  1. No she is in a terrible state. I could here her yelping in the back ground on the phone. Not sure what her symptoms are but the owner said it doesn't sound good. I'm hoping this vet will be able to do something quick!
  2. Yeh I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's not 1080. It's not used on the organic property where the dog was but she was seen with a bone? Not sure the bone is relevent but 1080 is used throughout the hills here and any other animal could have dropped it somewhere. She has been to 1 vet and now going to another emergency vet....... been numerous hours since possible ingestion.
  3. Hi all, Just had some terrible news of a friends dog being rushed to a vet with possible 1080 (fox bait) poisoning. Anyone have any good outcomes?
  4. Another question I have had over the years related to dual Sires. If you have a breed that has genetic colours ressessive and dominant and you know that your boys can only produce 1 colour or another with the bitch in question. ie if you had 2 Sires who where known (from prevcious litters and pedigrees) to their colour is DNA testing still enforced? Never would intentionally do it but curiousity keeps asking??? Thanks.
  5. I knew this would make an interesting topic. I think in dogs it is especially important because of the genetics and especially the health problems that can arise or the "unknown" in what you are getting. Horses is something I wasn't thinking about but true.
  6. I just was thinking today about the fact that as a purebred breeder I encourage everyone to buy from a registered breeder with health checks and future support etc etc..... What about other pets though. Should we also be buying pedigree cats, show stock chickens, health tested birds? I'd love to hear peoples thoughts. I have pedigree dogs but the old black and white moggie doesn't have health tested parents who ever they were ...... didn't think twice when I got him as a free kitten 11 years ago.
  7. Oh that is soooo sad. I have know someone who works with the luggage handlers and he often sees dogs left on the tarmatt for long periods of time in crates in the direct sun or raining in the winter. He often tries and cover them where possible. He has also seen a few dead ones over the years. Pups and older dogs after their flights. They are often shoved in amongst the luggage and they do not get heating or cooling like the passengers. On another note I have successfully sent and recieved a number of healthy pups over the years.

  9. I got a couple of quotes about 12 months for a 5kg border collie puppy from NZ to Adelaide. Quotes where ranging from $950 to $1450. It's best just to get some quotes from the well known dog transporters. Only a few do NZ I found.
  10. Yes one of my bitches recently tied with my male dog on day 4! I was very cross at myself for trusting them on our daily run but thankfully no puppies so it must of been just that little bit early. I wouldn't trust them at all!
  11. Yes I too enjoy the whole breeding experience from whelping (heart breaks have been minimal thankfully), raising puppies, finding the very best homes I can for them and most of getting to know the new owners and enjoying the stories of their much beloved pups doing them proud at puppy school, obedience, agility and most of family pets. I have lots of my pup owners as facebook friends so I can have lots of regular photo updates!!
  12. Sounds great..... count me in please! April is good too!!
  13. I normally had my litters vaccinated with a C3 at 6 weeks and then the new owners normally got a C5 at 10 and 14 weeks but my vet offered me the new C5 that can be given to the 6 week old pup meaning the new owners only need to get the one booster at 10 weeks (then annually) and can therefore get into the socialization much quicker. My vet does the 3 yearly C3 but it doesn't cover kennel cough so it depends on who you are if that is suitable or not. Occasionally my previous litters showed signs such as less activity on the day after vaccinations but the lastest litter of 7 didn't show any signs with their C5 jabs.
  14. Thanks guys. He will be desexed soon ..... he is in a home with 4 kids and picks out the youngest one to hump. I have suggested that they get this child to do some commands with him and growl in a scary voice if possible instead of the excited high pitched voice he would normally use which would only excite him more. We'll see how that goes.
  15. How does one suggest to stop a 4 month old puppy from humping the youngest kid (6) and other similar aged puppies? I know it's a dominance behaviour but some suggestions of what to would be great. He is a very smart and obedient little pup with a great list of commands he can already do and has attended puppy school. One of my stud dogs used to do it at puppy school but he never tried it on my kids or anyone else and it wasn't something I told him off about for obvious reasons.
  16. My vet adviced 10% chicken mince to the dry. I have 8 dogs and feed them supercoat. They go through 1 bag in about 10-12 days. ($44 for 18kgs) I stir through about 1.2 kilos of chicken mince (the carcass type) to about 2/3 a normal 10 litre bucket and dish out that into seperate bowls. Some that are a bit younger I give more too or if they are in whelp or feeding and some of the older ones that are a bit heavy I give less. They are all in great condition and happy active dogs. I used to feed them Working Dog Cobber but found them putting on weight to easy. How often do you go through a Cobber bag?
  17. I use Supercoat chicken. I buy 2 bags at a time, about $42 a 18kg bag and that lasts me about 3 weeks. I also feed them raw chicken mince everyday with the supercoat and the get chicken necks and red meat bones a couple of times a week.
  18. I get all my litters done at 6 weeks. I think that's pretty standard unless you have a toy breed.
  19. Bugger... it does from my computer. Anyone else have trouble seeing it?
  20. Hi everyone..... I took a short clip of my borders having fun in our dam. Zena is the mad one doing belly flops! They use the sides of the dam like a race track! Great exercise for them!! You tube Clip
  21. Hi Harminee, a little bird told me you are the best at creating these signatures. I'd love one (well better than my attempt).... do you have an email address that I could send you some photos of my beloved border collies? I have 6 BC's...... is that too many? Thanks. Amy.
  22. Thanks Cathy... I've sent you an email with her details. amy.
  23. Hi all.... I'm looking for some help. I am a registered breeder of Border Collies. I have just purchased a gorgeous 3 year old BC bitch from another breeder who says he bought her as a pup and was told that she is clear of CL and CEA. He has no records of this and I am wondering without contacting her original breeders is there somewhere I can find out if her parents have been tested and is therefore clear by parentage? Thankyou all I look foward to replies.
