  1. I was supposed to update this ages ago There are stocks available if anyone wants a DVD. Also if anyone has had any problems getting them to work can you please contact me and I will try to help you sort through it.
  2. Congratulations. We had a triple up here at Easter but I was sick and missed it. I can imagine that it is a lot to get a handle on.
  3. At the Redcliffe Double Rally trial yesterday, Jay Lane with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Jasper (Sunnyroe Jasper Tout RE CCD CD) needed one set of RE/RA quallies to get her RAE and Olaf Moller and his border collie Mia (OCh Fidelis Mia Suzy RE) needed to qually in both trials for his RAE and they were both successful so we have the first two RAE's in Australia. Congratulations to both of them and of course to their wonderful dogs. I think Mia will be continuing but Jasper will now be retiring from competition.
  4. One thing I learned the hard way about the 2m lead, as you are leaving the dog, make sure it's not going to get tangled or you catch your feet on it. We are so used to doing stays off lead. I left my dog in training the other night and my foot caught in the lead which caused my dog to break the stay. Glad it was training and not a trial.
  5. We are temporarily out of stock again. For anyone who has ordered, please give me a week to burn some more and we will be back in contact with you.
  6. Rally is much less rigid than traditional Obedience. It's only a few minutes for each run so the dogs don't get easily bored and you can talk to the dogs all the way through. I think that's what my Boxer likes the most - that we still have the interaction. Plus he had to learn some new tricks and that's always fun.
  7. Fuzzy82 if you are local you might be able to arrange to meet one of us at a trial / event and pick up the dvd. You can message me if you want more details.
  8. Sorry to your friend but we've had an RE dog up here in Qld since April/May. She now has a couple of RAE legs up. Congrats to your friend though - very fine effort.
  9. Congrats to Jay and Jasper - great work and well deserved.
  10. The Qld Rally O Working Party has produced an instructional DVD for Rally Obedience. It goes through all the exercises, hints on what and what not to do, and includes at least one video clip of each exercise being performed. It also includes the rules, more information on the deductions and scoring plus lots lots more! The DVD is available for $10 plus postage. They can be ordered from the Chairperson of the Working Party - Des Strong - [email protected] The dvd's are computer based and work like a website with links to navigate around all the features. They are formatted for Windows based computers - I have heard that someone used them on a Mac but we can't guarantee they will work on Apple. The dvd's are spreading far and wide across Australia. Many people on the forums have mentioned them but I thought if I started a post it might be easier to find. Thanks to Troy for letting us post about this. Qld Rally O Working Party
  11. Throwing food behind him is not an option I want to try. This dog has had two knee reconstructions on one leg and I don't want him to suddenly twist and turn - I still fear for the other leg. I guess I want him to realise his own speed and learn to adjust to the stop in front regardless of the distance. He has spent most of his life not being able to run freely and now is too fast for his own good. I am hoping with a bit more age and practice that he will be watching more and hopefully judging speed and distances better and with time and practice on the free drops that we will get the drop on recall (I still have time to work on that). Don't always have the chance to use a wall or a fence but I thought I might try a wall of chairs. I tried sitting on the chair on Monday night and it was good because it was new and made him think instead of just running madly. Walking in towards him last night was also working well - again made him think - and reinforncing the sit command when he came in helped. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  12. I have my hands in front full of treats and as he gets to the point of no stopping I starting waving them in the air frantically in front of him But he's a boy - what can I say - he can't multitask. He's hit me once in a short recall and knocked me back a couple of steps. Thanks for the suggestions - I will start putting them into practice tonight at training
  13. Hi all, I am new to the forum and wanted advice from the performance people. I am probably the only person in history to complain that my recall is TOO fast. My Boxer boy was ok during CCD because the recalls were shorter but now in Novice he is getting up too much steam and is going too fast to stop and generally runs right past and then comes back. It's not that he's running away or just finishing himself, it's that he is going so fast that by the time he thinks about coming in to stop in front he's going too fast to stop. You can see him thinking "DAMN - can't stop - be back in a minute " as he looks at me as he is going flying past. I use food rewards, but he is FAST. I have tried sitting on a chair and that makes him think and comes in straight but can't take a chair into the ring with me. I am going to try walking towards him to change the distance to make him slow down some but our next trial is in a week and half and I wondered if anyone had any other ideas that I could try. I am already training him to free drop from anywhere but his drop on recall is going to be a problem because he takes so long to pull up. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks. Shirley & Raferty
