What Do You Use To Organise Your Dog Stuff?
Panxan replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
My show leads I keep in change bags that you can get from the bank (mostly to keep them clean and untangled) Walking collars and leads are hung up. Each of my dogs has a folder which contains their vet records and papers and any show awards etc and their health testing papers. Grooming supplies are in a drawer food fills the freezer and food fills the pantry and food fills the fridge.... -
I was pretty much normal when my bitch had pups. Once they got old enough to be handled I just asked people to sanitise their hands. My understanding of immunity is that the pups inherit through the mothers milk. Therefore a healthy bitch fed on good quality food and kept healthy should pass on good immunity to her pups. My other dogs still get exercised or will go to a show if I have entered one but then the only dog that interacts with the pups for the first month minimum is the dam. The others can look if she isn't bothered but they don't have physical access to the pups. I also have 2 school aged children so if I was so worried about the pups catching anything I probably wouldn't breed while my kids were younger cause they go all over the place!

Yeah I probably think in that way because my boy is a complete pain to mate. Way to over eager and excitable, and the second you try to "help" him he stops lol. And all the people I know in the breed have plenty of their own studs so I probably won't ever have to worry about it, well for a long time anyway.

The only outside stud I have used was agreed to pay when the first puppy sold. When the pups were born the stud owner asked if we could change to a puppy instead of payment which I was fine with. If I ever let my dog out for stud I would expect payment between pups birth and selling the first pup. I wouldn't feel right taking a stud fee with no pups resulting unless I was positive my boy wasn't the cause for no pups. In saying that I don't think I would allow my dog to be used with the same bitch as I would expect the same result so a waste of time but a different bitch owned by the same people would be fine.

Poor Emma Is At The Emergency Vet

Wow! Scarey for you and her I bet. Best wishes she continues on the road to recovery and is back home with you soon. -
I have been thinking hard about the price of puppies lately. I am hoping to have a litter this year as my bitch is getting older and I really want to keep one or two pups from her to continue showing with. I am wondering if I will charge more than one price. They are not a hugely popular breed and are difficult to sell so I would happily lower the price for the right home. In saying that if a breeder wanted to buy one I would charge what is the norm for a show puppy. I feel this way partly because I was never given pups at a reduced price for show/breeding and partly because I would like to get enough for the pups to continue paying for health tests. I don't really worry about what I have spent to get a litter but I would be thinking of testing for the pup/s I would be keeping and any other dogs requiring testing. Also considering looking into expanding my lines etc. When I sell puppies I think of the future not what I have paid in the past. If I thought about what I paid in the past I would probably just cry lol!

I would love to say Chinese Crested but in my experience they have a fair bit of energy (used to call my first Crested ADHD dog lol) I would have to vote CKCS they just have the most gentle loving natures. Not sure about shedding though. Edited for shocking spelling lol

This is for my Chinese Cresteds. Didn't know that about GT they just seem to be the one I hear about most. Thanks I will check those NZ places. I think there is no reason why we can't do our own genetic tests right here in New Zealand! Thanks for the help.

I have been having a nosey online to find places to get relevent DNA tests done on my dogs. I checked Genetic Technologies but they don't appear to do all the testing I need. I would be looking at PRCD-PRA, profiling and PLL. I am struggling to find a test for PLL. Can anyone recommend a lab? I am in New ZEaland but assume I will have to have any samples sent to Aussie. Thanks!

I think it's nice to add a blanket that they have used. I think it must be nice for a pup to have a blanket with familiar smells in a new place full of new smells.

Your thread brings back sad memories of when my girl lost her entire second litter within 24 hours of being born. My girl is very maternal and adopted a stuffed toy and treated it as her baby. It took her a few weeks but she slowly returned to the girl she was. Mentally nothing I did helped with my girl so just patience. Hope your girl comes right soon.

This where the issue lies. I tell my puppy buyers never to take the pup anywhere dogs that have not been vaccinated might be ie the park, until they have had the third vaccinations. That was included in the info my friend gives to puppy buyers. It did not come out that the puppy buyers sister had a pup die 6 months ago until after this pup died. Not nice to know it could have been prevented but nice for my friend to know she hasn't done anything wrong in regards to her dogs and the puppies she breeds.

This was what the vets were talking about with the colostrum. Because this puppies dam is a very good feeder the puppies probably would have had very good immunity at the 8 week vaccine. Included in the info my friend gives to puppy buyers is to not take puppy out until at least 7 days after the second vaccination and info on disease including parvo. The vets feel the first vaccine was ineffective due to pup still having immunity from the dam.

My friend went to see the vets. They were trying to explain how colostrum helps immunity and because they have been the vets my friend uses for years trying to explain to the puppy buyer that it wasn't anything to do with the breeding. This puppy owner is just trying to find someone to blame unfortunately. The vet feels the puppy had parvo for 4 days or more before she brought it in to the vets and they recommended PTS as too far gone but owner asked for them to do anything to save it. Appears the owner is now not happy with a $1000.00 vet bill and wants anyone else to pay it. She had taken the puppy to her sisters house where a puppy died of parvo 6 months ago. Puppy died 2 weeks after 2nd vaccination. The vets are just as upset as my friend as a lot of her puppies go on to remain clients of the vets and to see all these healthy happy puppies is hard to see how this one has had such a sad outcome. Worst part is the puppys owner is straight away looking for a new puppy. She has been told how long parvo can survive but she is still wanting to risk another puppies life.

Thanks for all the info. It turns out the person who bought the puppy has an adult dog that has never had vaccinations and had a puppy visiting that had only had one vaccination. Both of those have tested negative for parvo. I will pass on this info to my friend and she can work with the vets to make sure her adults have normal immune systems.
