  1. Jane Harper from Dogs on Track. Sorry I don't have her number at hand, but google the company name.
  2. Awww, Huga that's so lovely that Sid has given Lola her spark back. I'm sure Sid and her and the boys will be the best of friends... frenchies generally love being dressed up, so you might have to sew him some costumes! Can't wait to meet the little munchkin.
  3. I actually think the responses you have received have been pretty tame compared to what normally happens to threads like this. Most people have responded with the suggestion you return to your breeder for advice / to mentor you. Others have suggested you find out if your boy is worth breeding... since you mentioned he was a pet, people would think this means you don't show and he should be assessed by experience breeders / judges. The other main opinion was that you health test before breeding. Didn't really see where the high horse came out... they all seemed like sensible suggestions to me. Most of the negative comments were aimed towards a pet being main registered and that's more a comment on the breeder than the owner.
  4. I would like to breed someday in the future, but I'd like to start out with a male to show first. I feel that I can be a good breeder and would be able to offer something to the breed. The way I look at it, there might be lots of more experienced breeders than me, but there needs to be new breeders to carry on when established breeders step back. This will all depend on whether I feel I have the time to dedicate to it, but breeding is where my interest lies professionally (livestock) so I wouldn't be surprised if that drives me to make dog breeding a hobby.
  5. Call your vet and ask or ring the poisons hotline.
  6. thats what i was thinking and thanks for the site......i dont know what to do, i dont want to take him over there and them him suffer. They are still a braccy breed and have the same concerns regarding heat stress. It's all a matter of being sensible... you don't exercise during the heat of the day (meaning early morning or evening walks) and you make sure the dog has ways to keep itself cool. Is your dog a good clear breather or does it struggle with heat stress in Tassie??? I've seen BB's in Brissie, so it's not like they can't live here. Maybe send Stonebridge a PM or post in the Breed Subforum in the BB thread and see what the owners there say.
  7. I've got 2 french bulldogs and they cope fine in the Brissie summer. They have access to lots of water, shade and a clam shell pool (which is in the shade). During the day when we are at work or out they are outside and cope fine. Some people will tell you that they need to be in the air-con, but the most we've ever done is leave a pedestal fan on blowing over their outside bed on really hot days. Can't help on the accommodation search.
  8. I've used Jane Harper before and had great success. Contact number is 07 5496 4121. ETA: website Dogs on Track
  9. I don't use them. I've heard stories about people leaving their dogs with food and having most of the food given back when they pick the dog up... that wouldn't work for me as Griffin is on k/d and I wouldn't risk him not being fed correctly. Griffin is also DA so I won't risk them putting him in a group play even if I'd said no. My last dog was kenneled once and she returned home fine. The industry is probably much like dog breeders... broad spectrum from places that go beyond what is required to the places that do the absolute minimum or less.
  10. Yay for Serena!!!! Great news and a fantastic achievement.
  11. Have a great time Dolers! I'm still jealous I'm missing out, but OH wouldn't handle a whole weekend on his own with Noah.
  12. I have a DA french bulldog... try getting people to stay away from him with their dogs... apparently all small dogs are friendly He doesn't like dogs bigger than himself (so practically all dogs) and since he's 11 and quite gummy in any fight he will come off second best. We don't take him out much because it's so hard with random off-lead dogs. I'm someone that loudly tells people to get away. Corvus, I'm sorry but being lazy isn't a fair excuse. I know people are, but people shouldn't work on the assumption that all dogs are friendly, they should do the opposite and always ask / check about introductions between dogs. I don't enjoy walks with Griffin because I'm always looking for other dogs and this just makes him worse.
  13. Have a great time Dolers! I'm a bit bummed about missing this one, it's the motivation I need to get back into training Calli, but it's not possible with Noah. For first timers, these workshops rock and you will learn heaps... Steve's a legend. Don't anyone tell the mad frenchie she's missing out
  14. Website rocks Huga! I'm enjoying your 365 so far.
  15. Who could forget you and Callie?? Are you coming to the workshop next month? Not this time, I have nothing to show off apart from a 5 month old bubba :D I have a new video camera, so I'd better get to it. I'll have to start from square one.
  16. Yay go the Frenchie She's awesome. I suck.
  17. I have a simple wish, to get stuck into callista's TID. It's a new years resolution and I'm determined to prove a frenchie's can do obedience work. Hopefully Steve hasn't forgotten who I am.
  18. We're safe and shouldn't be in the path of the flood.
  19. Way to take what sway said out of context.
  20. ANKC wont get an ad campaign going. Breeders have been begging them for years. It's up to us to direct Joe Blow towards good breeders. Some of them will turn around and 'save' a puppy from a pet shop window but some of them will turn to a good breeder if you get in their ear enough. What about the MDBA then? If they could get up a big campaign to try and educate the public, perhaps then there wouldn't be a need for a separate registry as people would know how to sort the wheat from the chaff from the ANKC breeders? In the 'how to promote purebred dogs' thread we are throwing around ideas for this type of stuff. How to get purebreds out there in a positive light and to engage the public beyond the normal dog show.
  21. that's it, I'd be happy to wait 1-2 years if I had made contact with a couple of breeders and needed to wait until they had a litter. I would struggle to wait any length of time for a breed if I couldn't get any breeders to talk to me.
  22. And as the owner of a DA dog these are the kind of dogs I end up yelling at and the reason why my frenchie doesn't get walked. I'm sick of having owners (if they're actually with the dog) telling me their dogs friendly... well just because my dog is small doesn't mean he is friendly.
  23. So breeders need to pay for the animal to be desexed? Guess puppy and kitten prices in ACT will go up to cover this cost? How will they monitor if someone buys a puppy from outside of the ACT and brings in in undesexed?
  24. I had to choose sometimes... one dog has CRF and isn't allowed bones, so the other doesn't get them as often as I'd like.
  25. My vet charges around $90 to tt. We've done it for the last 2yrs and are yet to need to revac either dog. For that price they also get their annual health check up. She doesn't make much on the tt, so maybe your vet charges extra to get some profit from the tt.
