Looking For A Really Caring And Thorough Vet In Sa
Tosca replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Excellent Vet Clinic have been taking my dogs there for twenty years now and Dr Cole is a legend, Bless him. He is a true animal lover. All staff at the Clinic are great. -
Is the shopping centre in between South Road and Marion Road on Daws road Tosca? Next to a BP service station? I have a sneaky suspicion i walk past it when i take B for his morning walk but just have never really taken proper notice of what's in there. :p Another one i will definitely check out  That's the one. What a small world I'll have to look out for you and B when I'm on a walk with my lot.

Hi Melbomb, Sounds like you live down my way. If you regularly go to Castle Plaza you might want to check out the butcher I go to. Its called Fleurieu Fresh located at California Court Shopping Centre on Daws Rd. I get my meat from them and buy bags of meat for my dogs from them cheap and fresh. Oh yes and on Saturdays they mark the prices down :p

Glad to hear that the surgery went well. I have sent you a PM.

Just had a look at the receipt from the Vet and what Daniel was given is called a Proheart SR-12 Injection don't know the difference between that one and the Proheart 6 or if there is any but maybe its worth while looking into. There could be some changes that have been made to the product.

I have been going to the same Vet for twenty years now. I am confident that if there were any serious side effects I would have been made aware of it at the start. They are very well known and respected in the field and have clients coming from all over Adelaide. I certainly trust their opinion. I was made aware that the heartworm injection is more expensive than your monthly prohart or heartgard chewables. I decided that I would try the yearly injection as it made much more sense to have it done on a yearly basis.
-
My dogs have it done at the same time they have their annual booster. They have had it done two years in a row now. Daniel just had the heartworm injection on Saturday with his annual Vaccination. My two Afghans had it last year as well and there have been no side effects.

Hi zoepuppy, My Afghan Zarah dislocated her hip in February this year. Zarah had surgery to her dislocated hip joint, while the cartilage was damaged it appeared salvagable so the hip was relocated and stabilised with a toggle pin. She was in hobbles to prevent her back legs separating. As she could bear weight on her leg she was not allowed excessive activity. She needed to have enforced rest for the next 6 weeks following surgery and be confined to a crate or small room. Only 5 minutes slow walks on a leash were allowed for toiletting purposes. Walking up and down stairs, jumping up or any uncontrolled activity needed was to be avoided. It was imperative she wouldn't slip. All went well and after 6 weeks she was allowed 15 to 20 minutes leashed walks twice a daily. She was back to her normal activity by 16 weeks. Zarah was also under medication, tablets daily and a course of Cartrophen-Vet injections once a week for five weeks. Overall the operation plus medical expenses cost me $3.500 but Zarah has recovered fully and is back to her normal self, running and playing with her doggy friends. If you saw her now you would never have thought she had such a major operation earlier in the year. Zarah's full story can be found on the Afghan thread. I hope I have given you some useful information I strongly recommend you get the opinion of a good specialist Your dog is young so age is very much in her favour, she is also fit and not overweight. My specialist is in Adelaide and if you need more information or just want to talk it over please don't hesitate to PM me. I hope everything works out for you and your GSD best of luck.

In the past I fed my Great Danes and my Saint Bernard Eukanuba and Pro Plan. I was happy with it and my dogs were fine. Since getting my two Afghans I started feeding Hills Science Diet which is what I was told to feed and Horace my male Afghan developed skin problems so I switched to EVO a natural no grain dry food. His coat improved and so has that of my female Afghan. The reason I have decided to try Orijen is that it is very similar to EVO high Protein Low Carb and no grain, all natural and made in the USA to high standards. Most of all I don't have to buy it from PP.
-
Hi Tosca, I emailed Orijen last week to find a supplier in SA They forwarded my email to the Australian distributor who promptly got in touch with me. Unfortunately there is no one in SA stocking it at the moment. However he has been really good to deal with and I am able to place an order direct with him. So I would suggest doing the same. Also if a few of us do it they may look to getting it into SA sooner. Thanks piper will do. Hope we will be getting it soon in SA.

Sounds like Orijen is a great dry food. I'd like to try it out myself. Does anybody know if there is a supplier in Adelaide?

I know you understand qashmir but thinking back to it now I must have come across as a very demanding owner. -
Groomers! Are You Sick Of Clueless Clients
Tosca replied to qashmir's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Personally, i hate it. I then write a note for them asking not to write me anymore notes. I don't need a note to remind me to do his nails and to instruct me to leave him long coz it's winter now. I tell them if they want the haircut to meet specific requirements then go somewhere where they let you stay with the dog so they can oversee every snip. Sorry, i'm really touchy about this. I basically think it inferr i'm an idiot. The last groomer I took my dog to must totally hate me as I made sure he followed the instructions given to me adding ' Please I would like you to follow these instructions and for her to look like this'. I had photos to show him as well. -
