casowner replied to Esky the husky's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is literally around the corner for me but I will be setting up a rabbit display at the Royal Showgrounds -
By far the most important thing to me is to study bloat and what can be done to minimise risks associated with it

Anyone In S.a Have A Dog Which May
casowner replied to persephone's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Paws & Claws facebook I help with supporting Miriam at Paws and Claws Adoptions and am sponsoring them hand rearing a litter of little fluffies that were saved when the mum was taken in for desexing. There were 5 but they have lost 1. I think they have some nice dogs atm -
Just because a member has a difference of opinion it doesn't make them a troll! Yet when someone signs up just to post in one thread about that one opinion, loudly, it does make them a troll. Lots of people lurk without signing up. When they see a thread of interest they join to contribute. She is not breeder bashing. It's a fact, registered breeders do get parvo. Hardly. Sorks has also posted about their dog and pancreatitis. Trolling? I think not. Sorks is not running around saying all breeders are the scum of the earth. They are simply stating facts. There are bad ones out there (just as there are good ones). God forbid that someone should be allowed to say that they've had a raw deal from a registered breeder *eye rolly man* I know I have! I've had good ones too. If I post about my bad experiences it is not breeder bashing or trolling, just stating fact. I agree Clyde

Franchised stores will still trade they can and may also sell more puppies due to demand and less competition so while it may be great news don't get too excited because if one shuts down it leaves the door open for others to start. Maybe puppy farms will open their own retail stores to fill the void
-
It is only company stores affected so all of those franchisees that sell puppies can continue to do so

I am really impressed by the grain free Earthborn Holistic Ocen Catch and Primitive diets

To Report Or Not To Report...
casowner replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
OP now that you are taking an anatolian pup you need to report the dogs owners as you can't take known or possible risks with this affecting Maya's long term behaviour. Report them to prevent future conflict or behavioural issues and make your walking experience what it should be - enjoyable :) -
This is the kennel I had made for my CAO

OSO shops such as mine research new products to evaluate whether or not to stock them and peoples experiences and opinions can be a valuable tool in doing so. Reps and companies will say their product makes the animals fart cherries and leave nuggets of gold on the lawn but consumers who spend their hard earned money on their beloved pets have nothing to gain from promoting a product if it doesn't work for them. I have seen both sides who heavily support it and those that do not but I also watch the reactions from those that comment too.
-
Thanks Rumour :) you may be right. Yes WOM = Word of Mouth and I am talking in SA. Stockists may have grown but there are some shops that are not taking it on because of threads such as these. Good news may not sell newspapers but bad public perception doesn't sell shelf space either. I was one that was keen on taking it on even before Rudducks even took it on, I have watched this thread with keen interest and as shelf space is valuable I only want one more range and it was between 3 including this one. I speak daily with reps and other store owners so do know what is going on in my state. Getting a line into a store is one thing but growing it and maintaining it is another. One thing I have noticed in this economic climate (and I have been doing my research in store) is that more and more people are "special shopping" rather than being consistent with a brand of food. There is a market/demand for super premiums without the high end price tag and that is attractive in this market. I sell over $500k a year in super premium food and have been watching the sales proportions change and it is definately different than 18 months ago. I simply made these comments to say that this thread is a source of research for some shops as it has been more popular in the pedigree dog world and that these comments obviously are being considered as feedback for those looking at investing large $$$ to stock it.
-
I just wanted to say that since Rudducks has become a wholesaler many shops have been directed by WOM to this thread and I must say that it has turned many off from stocking it not only from the comments about the food but sometimes the way those that have had negative experiences have been responded too

Or fight to the death with no chance of separating two dogs with that much power. I sure wouldn't risk an entire male of either of those breeds with any other entire male. The risk is just too great if they have a disagreement. I would be very surprised at anyone that would sell you a second male. Totally agree with dancinbcs... So you purchased a Cav puppy in April and have added a Cane Corso puppy and now you want to get Boerboel pup... You are going to be so busy training and caring for so many pups.. Wasn't there another forum member not long ago with one of these large powerful breeds that also had a Labrador? There were issues and the big dog hurt the labrador. But they were best mates when one was a pup... I think that was a neo mastiff and didn't he get bitten by it when separating them?

Recommendation For Trainer/behaviourist In Sydney
casowner replied to FredGassit's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi OP I would appreciate it if you could update us when you find a trainer that you are happy with as I have a friend in Sydney that is getting a large breed pup soon and will be looking for a trainer. Interpersonal skills and professionalism will be really important for this client as well as a high level training ability as she tends to be quite sensitive to overly strong personalities. Good luck with your daccies :) -
RSA I just wanted to acknowledge that I think it is really great when people can see that sometimes we get over emotive in our posts and take things personally and that you have still been able to continue on after having those experiences
