately had deerhounds waaaay back then
  13. The kennel in MB was also a boarding kennel/council pound we used to go up and get dogs to assess for hearing dogs
  14. I'm think that a breeder of deerhounds? used to have one many years ago at Murray Bridge I remember it was a shaggy large breed hound that had been imported
  15. We had tenants next door and their "terriers" took chase to my horse, newborn foal, sheep and emus whilst they stood there and watched their "terriers" have fun. I ended up with 2 emus going through barb wire fences and a badly scratched up foal. In this case we spent over 1/2 hr chasing them until they were caught. The new neighbours cocker spaniels kept coming over and harrassing my kangaroos but after very harsh repeated warnings from me and a cao, stallion and donkey going after them they were contained. The last 2 were just lucky I was at an airport interstate because from now on the only compassion we will show is towards our own animals. Those that live in semi rural/rural areas must ensure their animals are contained on their own properties or risk the outcome. This is why our breed of choice is a flock guardian as they ensure that any intruder is kept away or are dealt with.
  16. I also think we remember our past dogs as the older version and "forget" about some of their challenges when they were young. It is hard but we have to learn to minimise factors that can set them off such as when you go out and come home at night etc. Having someone come in and visually see her and your home will definately help as they come in with trainers eyes and not owners eyes
  17. I don't even breed but that narrow minded and ill informed attitude really makes me concerned about the future of companion animals
  18. Angeluca one of the dogs that created the carnage around here was an elderly lab that the owners swore wouldn't hurt a fly. We recently stopped and caught a stunning young goldie that had bailed up a ewe and lamb and drove around and found the property it came from. 6 weeks later there were lost signs up for it, I am guessing the other property owners got tired of the owners thinking it wouldn't do anything other than play. I am glad you don't take risks as that is the responsible thing to do sadly many others don't
  19. After having over 10 sheep, my neighbours losing a show yearling and another horse injured in the past few months due to neglectful owners allowing their 2 dogs to roam when they came up on weekends I understand the persons action to shoot the dogs. Luckily for the two in my instance they were caught on my property by another neighbour and the owners contacted and warned. If we were home or my neighbours with the horses caught them there would have been a different outcome
  20. Some of those members are promoting rescue groups and rescue animals so tarring them all with the same brush can have negative consequences on rescue animals. Generalising about an Industry is not productive perhaps aiming negativity at those that are physically adding to the issue may be more beneficial. I have emailed the PIAA about the negative publicity and the impact it may have on their members (of which I am no longer a part of for my own reasons)and they are supportive of their President. I know Steve and I know how passionate he is about training dogs and the protection of the environment and native animals and this is a very unfortunate picture of him. However going into the freezer of a shelter and seeing sulo bins full of euthanased animals - strays, hand overs and owners requests is a far more upsetting image to me. The outrage that Steve's photo has caused has ignited a huge emotive response maybe people should be made more aware of what happens to the animals once they run out of options in a shelter and evoke the same emotion to help reduce the tragedy. Many of the feral cats that they are trying to eradicate have probably been bred from farm cats not pet shops as there aren't too many rural pet shops that would sell/give away kittens.
